I am not embarassed to say I WAS one.
It is important for me to warn others not to get involved in any JW free home Bible study. To warn them of their hijacking of faith and family. Their shunning and abuse of power.
i am not.
everyone makes mistakes..

john 14:14, in most translations, says something to the effect of, "if you ask me anything in my name, i will do it.
" (my emphasis on "me") the kjv (and relative translations) and the nwt do not have "me" in it.
most of the translations that keep the word were based on the westcott and hort which has the greek "me", however the kjv doesn't because it was based on the textus receptus which does not have the greek "me".
Isn't the real hurdle to cross in the question of how the reader might perceive the meaning of either translation?
Of course, that's why we have the WT literature, it doesn't matter how WE read it, they will tell the reader what it means.

Sorry for the double post.

If being a christian means following Jesus, then it should free us from institutional religion. It would mean we are free from following a crowd or even one man. It would mean we are capable of reflection on the futility of reacting to our family and the strictures of a "faith" community.
Salvation may mean rising above these things. Even if we die we can "repent" of former behavior and live without the burden of guilt.
I wonder what Jesus might have been and might have taught. Really.
The problem with finding a "good" sermon in a church is that the preacher is in a church at all.
If we can't trust the bible (I can't), then preaching from it is perilous.
There were other ancient writings that reflect a different Jesus, Ravens. That Jesus would outrage church preachers.
"Tho' nature red in tooth and claw...." Even faithful Tennyson was troubled by the ruthlessness of creatures.
ok, i haven't introduced myself properly.
sorry for that, but i just never feel like i've got something really interesting to say.
so i rather respond on topics of other people.
Dear Bruja,
Your words strike such a cord in me. The need for living in the present and looking to the future is a real issue for me too. And your remarks about the need to deal with the feelings of the losses suffered from the years used up and the indoctrination that we are still scrubbing out of our minds.
I love that you are showing him how the JW experience can affect people --that's what the film was about, I guess. Even if he never can fully understand, it is great that he cares enough to watch it.
I, too, rely on others to help me in my life beyond my husband. Though he loves me dearly, he is not interested in anything relating to religion or especially the JWs.
So here I come, to the forum.
One of my sons once told me that he is tired of putting so much effort into life/people and getting so little in return. I am not sure how one measures these things.
It is good, I think, to take some pleasure in the giving so that one is able to receive a little at the same time.
Like watching that guy making those wonderful deep-fried breads (yum!) having fun that others can enjoy--simply, simply.
Take care, sugar cookie. We want to hear from your life in Spain as it goes along--well!

i am trying to put together the worst of 2013. the first quote that comes to mind is possibly your "favorite" too.
do you have any other disturbing quotes from the publications in the wt?.
elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.
CaRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is, bar none, the worst thing I've heard of the WBTS. If my old friends who are "in" the Org. sat through that study and are still believing this insane leadership.....then what is left of their brain?
I am so repulsed that I would LOVE to get a magazine with that study article.
Anyone?
i have been eyeing this site for some time (years) and finally joined.
i was born in the organization, and grew up not too far were c.t.
russell started it all.
Welcome, BBview.
i made a short marionette show for my adult family and accidentally set the curtain on fire!.
it was years since we had all our sons together, and with no money for presents--i did what i had done before i jumped on board with jw-screw-the-holidays thinking.
we made stuff up and had a good time.. and we did it again after some really rough years.. i don't know how else to get there but go to youtube.
Lois--Happy New Year! You, family & Cats have a beau-tiful year. I'm glad you came into our home.
Bruja--It was fun making it. I so wanted my children to break backwards in time to the moments we all just enjoyed one another. Enjoyed silliness and ridiculousness. No JW stuff.
A bit of seriousness mixed with laughter is "dark humor" --but it can make us light-hearted! (as long as we are not hurting others)
The odd noises in the background are the guineas clucking--
young and shunned xjw singer/songwriter and wife interview.. "blessed feathers:nomadic and loving it" is featured story on national public radio.

amazingly open about what happens if you don't follow the leader as a jw--yet without bitterness--this young man tells his story.

Amazingly open about what happens if you don't follow the Leader as a JW--yet without bitterness--this young man tells his story. Really warns public about the cultish behavior of the Organization.
