Altering reality where do you stand......
by fifi40 into fill you in and explain my post....... i was raised as a jw but left (not baptised) at 16. i started studying again at 24ish and was quickly baptised and got disfellowshipped aged about 32ish.
whilst i was active as a jw i socialised plenty, but it did not involve copious amounts of drink or drugs.
during my times out i have very very occasionally smoked a little dope and have been drunk more often but by no means frequently.

Unique 1 - I like a drink as well, that was not the point of this thread but do you have a cut off point when you know you have had enough?

BR25 - ok I think I get you. It is my opinion that all folk are at different stages in their lives, different levels of understanding and have different ways of handling things. I was raised as a JW for instance and in some ways miss the 'false comfort' that being part of that religion gave me. But I am not blind to its teachings anymore. I agree with you that some of what the JWs teach is not bad and if the paradise hope were real, or i believed it to be real I would go for it. But I have concluded it is not.
It is only by discussion and debate that we learn anything, so if someone seems opinionated to you whats the problem, by putting your view forward one of you might learn something or reconsider their way of reasoning.
Try to be patient, the world is a mixed bag of all sorts.

BR25 I dont really get your point can you be a bit clearer. Are you peed off that I am saying some people use drugs and alcohol as a means of escapism; that over abuse leads to problems, or that my lack of comfort with people doing this may stem from an upbringing which viewed these types of over indulgence as wrong?

Sad Emo thanks for your reply - I often wonder if my early life experience of my mum, has coloured my view of what for some is innocent over indulgence, but experience has shown me whilst nobody ever sets out to upset somebody else through excess drinking it often results in problems.
