  Harry Potter and the exasperated mum........help

  my ex is a jw (as previously mentioned) and is against our son going to see the new movie, despite admitting that he has witness friends who will happily go and see it........oh and he also has witness friends that would dob their brother into the elders for going to see it.. i have just had a bit of a heated debate about it with him (our son is 14, nearly 15) and i just wondered if any of you have good sound reasoning for what is a 'matter of conscience' for these brainwashedd poo brains!!!!!.

  help.........warlock can you just wave a magic wand or something............ a mother doing battle with the force...............a brain numbing, mind control force at that.

  seriously folks though any gems you have would be greatly appreciated.

  I would just take him.................but unfortunately Alex asks me to check it with his dad first................because he doesnt want to displease his dad (poo brain)..............

  The truth he wants to go..........but he knows his dad wouldnt go and he is in that horrible trap of not wanting to upset his dad.........aaaaggghhhh

  I did at least say to my ex (in a private conversation that our son was not privy to) when asked the question........'Would I rather Alex was raised as a JW or not'....that I would rather he was not...............and he also asked me if I thought he was (my ex) was brainwashed and I replied 'I think I was brainwashed for a long time so I think you must be too'

  He also went off topic and started on about the huge payouts the R.C. church are making to sex abuse victims and I said I think you want to check out what the JWs have done recently of a very similar ilk..........and are not mentioning to their congregations.

  This is the first time I have been so outspoken to him about my non belief and I think I got a lot off my chest.........hope I didnt go too far.....

  Employer Nasty business/need some help for a sweet girl

  my son's girlfriend as been a bartender for over 3 years for a major chain here in orlando....(universal studios).

  several nights ago at closing, some one came in and gave her a big tip.

  she turned in $2.50 cents less than she should have and turns out it was someone for the company.

  Ok I understand now................if I was her I would claim that it was 2am, I was knackered and miscalculated and that I did not understand what I was signing. I would say I felt harassed and intimidated into signing and as far as I was concerned I thought I was signing to say that I had made a miscalculation of $2.50.........and I would shout loud and hard about it..............maybe even throw in that I had PMT and whilst I hadnt felt well that day I had made the effort to go to work despite having not being 100% on the ball.........and then to be set up and made to sign something over $2.50 under duress........not that I support being dishonest but this does sound incredibly petty......

  I dont fully understand, over here tips are for the employee's anyway and can be individual to the person who has provided you with a service........what gives. Has she previously signed a work agreement to say that all tips go to the employer?

  A PUZZLING QUESTION...????...????...????

  the "sacred secret" of god that creation was yearing to glimpse for so long was jehovah's plan of salvation and righteous government rescue operation.. yet, pagans, heathens and various crackpot primitives all came up with the same plan long before jehovah's was "revealed".

  something smells bad about this!!.

  i find it puzzling.. child sacrifice to appease wrathful deities is a disgusting solution to crop failure.

  Just to clear matters up............I dont claim to be an atheist.............I sit firmly on the fence, having being taught all my life that there is a God, it is difficult to put that down completely..................but using my own reasoning I question the evidence of that God........I question the roots of religion.........and I observe how people become brainwashed and caught up in a whole load of pish that they never really checked out for themselves, adopting religious beliefs without checking the origin because it gives them hope........hope that they are not going to be nothing when they are dead.

  What I observe on this board is that there are a rare few who have a christian beliefs who attempt to ridicule and deride the atheist viewpoint...........and they do this with a superior, arrogant attitude.

  Now I am well aware that there are some real nice christians on this board who have great attitudes............Little Toe, Mouthy and I am sure there are loads more............and these are wonderful, interesting and intelligent people.

  But you smack of fundy to me............just in the way you come across. Now if that is not how you intend to be, then fine..........but you may want to think a little about the way you represent yourself ...........because the way I remember it is that Christians should be trying to win over non believers not put them off for life.

  So thats me down off my high horse.

  DOES FORGIVENESS MAKE ANY SENSE?

  what you reward you tend to get more of.. what you punish tends to atrophy.. the balance between a good act and a bad one consists of the consequences.. society has found many ways to treat bad behavior.

  the worst being imprisonment and execution (if not torture) for high crimes.. but, there is a core philosophy among altruists and christians of a certain stripe who advocate forgiveness.. so, we ask the question : does forgiveness make any sense?.

  when we do harm we cause an effect.. the effect injures others or their property.. to restore what is harmed a system of justice has developed to deal with administering the pressure toward restoration (when possible).. fines, community service, reparation for damages all constitute that restoration process.. insurance companies act as brokers in the case of "accidental" causes and effects and their remedy.. but, in the realm of religion the principle of forgiveness rears its ugly head!.

  You know what gets on my nerves about fundamentalists is that these victims of obsessive belief systems attempt to ram down the throats of non believers the fact that they are wrong with the same superior attitude that some of the Jehovahs Witnesses adopt..........we have the truth, we are better, nothing you have can ever be as good as this........do as you are told or you will surely die.

  The facts are that history does not hold religion or God in a favourable light. Add to this that you could spend a lifetime hoping that you stumble across the right religion/God to serve and you can understand why some choose not to trust or believe in either.

  So whilst you gently chuckle to yourself about atheists......think about this..........there are many good folk, who live peaceful lives, who are good neighbours and help others where necessary, who work hard and raise there kids with decent values, who dont steal, lie, cheat others, commit adultery or judge others and guess what.........THEY DONT BELIVE IN GOD...........so if assuming you are right and they are wrong do you really want to serve a God who is going to kill them all off, deny them entrance to heaven or whatever concept you have of life after death because they were not convinced he existed.

  For some of us our experience of religion, God and his followers has been enough for one lifetime.
