when the elders ask those questions again, ask THEM why they are asking. Then tell them those are personal matters, and you don't see how it's their business.

Elders finally took me to the back room...
by OneDayillBeFree inafter several months of leaving the meetings as soon as they ended or only staying for "the first meeting" then leaving the "second part", the elders finally cornered me at last night's meeting.. they said they were concerned about me and that being that i am a young brother in a recently divided congregation they saw so much potential in me to help out the congregation and become a ms.. i told them i was thankful for their thinking of me to help the congregation but that at the moment i could not due to my job.
then the began asking personal questions that got on my nerves.. they asked where i worked and how much i made.
they asked if i was going to college and what i was studying and for how long.

by Braehead innice to meet you all.
long time lurker, but now i can get my twopenneth in.. a brief history.. born into the religion, but it never really took hold - thankful for an easily bored mind and strong, worldly grandparents.. never very interested - dragged from meeting to field service.

I agree with undercover -- if you aren't interested in becoming a JW, just say so and keep repeating it until she runs out of steam. Do it on the phone, rather than in your living room.
If you really want to talk with her about things you've learned, think about why you want to do that. She will have canned answers for everything, and I doubt you can get her to see what you see so clearly.

"Strong hope enables us to resist apostates and their gangrenous 'empty speeches.'"
by cedars inthose obviously aren't my words, they are from the latest study edition of the watchtower (april 15th, 2013) page 11.. .
it's nice to know that, not only are we "mentally diseased" - we are also now "gangrenous.
" since the society seems to enjoy using medical terms to insult us, are there any bets what the next published insult will be?

Oh pooh, who cares if the wtbts calls us names? We're escapees from their spiritual concentration camp! Woohoo!
I do sometimes feel a little bit sorry for old friends from my congregation who lost a friend -- me -- because they blindly accept the wtbts bullshit about apostates. I wonder sometimes if they felt sad for a little while after I left the org? I don't think the friendship was fake, just that the fear of the org. was stronger than any other emotional pull. Or maybe they just felt self-righteous that they are still believers and I am "diseased"?

Polarity, Reiki and their ilk
by Hortensia ini owned a massage school, taught massage for over 20 years, practiced massage for nearly 30 years.
massage/bodywork -- some folks who do bodywork don't like the word massage but i don't care.
bodywork sounds like car repair to me.

yes, I agree. Quality time and TLC are really beneficial. Homeopathy is an example of an idea that has not been able to stand up to tests.

hot as hell
by Hortensia in52 degrees celsius is 125.6 degrees fahrenheit.
that's hot no matter how you measure it.. where i used to live in the desert we had about two weeks every year with temps over 120 degrees f. i once experienced walking in 128 degree weather.
not good for humans at all.. i hope the weather cools soon -- that is hot enough to keep wild fires burning for a long time, hot enough to kill people.

But it's a dry heat.
Yes, that's what people always said about the heat in the Palm Springs area. Somehow it doesn't make much of a difference when things get that hot.
