People who actually practice detachment seem to be really annoying to those who don't.

They are BS artists from way back, and you all are surprised? It is interesting to see how blatant they are nowadays about their cultish behavior. And sneering at "sisters" is pretty typical. Assholes. Any JW who just sat and thought for a while could start to see how bad the religion is, but then, they aren't allowed to just sit and think, are they?

Street life in China
by fulltimestudent inas china moves forward to greater prosperity, not all can keep up.
for many, life continues not too differently from the past.. this video focusses on street life ... you can still find many old streets like this, where life moves in a traditional pattern.
the bulldozers will come one day, and it will be replaced with a steel and glass tower, and the old man's opinion of this is interesting.

What I remember about tai chi was that no one wore special clothing and there was no leader. People would just stop and join in. They didn't care if strangers joined in - several of our group got up early every morning to go do tai chi with the neighborhood folks. We also eschewed the hotel breakfast (incredibly awful) and went out to eat street food with the neighbors. We had some good street food, and it was fun to interact with the folks, using sign language mostly. They laughed at us a lot, but were also really interested in where we came from and why we were there.
I remember eating mutton kabobs in the muslim neighborhood where we were training in Beijing, cooking them ourselves over the little grill. And some wonderful bread cooked on the spot, stuffed with onions. And a sort of pancake or crepe with an egg cooked on it and something that tasted like hoisin sauce. It was fun to watch the vendor pour out the batter, spread it quickly into an incredibly thin pancake, flip it, crack an egg and cook the egg on the crepe all in less than a minute. There were neighborhood soup vendors -- we went to a local market and bought our own metal bowls and plastic spoons for the soup. Much more fun than eating so-called western food at the hotel.

I'm sorry you had such a tough life as a kid. I've been there, I remember. I'm so glad you're going to school now. Keep going, even if it's difficult. It will definitely be worth the effort. The difference between now and your childhood is that now you have much more power to make your life what you want it to be.
Keep in touch.

Thanks for sharing -- I enjoyed that video. I enjoyed walking around Shanghai and Beijing back in the early 90s, when I took several trips there, looking at the street vendors like the barbers, the guy who makes popcorn, the yogurt sales people and the little food stalls. It looked as though people lived outside during the day, lots of activity, lots of discussion and lots of people to see. On our way to class in the morning we would see people exercising all over the place, walking their birds, even ballroom dancing out in the park at 7 a.m. It looked really pleasant and friendly.

Annual Meeting Instructions to MS / Elders
by jw07 inhave any elders or ministerial servants here recieved any specific instructions regarding the annual meeting?
as an ms all i have been told to do is to arrive early to "await further instruction due to the sensitive nature of my assignment".
ironically all i can imagine after hearing that a few times is dispensing cyanide laced kool aid to attendees.

jesus, are you folks still jehovah's witnesses? Who gives a rat's ass what the wtbts is up to now? They do these things to keep the members on tenterhooks, off balance and scared. It's a manipulative snorefest. Whatever it is, the word will get out eventually and it will be completely hohum.

Keep a low profile, don't rush your mother with too much info. In the meantime, make a plan. Home is probably the best place to be until you graduate from high school. In the meantime, consider how you are going to make it as an adult. Learn a skill that brings in money, plan on college if at all possible. Build a network of "worldly" friends you can trust, get a part-time job and start saving money. If you keep focused on your future and work on your plans, the time will whiz by and you'll be on your own and out in the world with a good foundation. In fact, life is so interesting, the only time you'll really be bored is at the KH. Good luck! Keep in touch.

Talk out loud in public places...new preaching method? And go bags..
by snare&racket ini have been told of two things i had not heard of before.. one is a new preaching method, going to public places in a group e.g.
a cafe, and then talking of the topic quite loudly, for example maybe studying a watchtower or a chapter in a publication.
the idea being that people listen in and enquire etc etc.

"we're the rulers, not the annointed." "do what we say, no matter how crazy it may seem." "Oh, by the way, get your Great Tribulation(tm) bags ready so you can escape when we tell you to." Sounds crazy to me.
