  Doctors Lawyers

  in all my years in dubland i was just wondering ; how many here had doctors or lawyers in your congs?

  in the 20 years of my wts days i dont' remember any.

  I was raised as a JW and left when I was twenty. I do not ever recall anyone who had a doctorate level degree in any of the professions. The more knowledge you have the more you tend to scrutinize and ask questions. For the JW's that is usually the beggining of the end. You either get removed for asking very pointed questions or see the hyprocrisy and just leave.

  IMHO that is the real reason they discouraged a college education for so long. I am surprised to have learned that they once again reversed that. It does not seem to be in thier best interests.

  The WTS can not stand up to even a very simple cross examination which could explain so very few attorneys being JW's.

  DOES ANYONE STILL NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS???

  just wondering if anyone still does not celebrate xmas since leaving jws.....or like me do you think"to hell with it", and join in the festivities.

  if you do celebrate it, do you still have pangs of guilt for celebrating this "pagan" festival???.

  I don't because it is an expensive pain in the ass. I means nothing to me and I see it as just another way for retailers to empty my wallet. My wife's family pretty much views it this way also. So we still get together and enjoy the time off since they are now my adopted family.

  I refuse to be a WalMart puppet that gives them money when they jerk on my string.

  What do you do in your free time?

  just want to get some ideas.

  i haven't had much of a free time in last two years particularly last year or so, well till last week anyway.

  recently, i've tried taking latin dancing lessons but managed to get only to first session (well i'll go again this week but have already skipped two) this morning i've visited local sport center and tomorrow night i'm restarting my old flame as it were :) martial arts.. why am i saying that?

  I make custom knives and ancient replicas along with blacksmithing. I have a shop with lots of toys and enjoy machining and woodworking. What I enjoy the most is raising my daughter and seeing her living a very normal happy life. Mine was destroyed by the JW's/parents and it is very therapuetic for me to be able see my daughter enjoy going to school, birthdays, christmas etc. She will never have to knock on a single door or be made fun of at school because of being in a twisted, mind controlling cult.

  when you will have been an exjw for as long as you were a jw?.

  i was raised in the jws from before the age of 10, and stopped going to the kh at the age of 31. i was involved with the jws for a total of 23 years.

  i will be 54 years old by the time i have spent more of my life as an exjw than i did as a jw..

  i couldn't find if this was a previous topic, so i apologize in advance if it has been posted.. i am 28 years old, i have been df'd for 7-8 of those.

  my parents were converted when i was 2 years old by the whole family on my mother's side.

  however, about 5-10 years into it, all of that side of the family were df'd or da'd because they wanted to have sex with multiple people or smoke, drink, gamble, cuss, or whatever else they wanted.

  Maybe you should turn them in to the "authorities". That is very wierd and I have not heard of it before but I am not surprised. I think you are correct in that they wanted a little something to add to thier spank bank.

  Burning Incense might be a Sin

  yes - pretty soon i'm sure they'll be telling you how to trim your toenails.

  i'm surprised that they still allow dancing at weddings actually, since we know that dancing was so paganistic and led to wild, animalistic sex.

  Have they defined just what qualifies as incense? What if you only heat it but not actually burn it? What if something smells good and does not have to burnt or heated? Is it still OK to ferment a mixture of flour, water and yeast and then add heat to it because it smells really good? (tastes good to! double sin!!!)

  I roast my own coffee and enjoy the smell because it brings back memories. Am I now under demonic influence?

  How do you stop acting like a psycopath ?

  i find myself just going off way to easy recently, and i find that i'm going into my shell a lot.

  i was just wondering how you guys have dealt with it if you have ?

  I had to leave the JW's to keep from becomming one. Give yourself some time to adjust and use every moment to relish your new found mental freedom. Create your day now that it is no longer being consumed by meetings, door banging, book study etc,etc.

  Getting involved in a social type hobby or passtime and you will have an mental outlet and a chance to meet non JW's and strike up many friendships. Real honest friendships that are not conditional and plastic. All of my friends now came from after I was twenty when I left. I found out the "friends" I had since I was a kid really wern't friends at all. That realization took several years to sink in with me completely. I am still grappling with it and probably always will.

  It only gets better from here! The best thing I ever did for my mental and emotional wellbeing is to GET THE HELL OUT!! I have no regrets or remorse for doing so. I will never forget my first birthday party at the age of 21!!!

  the blood issue

  my very inactive hypocrit jw husband wouldnt sign a release form for my 11 year old to play basketball at school without adding "no blood products!

  " next to permission to treat injuries...jeeeeeezuzzz.

  i told him he better go read what his own religion teaches nowadays because so many changes have been made to what is allowed and what isnt these days.

  My JW parents really wanted to be my daughter's god parents. I took great delight in telling them that since they value the sanctity of blood over the sanctity of LIFE it was not going to happen. That was a very tough pill for them to choke down since they just assumed they would be the first choice. Some times you can trigger some deep questioning thought in JW 's by throwing some of thier dogma back into thier faces. A grandparents adoration for thier grandkids can be used to cut through the BS at times.

  This saddened my mom so bad that I really think she is still doing some soul searching. All the publications from the WTS may not be enough to stop the emotional pain our decision triggered.

  Tough love is not as much fun when you are receiving it vs always dishing it out.
