Yes!!! Turn them into health clubs instead and we would all be better off.

Back when I was a JW I saw many people DF'd because of smoking. It was probably the second most common reason aside from fornication and adultrey. I can't tell you how many brothers and sisters I knew in my Cong. that were extremely overweight and had chronic health problems because of it.
As a former EMT I spent alot of time going on calls to nursing homes and retirement centers. Quite often I would see people in their late seventies and even eighties outside grabbing a smoke. Granted they were not exactly pictures of health but they were still alive. However what you would rarely see would be people in that age group that were obese. They just didn't live that long.
I have asked many JW's, two of them elders, how smoking can be considered a defilement of the flesh but not obesity. Both are very dangerous but it appeared to me that obesity tends to kill you much sooner on average then smoking. I never got a decent, clear, logical or even common sense answer from them. Instead I would be asked if I was questioning the organization. It only took a few times being asked if I was questioning the organization vs having my question aswered to realize that I was hitting a delicate nerve.
I have heard that more recentley, long after I had left them, that it was being addressed but I am not seeing any changes in the average weight of JW's. They come into the clinic I lease space from almost every day. The ones that were fat then are still fat now, at least the ones that are still alive I might add.
I would be curious to hear from anyone in the healthcare profession that has made this same analogy and is every bit confused as I was.

Thanks for the recording!!
If it was not for thier secret nazi intimidations and shunning there would be no organization, period. Why would anyone stay in for any length of time without the "fear factor"?

Did you ever drink at the hall?
by kid-A inor show up half-sloshed???
or even a really bad hang-over??
lol..... at the pique of my "rebellious" phase when i was about 16-18, i often smuggled in a small mickey of drambuie or baileys then snuck off into the library for .

I never drank or was hung at any meetings but I did dip snuff. The last four years of being JW I routinely gave talks, ran the mics/amps etc with dip of chew in. I think that is the only thing that allowed me to sit through the hours of self righteous drivel and not lose my mind. Someday I will drop this little nugget of info on my JW mom just for the entertainment value. Aside from going pale I do not know what the rest of her reaction will be.

The best decision of my life
by YoursChelbie inwas leaving the watchtower society the best decision of your life?
the benefits have been so great, my peace of mind has been great--better than i thought i would feel on the "other side.
" after deprogramming my mind from the cult mindset everything seems clearer, brighter.

I should say that marrying my wife was the best decision but that would not have happened if I had not left the JW's. She was not one and I would have never met her if I had stayed with them.
So with the above caveat I can say it was hands down the best decision I have made to date!!!!! I never once regretted it. At first I missed my friends but you quickly find out what sort of friends they were. The JW's make it even easier to not come back by snubbing you. How that leaves the door open to come back I can not fiqure out. It seems to work to the advantage of the ex JW's. Go fiqure!

A Moment Of Reflection?....
by Justice-One init has now been almost three months since i completely cut off my association with "the brothers," and told my wife that i did not want to be there when the "kool-aid" came out.
(remember i had been in full fade mode for over ten years.
) at first i got the cold shoulder from the wife for about a month, then things slowly returned to normal.

IMHO I think that is the biggest reason they do not want you to asociate with non JW's. Because you will see alot of peple that are truly happy and not having thier lives dictated by a fear based religion.
If all ex JW's were depressed miserable people don't you think they would want that to be noticed by being around them? They would encourage it.

Don't forget the people like me that greatly exagerated my field service hours so I would not have to deal with thier "encouragement" AKA harrasment. From an accounting standpoint those numbers are so subjective because the WTS can not use any checks and balances to verify that what is reported is anything close to accurate. They rely completely on honest reporting practices and we know just how honest some of them are. Myself included at that time.
I was not the only one doing this either.

Burning Incense might be a Sin
by sammielee24 inthe wt website now has an article on burning incense.
yes - pretty soon i'm sure they'll be telling you how to trim your toenails.
i'm surprised that they still allow dancing at weddings actually, since we know that dancing was so paganistic and led to wild, animalistic sex.

Given that candles are a centerpiece of wiccan ceremonies that should really ruffle the JW feathers.
Sometimes you must use absurities to illustrate absurities.

JW's should not eat cake either since it is used for birthday parties. They also probably should not go into buildings that are for the sole purpose of worship since the catholics and all other "false" religion does so. No more pumpkin pie either, they use pumkins for jack-o-lanterns.
Remember you must stay pure!!!!!! Now go try to fiqure out how to do it.
