Ten years ago some friends of mine built thier house to be off the grid because the power lines did not go to thier property. They use solar, wind and a gas generator along with passive solar water heating. Now the power lines go past thier place and they are sick of being off grid and are going to reconnect and sell the surplus power back.

They lost money and had to completely readjust thier lifestyle. Thier opinion is it is not worth it, at least in western Washington. Even if your local climate is mostly sunny year round you will never recoup the equipment cost in savings. Most of the people that do it just want to look progressive. Solar panels are only 14% efficient and wind turbines need an average of 8 MPH constant wind to put out even a small amount of power.

I also know of several gated housing associations that would not alow that equipment on your house.

My mom just had to euthanize her purebred chocolate lab that had sudden onset of kidney failure. She was feeding her the eukanuba wet food. Her dog was only eight years old and she is very pissed about the whole deal.

I just heard on the news this morning that one out of six pets that eat the listed foods will die.

Spinal steroid injections.

last wed i got a spinal epidural steroid injection and for the first time in many years i am back pain free.

i am curious as to how many people have had them that experienced an improvement or did not.. i am a licensed massage therapist and i work in conjunction with a chiropractic clinic.

we see most people after they have tried most or all of the traditional medical treatments and have not had any relief.

I wish your daughter all the best and I hope she tries as many different modalities as possible. There are more treatments available now then ever before and sooner or later we will find the one that works. Chronic pain will destroy you and your very existence.

Brad Delp of "Boston" dies at 55.

lead singer brad delp died today of unknown causes.

boston was one of my all time favorite hard rock groups.

they were in the process of recording thier next album.

Brad and former Boston member Barry Goudreau also put out a couple albums with a group called "RTZ" and "Delp and Goudreau". I have all of the CD's and you can hear the Boston influence on the guitar sound, layering and vocals. They are worth buying if you like the Boston sound.

The first concert I took my daughter to was Boston's Corporate America tour. She was only five at the time but I wanted to make sure her first concert was one of the all time greatest groups. For several days after the concert she would singing in her little pixie voice "Rock n roll band" and "Don't look back".

That is a great experience to let others know about. You never know if you may have just helped someone else who has a situation similar to yours.

Chronic low back pain with sciatica is life altering and eats away at you from the inside out. People that have not had it have no idea what it is like to deal with day after day. Despite the problems that can come from cortical steroid use I had to weigh out my options. It's always the risk vs reward dilema.

As a former EMT I have seen several guys that have taken thier own lives from not being able to endure the pain any longer. That is sobering beyond words to see that without some form of intervention it can get to that point.

Even with the injections I am still devoting a hour a day to lumbar extension and flexibility exercises. Next week I am buying a new mountain bike with a better suspension. Me and my daughter will be hitting the trails and bike paths around our area. This last year I have had to give up alot of activities and now I am going to start reclaiming them.

I am glad to hear that others have also gained some relief. Twenty years ago I had a diagnostic spinal block that dropped my blood pressure down to 60/0. It was the most intense fear I have ever experienced, feeling like you are going to die and having tunnel vision happen.

So I had some very high anxiety about this injection and almost chickened out. But they assured me that this is completely different and then completely snowed me on Valium. When I got home I slept for ten hours. My wife strictly enforced my house arrest order from the doc. But for being a "warden" she was not that bad.

We see most people after they have tried most or all of the traditional medical treatments and have not had any relief. For years I have heard countless stories of cortisone injections that did not work. After doing a little research I found out that there is a 50/50 chance of them working so I decided to give it a try.

There are not adequate words to explain the relief I got along with some unexpected improvements in the "plumbing departments" also. I have degenerative disk disease and osteo arthritis from a back injury 23 years ago so the pathology is still there but now without any pain. You can get up four injections per year safely until eventually the disk will need to be replaced.

The forums so often have health problem posts that I wanted to share a positive experience in hopes that anyone else that may not have tried epidural steroid injections might re-consider.

My philosophy is I could just rely on western medicine like my parents and grandparents did and suffer all of the problems they did or I could try something new. By the time my dad was my age he had skin cancer twice, multiple lower intestinal problems, had worn glasses since he was eighteen, had out of control clinical depression and very high cholesterol and blood pressure.

So far I have avoided all of those problems by taking mega doses of high grade vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and green source superfoods. I spend $80-100 per month on supplements which I call my optimal health insurance premium.

I challenge anyone to tell me why I should not keep doing what so far is working great?

What about the declaration of "peace and security and then sudden destruction"? Peace and security is not going to occur in our lifetimes and probably not in several more lifetimes. What would have to change on this planet for people to declare peace and security? Have the JW's abandoned that scripture?

No more wars.

No more nuclear weapons

No more crime

No more disease

No more poverty

Even if all that was gone we still would have natural disasters to contend with, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial.
