  Poem from dub friend.

  i got this in an e-mail from a childhood friend that is still an active jw.

  i found it to be very upsetting and was wondering if anyone else gets the kind of e-mail forwards from friends/family that are still in?

  and how you handle it.

  Well, to answer your question directly, no, I don't get these type of e-mail forwards, since I am very likely to respond to this type of trash and debunk it.

  As to how to handle it, I would suggest that you respond in a way that gets the sender thinking. Instead of an angry response, you might ask some questions, like:

  1) Why do you think the husband refused to find work after he lost his job? Is laziness a trait of "worldly" people or just bad people?

  2) Why do you think the husband was infected with HIV? Was this due to inappropriate sexual behavior, or was it from something else, like receiving a blood fraction in a medical setting? What would you think of a JW husband who infected his wife with HIV through some Watchtower approved means, such as the use of blood "clotting factors"?

  What's wrong with the WTBS in a nushell.

  i realized the other morning that it was twenty years ago that i started my exit.

  at the spring 1988 circuit assembly (i think it was in february or march) they absolutely hammered on the point that higher ed was a waste of time.

  armageddon was going to happen any day now and there was no point in preparing for life in system that was about to end.

  The Watchtower Society produces takers. People that aren't willing to do anything for themselves, because God is about to fix all their problems.

  If you had window washers in your congregation, you were lucky. In my congregation back in the 80s, the thing to do was Unemployment Insurance / Disability scams. My book study conducter was a good example. He had "inhaled some chemicals" in a previous job, which supposedly prevented him from working. The dole was enough to support his wife, two kids and a nice house.

  The Watchtower is bad for individuals and for society - that's what is wrong with it, in a nutshell. We can't all just sit around waiting for something to happen.

  1914- What's the big deal if it's the wrong date?

  i hear it a lot on this board that the 607 date is wrong... i figured that out while i was a jw... never really thought much about it though.

  just thought, ok, if it's wrong then everything is moved up about 20 or so years.... and for that matter, why is it such a big deal to the society?

  why can't they just fix the date so it's right.

  Getting back on track ... I think I understand your question "Why can't they just fix the date so it's right?" Your point is ... what difference does 20 years make?

  I side with those that said 1914 was a kind-of, sort-of successful prediction for the WTS. Okay, not really, when you consider what they really predicted would happen in 1914. But they did say "1914", and can once again use the excuse of having predicted 'the wrong things at the right time'.

  There have been so many changes to dates lately, they probably realize that dropping 1914 will make them look like complete idiots. They will no doubt have to drop 1914 eventually, to survive, but they need to wait awhile until some of the latest changes, such as the most recent generation change, have a chance to set in.

  One other thought - I've had some fundy evagelicals from similar churches tell me that 1934 is the correct date for the end of the Gentile Times. They accept the historical 587 date, and have a similar timeline otherwise, so they end up with 1934. They say the big 'hell breaks loose' event was when Hitler took power.

  anyways in this article the liason committee gives permission for a "forced" transfusion.

  the article basically points out the loophole!!

  Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(

  i've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!

  i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.

  they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

  "Witnesses definately aren't perfect"

  I hear this sort of thing from individual JWs a lot, as in "Well, they're the best of a bad lot". Understand that this is not the official position of the organization, though. The current party line is that the Jehovah's Witnesses have the "truth". God is using the organization to dispense "truth", even when it isn't true.

  Returning to the JWs involves more than just going back to the Kingdom Hall and making friends. It involves going door-to-door spreading "truth". How do you feel about telling "wordly" people that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 B.C., when it was not? How do you feel about telling "worldly" people that blood transfusions are forbidden by the bible, when they are not?

  Is it worth spreading lies in order to make friends?

  I wonder how we can differentiate between religions, then, since they all make mistakes.

  Why is it that mistakes made by the Watchtower leadership are evidence of human fallibility, but mistakes made by other religions are evidence that Satan is using them?

  "Leaving babylon the great ... possibly geographical"

  I immediately pictured JWs worldwide boarding rafts and all floating to the east cost of the U.S., with their ultimate destination being Patterson, New York. The U.S. Coast Guard would no doubt fire on them, leading to a positive identification of the United States as the new King of the North.

  As time goes by, and more prophecies fail, the leadership gets more squirrely and desperate.

  TV progams that must be not be viewed at all costs

  the elder giving the public talk a couple of weeks ago told the congregation that there are more and more.

  movies and tv programs, like charmed, or books and movies like harry potter that must be avoided at all costs.

  because they are a direct link to demonism and spiritism.

  I remember one sister telling us that we should not watch the Superman movies, because:

  1) Children will be confused, since they will think that men can fly, and

  2) It's a form of idolatry and false worship, since Superman is taking on the role of Christ.

  Sometimes it was hard to check my laughter.
