As a life long JW, I have never worn a costume, given out candy, carved a pumpkin, let alone volunteer at a Haunted House Fund Raiser Halloween Party. So for the very first time I wore all black with a very scary mask and terrified the bejesus out of little children. Wow was that Fun! A friend of a friend designs and builds a haunted house every year in Vancouver Wa for the Human Society of SW Washington. More than 500 people brought a can of pet food in exchange for a tour of the scary Haunted House. These people love their families, pets and fun and don't mind how much hard work it takes to put on a good show for a great cause. I feel very privileged to have met them and now to call them friends. We closed the gates at 11pm to kids and had a private party. The main topic of conversation was 'how do we make it better next year'. Throughout the evening I observed families together, dressing up and pretending. Daddies with little ones cuddling because they were scared and Daddy can save them. Mom's hugging little guys and telling them it is all make believe. I realized monsters and ghosts and blood and guts can be perfectly wonderful. Every one who participated made a memory and I cannot wait to join in the horrible party again next year.

Did Your District Conventions Have A Meat Market?
by Jeremy C ini was recently thinking back upon some of my unusual memories of being in the organization.
one of them was of the dodger stadium "meat market".. we used to attend our district conventions at dodger stadium in los angeles.
for those of you who arent familiar with the stadium, dodger stadium has a very large level with blue seats - which is the largest level within the stadium.

oh yeah, I was there in the late 60's, early 70's. The infamous blue level but my group called it Horny Corner. I must say, I have some great memories of Dodger Stadium. Those were the days of vodka and OJ in a thermos sitting on the top level catching rays. My greatest ambition was The Perfect Tan and an after DC hours party. The boys home from Bethel were our rock stars so an invite to their party was equal to a VIP pass at the Viper Room. We had the Blue Truth Book, we were young and beautiful AND gonna live forever, WOW, what a bunch of suckers huh. All that youth and not a college education among us....we did have fun but what a waste of talent.

Atlas Shrugged
by purplesofa ini finished reading "atlas shrugged" by ayn rand yesterday.
like reading crisis of conscience it will forever alter the way i look at many many things.. this paragraph is only a small part in this amazing book, if you ever have a chance to read this book, try.
it's about a thousand pages, you can't just skim through.. i just want to share this....... "what is the nature of the guilt that your teachers call his original sin?

I read Atlas Shrugged several years ago at the suggestion of our friend here on JWD, Dagney. You will recognize that main character. It is unlike any book I'd ever read. While the story is layered and interesting that is not what keeps you reading. It was the insights of passages such as you quoted that had me reading certain pages over and over. I started keeping a highlighted at hand to mark parts that made me go 'ah ha' It is one of those book I plan to read again. Thanks for the reminder.

I am invited to my 1st ever Halloween Party. A friend of a friend turns his house into a huge maze of all things scary. He has been collecting Halloween props 20yrs. He goes to movie auctions for horror film props and puts up fliers all over inviting kids to come take a walk through HELL! They expect 1000 kids this year. It takes alot of work so he asks friends to help and he provides the costumes. I don't know my assignment yet but I asked 'please no devil outfit' It's to early in my journey, give me time. Anyway, this is BIG for me. I have never done any holiday celebration, let alone the Devils Day. I'm very excited though and get the giggles just thinking about dressing up and scaring little kids. And the cool thing is the guy does it all to support the human society. He asks the kids to bring a can of dog or cat food as their entry fee. They get their liver scared out of em and candy and punch. At 11pm he locks the gate and the private party starts for all the crew. Oh Boy, can't wait.

Black Widow Spider bites beware!
by Thechickennest inthis year in our part of the county all spiders and black widows seem to more visable this year than in previous years.
this brings me to the subject i would like to share with all in with idea that someone might saved some agony.. last thursday night just before i was going bed, a large black spider fell out of my pajama shorts to the floor landing in between my feet.i tried to step back but the spider spun a web between my feet and when i moved the spider moved!
i finally got a good look at the spider before i wrapped her in tp and flushed her down the toilet.

I'm an avid gardener and generally not afraid of spiders. I protect them because most are extremely beneficial. But you guys are FREAKIN ME OUT !

"I saw something nasty in the woodshed..."
by Gregor ina great line from"cold comfort farm" and one i think of often when i reminisce on my awakening from a lifetime of being soaked in the watchtower environment.
if i had never been immersed in the org by my appointment as an elder i might never have had an opportunity to peek into the woodshed.
i took the position seriously and threw myself into serious study.

Gregor, your words struck a nerve in me 'death sentence' I have understood the disfellowshiping arrangement as just that. My daughter was DF at 16 and a light bulb flashed in my eyes and I began to see the ugly Troof. I understood she needed some form of discipline and guidance but a Death Sentence was ridiculously brutal. When I confronted an elder over the harsh treatment he flippantly responded with 'it's up to her to make it right with Jehovah, she can come back' Yet within the same week at the KH a talk was given saying, 'those in the DF state when Armageddon strikes will surely be destroyed. They also pointed out that the Big A is very very VERY close. That's when I lost it an walked out of the KH. I personally never accepted the 'death sentence' teaching. But that is the WTBS position and I could no longer associate my name with an organization with such an obscene way of dispensing judgment. My father was also DF for taking a blood transfusion. Yet if he had known that blood fractions or the cell saving machine could have been used he would not have been given the 'death sentence' He died years later in the DF state and he was not given any sort of memorial service as no JW would attend. The whole arrangement if hateful and detestable.

I graduated from WWCU also, what a small world. I went on to specialize in dub converting with a doctorate in Domestic Engineering. The dub converting went bust when I realized dah! it was all a pack of lies. Domestic engineering went well and has developed into Full Time Cleaning for fun and profit. I should look into product development to distribute my homemade window cleaning potion. I will share it here just for you special friends. 1 empty gal jug, add: 1 pint rubbing alcohole 1/4 cup ammonia 2 Tbs Dawn dish washing liquid Fill the jug with water. less than $1.50 for 1gal of the best glass and all purpose cleaner. my high school teachers offered Design School but the WTBS said 'read our lips - you will Live Forever' Thank you WTBS for wrinkled hands and emotionally stunted social skills.
