Many wedding customs have pagan origins from what I understand. Rings, veils, wedding white, cake. When I brought up these things he downplayed them as not the main focus of the event. I know there are other commons customs with pagan origins but can't think of them off hand.

He brings up Christmas pagan origins as a argument that the WTBS teachs the truth of the Bible. really, Really? that's he's Truth!
Can anyone share other examples of "pagan origins" that Jdubs might practice today without knowing or caring about the history.

I'm old too so when I clicked the JWN icon and this place pops up my stomach went flip-flop! I've been here a couple times in the last few days and now I see how it works and will adjust....oh yes I Will!
I do not post much but when I feel unsteady and need a Xjw fix this is where I come. Thanks for the chat among friends. We all need a make over every so often and the site now looks fresh and current. Thanks!

Orange County Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa CA, July 1967. I was 15 and did it because everyone else was. All I had to do was show up in the seats saved for baptismal candidates. The next year the candidates had to have a "study" with an elder so I got it done just under the wire. I was very very shy and elders scared me to death.
After I married my 2nd husband in 1981 I found pictures of his baptisim....OCF DC 1967, a private home pool. We did not know each other at the time but I am in the background of his pictures. At the time we said jehovah must have brought us together.

I had a set of JW Greeting Cards with Margeret Keene images and scriptures inside re Get Well, Have a Nice Day, ect. All the Big Eyed children playing in the New Order. Big Eyed sea creatures and lions, tigers and bears, all Big Eyes. I loved them so much I never sent them to anybody thinking one day I would frame them....hum, wonder where I put those?

Do you remember the 15 minute break at the Sun. meeting?
by 3rdgen ina poster on another thread reminded me of when there was a 15 min.
break between the talk and the wt study on sundays.
the break was supposed to be to allow jw's time to drive their bible studys home from the talk.

OK I'll take the OLD title too. I remember the 15min break well. The Talk and WT were a full 60mins ea not including songs and prayers. I will never forget the beautiful young DF'd woman who sat in a folding chair at the back of the hall, all alone, she never got up during the break. Just sat there as if she wore a scarlet letter. Sue Farr was her name, Huntington Beach, CA. My mother told me not to look at her but I was so sad for her.
I also remember the announcment that the break was for time to engage in "intercourse" among the congergation. It wasn't until years later that I understood the term to mean anything but conversation between people. My mom used the expression commonly too without any question to it's double meaning. It was a very different "world" back then. I kinda miss it but then, nah.
