Gregor, your words struck a nerve in me 'death sentence' I have understood the disfellowshiping arrangement as just that. My daughter was DF at 16 and a light bulb flashed in my eyes and I began to see the ugly Troof. I understood she needed some form of discipline and guidance but a Death Sentence was ridiculously brutal. When I confronted an elder over the harsh treatment he flippantly responded with 'it's up to her to make it right with Jehovah, she can come back' Yet within the same week at the KH a talk was given saying, 'those in the DF state when Armageddon strikes will surely be destroyed. They also pointed out that the Big A is very very VERY close. That's when I lost it an walked out of the KH. I personally never accepted the 'death sentence' teaching. But that is the WTBS position and I could no longer associate my name with an organization with such an obscene way of dispensing judgment. My father was also DF for taking a blood transfusion. Yet if he had known that blood fractions or the cell saving machine could have been used he would not have been given the 'death sentence' He died years later in the DF state and he was not given any sort of memorial service as no JW would attend. The whole arrangement if hateful and detestable.

if i had never been immersed in the org by my appointment as an elder i might never have had an opportunity to peek into the woodshed.
i took the position seriously and threw myself into serious study.

I graduated from WWCU also, what a small world. I went on to specialize in dub converting with a doctorate in Domestic Engineering. The dub converting went bust when I realized dah! it was all a pack of lies. Domestic engineering went well and has developed into Full Time Cleaning for fun and profit. I should look into product development to distribute my homemade window cleaning potion. I will share it here just for you special friends. 1 empty gal jug, add: 1 pint rubbing alcohole 1/4 cup ammonia 2 Tbs Dawn dish washing liquid Fill the jug with water. less than $1.50 for 1gal of the best glass and all purpose cleaner. my high school teachers offered Design School but the WTBS said 'read our lips - you will Live Forever' Thank you WTBS for wrinkled hands and emotionally stunted social skills.

No More gum chewing

now i can understand kids but come on..... so he gets up there a few weeks ago and says:.
"a brother told me that he was talking with a gb member, and the gb member said that chewing gum is rude".

At one of the last CA's I attended they made the announcement that 'chewing gum is a rude and unclean habit' OK, I get the rude part when talking or in a business setting but what is 'unclean' about gum? The No Gum rule is one of the 'put me over the edge' issues with the WTBS. A stupid excuse to talk down to the flock.

Yes, me too, I questioned and doubted for a very long time. Really from the time I was a teen in the 60's. I thought I could filter out what I did not believe because it was basically a 'good clean life'. I used to say 'even if Armageddon does not come within my lifetime I have no regrets'.....ahem, Then when I turned 50 and had raised 4 children IN for some reason the scales finally fell from my eyes and I could see that 'good and clean' was not enough. People were being damaged by this organization. It was not 'The Truth' and I could no longer teach it to others as the best way of life. Too many teachings had no scriptural basis and the FDS was flip flopping on too many issues.
I have now been actively 'OUT' for 5+yrs.
But regarding the topic, I agree most JW's don't leave even when they recognize the lie. I had a very long conversation with an active JW just this past Fri night over several glasses of scotch. He does not agree with much of the teachings and just takes the parts he likes and does what he wants. He does not agree with the DF position so he meets and greets who he wants. He says the field service time requirements are just a suggestion so he fills in the slip to make them feel good. He just likes the 'good clean lifestyle' The one area that is eating at him is 'no higher education' but he also feels that is just a suggestion. He is a mental health counselor and well educated himself so sees the benefit to a college degree. He felt his high school years were much more morally debauched. College taught him how to take on adult responsibility and deal with adult issues.
We have a date to get together again and I plan to hit him hard because I see some of those scales coming loose around his eyes. -

The View - Sherri Shepherd - confirmed raised as JW
by Lady Lee ini know there has been talk about this but am not sure if it was just speculation.
but it is confirmed.. today on "the view" sherri shepherd admitted she was raised as a jw.. sherri shepherd commented that she and michelle rodriguez (from "lost") had something in common.
guest michelle disclosed she was raised as a jw and reached over and grabbed sherri's hand.

In the first year Sherri was a guest host on The View she mentioned JW's a few times. I was curious what her connection was so I emailed her on the show and she wrote back very quickly that Yes, indeed she had been raised as one of JW's. I replied that she was in a unique position to expose some of the cultist ways of the religion. We exchanged several emails and she explained that due to her having family and acquaintances still members of the religion she was careful not to alienate them. But she also said when opportunities arise on the program she would try to enlighten people about how the religion operates.
Oh and she also said that one of her best friends is currently trying to break free from the witness and they are attending at Christian Church together.
I thought it was very nice that she read my notes and was willing to share her personal experiences openly. -
