Late 60's, Glacier Falls, Anahiem, CA, Sunday nights I believe. Also somewhere in Paramont and might have gone to Pasadena a few times too, can't remember. As teenage Jdubs we had no school activities so these skating parties were our only recreation. Wonderful memories but yes I remember there was lots of criticizum and the events got slowed down to like once a month.
When my children became preteens I was the mom who organized the Skating Parties. It often turned into family nights where even the dads/elders showed up. Pure fun. I still want to JUMP every time I hear Van Halen.

I clicked "Born In and never really accepted". Even though it took me 50yrs to exit I never grasped what the hell they were talking about. I liked my social circle, warm and fuzzy. I liked the routien and clean living concepts. But all my life the "living forever in Paradise" just never took. How is that going to work? AS IF! One day I finally dicided I cannot teach this nonsense to one more poor slob.

"Well angels don't make mistakes"
guess he didn't read the part of Genesis where the angels came down to breed with women. If I were a woman, I'd be kinda creeped out to think that angels were listening to my prayers... and watching me in the shower.
Billy, best laugh I've had all day. And Yet! I used to think about that very thing.
about being "late" to meetings. I was habitually late. Gave myself a past because I had 4 children to get ready. I would often send my elder husband off in his own car with the kids that were ready, phew. It was not until I left that I came to understand it was the dread of that boring and arrogant program they put on. I dare not allow myself to think it was Them and not Me. I browbeat myself and tried and tried to be more prompt. I would make one meeting on time and give myself a Attaboy and then return to my old ways.Thank goodness I had a husband who stood up for me when anyone would refer to me as Sister Tardy.

Literature carts are the cruisiest way to preach ever - photo attached

My husband works at our local community college, YVCC. The Jdubs have literature tables set up near the HUB or cafateria 3 days a week. A couple of dubs sit there just talking among themselves for 4-5 hrs. He has never seen a student engage them other than a few mentaly challenged students.
Where do these Literature Carts come from? Who makes them? Our local guys could use a make-over to the Cart Look.

The long road of the VW Bus coming to an end
by designs ini didn't even realize the vw bus was still in production but vw in brazil still produces the iconic bus, production will end in december.. many of us had vw buses, surf wagons et al, i had a 1959 'camper' special we would take on surfing trips to baja california and camp on the beaches down by san quentin.. i took my 'magic bus ride' with four jw buddies just before my arrest over the vietnam draft.
we rode up the california coast to big sur.
with the side door open and feet hanging out we traveled the coastal route from los angeles through santa barbara, pismo beach, san simeon, big sur and monterey ending in san francisco where i hopped a flight back to los angeles for my arraignment.. enjoy-.

Many of my First Time's happened in a VW Bus. Most sweet, some tragically sad. Over the years I have owned many VW Bugs and Bus's. To this day when I see a Bus on the road, I wave and give them a PEACE sign. Most of the time they send one back and we both SMILE!

Does Anyone Remember the "Around The World Assemblies"?
by titch inso, being that it is 2013, i recall that it was 50 years ago, that the "around the world assemblies" were held.
for those of us who lived in southern california, the first week of september was when we had the assembly, and it was held at the rose bowl in pasadena.
yep, the rose bowl, with no seats, per se, but just those hard benches as seats.

All 8 days, morning to after dark, I was there with my family. I was 11 but do not remember much about the program, only the heat and hard seats. My mom planned well with coolers and umbrellas and we never left early. We lived in Huntington Beach Cal, about 50 miles from Pasadena so we stayed with someones worldly relative in one of those big old Pasadena mansions near the Rose Bowl. Staying in that house is one of my fondest Jdub memories. I do remember my mom's face during Knorr's loooon talk on Sunday, very irritated.

I would agree, the US may be strategizing for more then a one time hit over the chemical use. It will escalate to be sure. Makes me heartsick and grievous. I got out my old hippie peace beads and will be wearing them proudly everyday. Might even put some flowers in my hair.

Were Any of You Part of the L.A. JW Party Scene in the Late 60s/Early 70s?
by DNCall inif you were, you'll remember how happening it was..

tinker
I was in the OC and our party scene was pretty happening too. Every weekend a House Party or Beach Party or Wedding, no invitation required, just show up, dance, drink and hang out, make out. Around DC time, The Fourm, Doger Stadium, LA and OC would mingle. Or when The Bethelites came to town we had to show extra hospitality. The Best Party I remember was with all the DC Orchestra people. DNC you may remember some of them ;P
I married a pioneer I met at a party, TOO YOUNG. But I have to say I didn't feel I was missing anything the World had to offer. My social circle was Full, polarized of course but at the time I was having a Blast. Only years later did I realise that high school and college parites would have added to my development as an adult living the the Real World.

tinker
not a word but I could discribe the swimsuit and outfit for the day including shoes and notebook. I was 15, Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa, CA. Years later I was married and came accross a picture of my baptism and What Do Ya Know!!! my husband had been baptized the same day. We would not meet until many years later. It was held in a large private home pool and we were dipped in the same water. We used to feel it was pretty special. These days we think it is pretty Creepy!
