It's either insense used to cover up the smell of burnt chicken from the secret rituals that the elders and their wives perform in the hidden basement on Saturday nights...or it's the new carpet.

Kingdumb Hall Smell
by Wordly Andre inever notice all the kingdumb halls smell the same, like new books or something.
i haven't been inside a kingdumb hall since a funeral i went to a couple years ago, but right when i walked in, it was the same smell.
what got me thinking about this is i have a new book here, smells like kingdumb hall, but i guess what do you expect from a "religion" sorry publishing company, to smell like.

What Did You Hide From Others While You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini see that some here were actually "in the closet" while they were witnesses.
some kids practiced "fornication" regularly but the only ones who knew anything about it were other youths that would never tell about the secrets.. some marriages were simply horrible.
but no one would've ever had a clue.. was there anything that you ever concealed from the elders or other witnesses that would've gotten you in trouble?.

I hid visiting sites like this one in my search for answers to my nagging doubts.
Later, I hid visiting regularly and even posting on this particular site.
Also, I hid what I really thought of a couple of real a-hole elders in my congregation and some other witnesses I used to work with.
I won't even come to grips with admitting any sexual issues in my present relationship, oral or auto.

Birthdays—Simple Deconstruction of the JW Rationale
by AuldSoul into deconstruct the jw rationale surrounding birthdays, a few simple guidelines should be followed.. (1): don't waste any energy trying to convince a jw that birthdays are not pagan, if they suggest that, readily agree.
whether or not the celebrations are pagan turns out to be a non-issue that distracts from the main point.. (2): stay focused on the fact that jws disfellowship people for celebrating birthdays.. (3): stress the point that there should always be clear scriptural reason for disfellowshipping someone.
ask them often throughout the discussion whether this is the case, get them to reinforce this need to themselves.. (4): remember, the first goal is deconstructing their rationale, not giving them a new rationale, not convincing them that celebrating birthdays is a good thing.. once you have these well in mind, the deconstruction can begin.. jw rationale, in brief:.

Poppy brought out the point about the use of dogs in the bible and how the bible portrays them. I particularly liked that line of reasoning. Thanks, undercover!

Auld, can you give us something about busting up the reasoning behind the attention-to-self thing that some witnesses use as a reasoning against birthdays. I think there is a reference to a scripture that says something about better is the day of ones death than the day of one's birth.

MyJWSpace Update 7/24
by WTWizard inout of curiosity, i checked out the myjwspace site mentioned in an earlier thread to see if it was growing.
as of now, there are 64 members on the whole site, and a grand total of (all this) one post on the whole forum!
of course, without joining, there is no way to read those posts to cut and paste segments of it here to tear them apart.. they have a chat room where they claim all the people are jws, the topics are safe, and they can be themselves (as dull and preprogrammed as they can get).

If you are looking to purchase something check out the classified section to see if another JW is selling the item you need. Odds are you will get a good value by buying from the friends.
OMG...this is from one of the welcome pages. I kid you not.

Closing prayers at JW conventions
by TD ini've often thought that the closing prayer at jw conventions is a study in psychology in and of itself.. consider the typical scenario.
it's 4:30pm on a sunday afternoon.
people are tired and hungry.

I used to think that the people I saw leaving during the last part were impatient or in a hurry or rude or just had to beat the traffic. I no longer think that. They were the smartest ones in the whole crowd of 7000+ in attendance. They were skipping out BEFORE that final prayer. lol

I believe what I say because I know and trust the source. Plus, as far as I know, I don't hallucinate nor am I on any medication. And I'm pretty sure I don't lapse into any spells where I rant and rave and tell untruths online and then have amnesia afterwards. I can't speak for anyone else, though.
But, yes, I tend to believe most people on here. What do they have to gain from being dishonest? Aren't they here to leave that kind of thing behind--i.e. the dishonest organization they were once a part of?

I've successfully infiltrated. You guys don't know what you're missing. It's like a virtual spiritual paradise. It's the e-courtyards of the e-temple.
Here's a quote from a comment left by someone on Ely's page (I think Ely might be a moderator or something):
it's reassuring to be surrounded by people who are your REAL brothers and sisters.
It's so beautiful. I must weep now. But, wait, it goes on...
(I really hope the infestation is temporary.)
That's weird...whatever does she mean?
Btw, they are offering $1 to 5$ for referals. I'm not clear on the price difference. Maybe governing body members are worth $5. CO's and DO's are at the $4 level. Elders $3. MS/Pioneers $2. Who knows?
I can't wait to see what kind of adverts they'll put in the site to generate more revenue.
I wonder if I should put a copy on my new myjwspace space of the article about avoiding social/dating websites, even those supposedly for and by witnesses.
