Do JWs qualify as Christ disciples based on John 13:34, 35?
by Sola Scriptura inim a long time lurker first time poster.
i am an open minded jw who believes in freeness of speech.
i love my faith and my worldwide brother and sisterhood (even though i see much room for improvement in how things are run).. i thought i would stir things up a bit with the following question:.

Certainly many JWs are trying to be deciples of Christ and God can read their hearts. These ones are simply going with the best option that they see available to them....The problem is that the society severely discourages these people who are searching to worship God correctly from finding out about any other options. So, to answer your question, the organization itself doesn't display the qualities you mentioned, but there are some within the organization who do.

I never really felt like I belonged...neither in the organization or out. I come here for information in an effort to find facts from both sides of the argument.

Raised in it....Baptized @ 14...aux. pioneer every summer for the next three years. Magazine servant. Mic handler. Watchtower reader. Started having my "privileges" reduced because my sideburns were even with the bottom of my ear instead of the middle and I wouldn't accept the "council" to shave them. When I was in it hardcore, I was very ambitious....constantly looking for things that I could do to show that I was "reaching out"..

Did the Societys Literature Ever Make You Question or Doubt It?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style2 { font-size: 18px; font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; color: #005959; } .style3 { font-size: 16px; font-family: georgia, "times new roman", times, serif; color: #005959; } --> did the societys literature ever make you question or doubt it?think back to when you thought like a jehovahs witness.
do you ever recall when a magazine, book, pamphlet or tract made you start to question .
or doubt the written material?

Studying the daniel book in the bookstudy. I just couldn't understand how some things were meant to be literal and others "prophetic" and how they knew the difference.

What do women REALLY want?
by Abandoned inok, i've heard it all: sincerity, honesty, security, money, love, romance, flowers, poems, promises, and more.
but, in my arguably limited experience, i've been shot down while doing all of these (at differnt times obviously).
so, what do women really want?
-
Lumptard
They want that thing in your pants.................your wallet....j/k...
..seriously though, everyone wants something different. Its hard to say what women in general want because everyone wants something different.

10 yrs younger is only a problem when you're 27 yrs old. anything older, and you got nothin' to worry about. If she's into you, go for it.

Playing with words...
by Lumptard ini was talking w/ an elder last week about whether or not jws have the only correct interpretation of the bible.
me: is there only one correct interpretation of the bible?.
elder: yes.. me: if there is only one correct interpretation, then why does each religion that is based on the bible have a slightly different interpretation that coincides with what their leaders require of the religion's members?.

Letter to the WTBTS...
by Lumptard inanyone know how long it usually takes to get a response from the society?
i sent a letter about a month ago....is this standard time?.
-
Lumptard
No, I didn't offer evidence that they were in the wrong about the U.N. thing, I just asked what the WTBTS's official position was, as no one that I talked to had any idea that it even happened.

Elder: Yes.
Me: If there is only one correct interpretation, then why does each religion that is based on the bible have a slightly different interpretation that coincides with what their leaders require of the religion's members?
Elder: Because all of the other religions besides JWs are under the influence of Satan. (shows me the scripture that says "whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one")
Me: So how do JWs know that theirs is the correct interpretation?
Elder: I don't like to use the word "interpretation"
Me: Uh.........wha?
Elder: "Interpretation" has the connotation of someone putting a spin on something. I prefer to use the word "understanding"
Me: I'm just using the dictionary's definition of interpretation. (interpretation: n. The act or process of explaining the meaning of something.)
Elder: Ok, but I still prefer to use "understanding"...The JW's understanding of the bible is the only correct one. (understanding: n.superior power of discernment; enlightened intelligence)
.....and then he went off with some type of circular logic that left me more confused than I was to begin with.
ARRGH...anyone else have this type of thing happen to them?...did I just get an illogical elder?
