The gist of you response implies that it is the people who bring this "Catastrophe" upon themselves. During my JW era, armageddon was always referred to as "God's war". We always understood that it would be God who did the killing.

reading through some of the posts re the mcveigh debate, it's obvious that there is a huge divide between the usa and europe over many issues, in particular with reference to the way that society should deal with deviants.. i think that there is a lot of other cultural differences between our societies, and i'm just wondering if this is why the wtbts has had a far higher "conversion factor" in the usa than in europe.. some of the phraseology contained in the watchtower magazines is incomprehensible to europeans.
i remember that words that are in common usage now, were, when first used in the wt, totally baffling.. the expression "no way" wasn't in common use until years after the wt featured it, like wise with "points up", also "right on" meant nothing to anyone.
indeed, many return visits to placed magazine householders resulted in them asking a bewildered dub for an explanation of these then strange terms.

Well Todd, even if you were posting in jest, maybe you should know that my dad flew over Germany in Lancasters 43 times to defend this little island, when the odds of returning were 9 - 1 each time. Of course, we were also fighting on our own for 3 years when everywhere else in Europe had been conquered.
I don't think we did too badly.

i enjoyed englishman's post about americans vs europeans.
i chose to start a new thread because i want to take the topic in another direction.. the usa is still a young nation and an enigma.
the nation was created by european settlers who wanted to get away from things they did not like about europe, especially religious intolerance and inflexible governments, and have the opportunity to build a new future.

Re Americans overseas, lets please clear up a couple of points. US visitors to London are, in the main, great people and generous to a fault. Once they get over the shock of how few places are air-conditioned, they quickly take to the warm beer and are soon cheerfully blaspheming and practising the art of banter at every opportunity.
You may find this amusing; one American that I was having a pint with in the Loose Box near to Covent Garden thought it was hilarious that there were huge pedestrian signs to warn people to "LOOK RIGHT" at road crossings. "Hey, Limey", he said (we were both 3 sheets to the wind), "Do English people really need to be told which direction the traffic is coming from?"
It hadn't occured to him that the LOOK RIGHT and DRIVE ON THE LEFT signs were there exclusively for our overseas visitors. Ho Ho!

I'm pretty sure that any US made Honda's or other Japanese cars find their way into every part of Europe except the UK and Malta. This is due to the need for right-hand drive vehicles in these places.
History tell us that the USA overtook the UK in terms of manufacturing back in 1895. Consequently, it surprises me as to how little we actually see of American exports.
In my home I have 2 items of USA manufacture, a remarkable little Hi-Fi from Bose and a crowbar made by Estwing. Other than the odd 767 flying over mixed in with the Airbus's and the Sky Movie channels there is little else to see.

You could drive around Europe for weeks on end and never see an American car.
But! Some years ago I went to a car auction in Southampton England, and there on show was a Ford Fairlane 500. You've guessed it, I bought it for a song. Only then did I realise it was an automatic drive that was stuck in intermediate. However I got it working reasonably well, and apart from the driving position being on the left, it was superb. I eventually sold it for a good profit once I got it firing on all 8.
