the children.
there are many things that could be changed, and even though i would never go back, i think there are some very basic changes they could make in their child rearing practices, simple changes that would make a big difference in their society.. 1. don't force small children to sit for two hours in a chair.. this was discussed at length on the thread about slapping children at the kingdom hall.. 2. don't bring children to meetings where the subject has to do with adult sexual practices.. 3. don't tell teenagers that they can't ask someone out for a date unless marriage is on their mind.. 4. don't tell them that they are not special, that they have to humble themselves and be like everyone else.. 5. don't tell them they have to get good grades through high school as a reflection of what jehovah has given them and then tell them they can't go to college when they graduate from high school at the top of their class.. 6. don't tell your wordly neighbors that you give your children presents all through the year, but not on their birthday, when they have never seen a special gift wrapped present in their life.. 7. don't expect a shy child to enjoy going from door to door and don't expect an extroverted, lively child to sit still at meetings.. 8. don't tell an inquiring child not to ask questions and don't tell them not to read interesting books.. 9. don't surprised if you don't change your ways that your children will leave you, even though they love you.

why is it that drinking is so widely accepted amongst jw's when the bible has this to say about it?.
*** rbi8 proverbs 20:1 ***.
20 wine is a ridiculer, intoxicating liquor is boisterous, and everyone going astray by it is not wise.. here the bible say's clearly it is not a good idea to get stuck in to the drinks but i guess the writers of proverbs, inspired as they were, did not fully agree on the drinking issue because later one of them wrote:.
THP,
It does seem a little odd that JW`s are so anti everything except booze, I have been in JW homes where there have been inverted whisky bottles fitted with optic dispensing measures fastened to the wall!
Re alcohol consumption generally, I read somewhere that drinking alcohol that contained a nutritional food element - like you would get in beer or wine - was far better for you than drinking spirits such as whisky or gin.

i know this has probably been covered a bunch...but here i go anyway lol.
how many of you guys who have been out of the org.
for a while, now celebrate the holidays?
EO,
As we dont celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, we tend to have a 10 day celebration blitz over Christmas before returning to work around Jan 3rd. It`s no fun for JW kids being left out of everything for such a long period of time either.
Last year I was frequently asked why we refer to December 26 as Boxing day, so here is the explanation:
Boxing Day
"In English-speaking countries, the day following Christmas Day is called 'Boxing Day'. This word comes from the custom which started in the Middle Ages around 800 years ago: churches would open their 'alms boxes- (boxes in which people had placed gifts of money) and distribute the contents to poor people in the neighbourhood on the day after Christmas. The tradition continues today - small gifts are often given to delivery workers such as postal staff, refuse collectors, milkmen and children who deliver newspapers. Boxing day is also a major day of sport in England."

today, the 28 february, is 17 years since my dad died.
every year, on this day, i speak to my jw mum on the telephone, just to say hello mum, i know this isn`t your favourite day.. every year that passes, she tells me that, every morning on this date, when she wakes, she tells herself that today is just another day, there is nothing special about it.. well, today i told her that today was special.
the sun and earth were in the same place, the season was the same.

Well, today I told her that today WAS special. The sun and earth were in the same place, the season was the same. She told me then that the trouble with being a JW was that you just were never allowed to grieve, and , oh, if only she could have just be left to grieve for a while.

ever since i departed the jw`s, i have pooh - pooh`d the idea of satan, devils, demons, witches and warlocks and laughed at jw paranoia re smurfs and demonised objects etc etc.. just recently, i have had some thoughts as to why jw`s are so obsessive about this subject, suppose that:.
what if the jw religion were itself of satanic origin?
consider the facts:.

Joelbear,
The book: "The Mission" is by Patrick Tilley. It`s one of the most stunning books that I have ever read. Amazon have reviews on line, but you will have to deal with their out of print section.

What if the JW religion were itself of Satanic origin? Consider the facts:
Is it not the case that Jesus Christ actually plays second fiddle to
Paul in JW teachings? If the religion was Satanic, the downplaying of Jesus would be fundamental to its survival.(According to the novel "The Mission", Paul is portrayed as the Earthly materialisation of "Brax", who`s one aim is to destroy faith in Jesus.)
For centuries the Cross has been depicted by Christians as a sacred talisman to ward off evil. Would it not be logical for a Satanic religion to propose that the Cross be seen as an evil object, so that its "healing" presence be removed from its followers? Isn`t it so that JW`s feel very uncomfortable in the presence of this symbol?
Why are JW`s so prone to "demonic" experiences, is it because they are spending too much time in the wrong company? Why are JW children so nervous of the night, is it because their young senses are picking up danger signals from their environment? Why do so many people feel that there is "something sinister" about WTBTS publications, particularly the old Rutherford works? What is it that causes the glazed expression to appear on the faces of witnesses when they encounter rebuttal of their beliefs?
There is no doubt that the societies origins were heavily mired in Masonic beliefs and pyramidology. I have a friend who fled a Masonic initiation half-way through the final ceremony, so terrified was he of the Satanic forces that he felt were present.
It makes you wonder, doesn`t it?

i mean c'mon people, how long are 'we' going to vent?
i have met people who have been 'out' for well over twenty years, and they still talk about the watchtower as if they never left or as if they left yesterdayrr in a response on the thread: don't you have a single good thing to say?'.
are we perhaps all whistling in the dark?
`afternoon, Joel bear,

Frenchy,
I have been posting on these boards for almost a year now, and I am nowhere near finished in saying what I want to say about my time in the JW`s.
It takes longer than 1 year to cleanse oneself of 18 years association with the WTBTS, so in answer to Logicals question, no, there is nothing good about being a JW, absolutely nothing.
At this rate, I expect to have finished venting in about 17 years. As they said to my pal who once had a nervous breakdown, "It`ll take as long for you to come out of it as it did for you to go into it".
