We are free to love
by purplesofa inwhat i have noticed since pulling away from group thinking, mindsets, rules and superstitions, that i am open to a broader range of loving people.. i am not sure i can blame all this on the jw expericance.
as children we are taught from our tribe, (family and enviroment, church, school, extended family, neighborhood..........who to love and who not to love.
i used to believe as the witnesses taught, you have to "beat" the evil out of children.. have you ever watched a group of small children unattended?

Yes Tim I was there with you and your family.
I was the cook in the kitchen, remember.
Thanks for posting and welcome to JWD.
I would encourage you to read the early posting here on JWD if you have not already haven't.
When it comes to issues with the WBTS, if that's what your looking for, there was more informative data
Thanks

Too much consumerism?
by greendawn inis our modern society too materialistic and over influenced by consumerism?
companies producing goods spend billions to advertise them to create a desire and need for them so that they will be purchased.
some of these goods are vital and necessary eg a decent car, washing machine, refrigerator but many other goods are not really necessary eg luxury cars, fashions that change frequently making things obsolete long before they are worn out, numerous beauty products.

Yes I believe there is to much pressure to buy.
If you were ever in a position to hear a conversation that I was having. You will often here me say, 'There are three institution that control the world'
Most person say, 'What that?.
To which I say, 'Religion, Politics and Commerce'
I try to help, especially younger persons, see that commerce is using religion and politics to control their lives.
Just planting seeds.

I am on this forum three times during the day.
Morning.
Afternoon.
Evening.
Have you noticed that the posters/posting have greatly increased in the past six months or is it just IBME being more aware.
Example:
Six months back what I read in the morning was there in the afternoon then again in the evening.
As it stands now, I just can not seem to keep up with all the postings. Not complaining. It makes me feel really good all under.
Thanks to all the posters who make up for me.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks

WELCOME
And thanks for checking in. But remember it's hard to check out even if you don't post much, like me.
I've been around since 2000 and only have posted 20 post. I believe I have read at least 75 percent of the post.
The material here has got to be the best.
Look around.
Enjoy

fjt/randy,
Please don't get your exercise this morning 'jumping to conclusions' without getting the facts. That happens too often in judicial committee meetings in the WTS organization.
Has it arrived here on JWD?
I also knew the Fred Franz who used to visit some of my family members on his regular trips to Cleveland, Ohio, and yes, he could be kind, funny and musical. However, to put it in perspective. I was a 'nobody' teenager -- very small for my age. It would be one thing for an ordinary person to say something like that to me, but when I found out he was Vice President -- next to God himself -- applauded by the multitudes -- I was devastated. (Just for a monent) I never forgot being an attendant and being told by Mr Fred Franz to 'shut up'. Are you wanting the 'two witness rule' to corroborate my experience? Sorry, there was just the two of us.
Remember, here's how it goes. 'For sure brother elder, in this case Mr Fred Franz, wouldn't have said that', He's such a good brother appointed by holy spirit. You must be mistaken'
Where have I heard that tune before?
For those of you who have had nothing but positive experiences as grown ups and as peers with Mr. Franz. I'm happy for you. I've had some of those myself, but it's clear that we all have different vantage points from where we collect our experiences in life.
When I read Ray Franz's books COC and ISOCF it was clear that his own expeiences with his uncle were a mixed bag. Two sides to every coin, they say.
And yes, Greendawn, everyone on this site who has felt the better experiences of shunning to the extreme has the wonderful spirited anointed Mr. Fred Franz to thank in part. Remember, to get back at his nephew and others who he considered a threat, he toughhened up the shunning (even retroactively). Prior to that a person could even disassociate w/o severe consequences -- but then Peter Gregerson.
Ah yes!!
Wonderful Freddie!!
Memories are made of this.
Thanks

Nathan,
There is one thing I enjoy about JWD.
Posters must be careful as to what they post.
Get the facts straight, then post.
Just a side point on Fred Franz if I may.
I was an attendant in the dug out where the speakers at the assemblies came out back in the late 50's.
This person came out and sat down by me. I did not know who he was so I just started to talk. Well, he said, will you shut up ( in a deep bold voice) -- I am the next speaker and I have to save my voice.
When they stated who he was -- Fred Franz, vice-pres, etc. etc. I about like to drop over. How could a christian person with such responsiblities speak to me or anyone else in such a manner.
I never did like his style of delivery. Too bombastic.
Another side point.
Sometime I think we old timers contributed to their big headedness by our applause and compliments, etc.
Me thinks me talking to much.
Thanks

Are elders more "pure" than the other JW's ?
by JH ini always considered elders like "cops" in the congregation, looking into other people's business and looking for faults.
they give the impression that they are pure and do no wrong and by the fact, they can judge others and counsel them.. i'd love to turn the tide around and find out about their faults and sins.. .
