I love hearing this stuff. It makes me think of when I was in, and now I mentally looked around the hall, wondering what everyone was doing that we didn't know about. I like knowing some were living as they pleased, whether for the purpose of rebelling or not.

Grandma's in the Hospital- Help on a "JW in the family" problem
by OnTheWayOut ina bit long, but i really need to vent, and i really need your replies.. my uncle is a jw, his wife and son and daughter-in-law are jw's, too.. they all moved away from family over 15 years ago, serving where the need was greater.. they went out west to new mexico, then other places.
they all broke off all contact with their .
parents (my uncles parents who are my grandparents, and my aunt's parents who i don't know well).

Did you intentionally do certain things, either to assert yourself, even though privately/secretly, or just because you strongly felt it was the right thing to do? Things that were not in keeping with the Organization's teachings? Things that if known, could get you in hot water in the congregation?
I only did little things, but they were intentional, to "get away with it", such as singing Christmas songs, buying birthday cards "for the art", specifically selecting paper towels with holiday prints, which if questioned, I would simply have said I hadn't noticed.
Many contrary thoughts went through my mind while listening to the annoying drivel at the meetings over and over, but I didn't have differing religious beliefs at the time, other than to disagree that Jehovah's Witnesses were necessarily the "honest hearted ones" as opposed to many nonwitnesses who were obviously far better people.

Just bought a NIV- whose name should I call on, Jesus or Jehovah?
by becca1 ini'm reading romans currently and as a life long witness and nwt reader i've always read romans 10:13 as "anyone calling on the name of jehovah will be saved'.
niv says "jesus" and the context seems to suppoet this quite clearly.
could anyone please comment on this??

When we say "I'm proud of you" are we elevating ourselves above others?
by Paisley ini don't mean when we as parents tell our children we're proud of them for a certain accomplishment or approved behavior; but when one adult tells another adult "i'm proud of you for (doing this or that)", possibly implying that in our opinion the approved action should have been done sooner, are we elevating ourselves above them?
could it even be a left-handed compliment?
as in "im proud that you've stopped beating your wife.

Another aspect of this is when people say they are proud of themselves for what they consider some little accomplishment. Seems to me if there were anything to be proud of, someone else would tell them they've done a good job.
Anyway, it always seems a little sad when people do that. What do you think?
