Thats refreshing.....sounds like the special talk special meal was miles better than the special talk ever was.

So I went to dinner with a big group of Witnesses last night - No Biblical discussion or WT talk of any kind
by BonaFide inthere were 20 in the group from 3 congregations.
it was kind of a "special talk" special meal with the speaker and his wife.. no one, i mean no one, not the elders there, nor the pioneers, talked about anything "spiritual.
" everything was about work, entertainment, personalities in the congregation, and music.

I went to a birthday with a beheading once. Bit the head right off an iced teddy bear. Yum.

Can't speak with me, unless they need something
by Stan Conroy inafter many, many years outside of the jw world, my elderly parents finally decided to give me an ultimatum.
i either rejoin the jw's or they will never speak with me again.
apparently my brother is going to get the same choice.

Hi Sammie
The thing is, so many are getting mixed messages from this that its very confusing. One minute the JW's got strong council not to associate with DA or DF family living outside the home, the next you got the above quote in the flock book which says you can associate as long as you don't talk spiritual.
So which is it? I guess it all depends on the personalities in the BOE. If some hardline PO wants to crack the whip and guilt the relatives into shunning then thats what'll happen.
But it looks like disfellowshiping for associating with a DA/DF relative is no longer done. Well, at least according to the book.
They chucked out Ray Franz for this though, so makes you wonder how many others were DF'd before noo-lite shone.

The flock book says'
"Normally a close relative would not be disfellowshiped for associating with a disfellowshiped person unless there is spiritual association or an effort made to justify or excuse the wrongful course" page 103
I guess the elders are using this to give a bit of latitude.

There must be some latitude depending on the personalities on the body of elders locally. My parents don't shun me and I'm DA'd. If they were being pressured to stick to the Society rules I would be history.
Of course I don't know how long this'll last. If the CO is a hardliner and hears about the latitude the elders have given my parents, things could change. But for now I'm just happy mum & dad aren't under pressure.

Me neither, but considering I live on an island and am shunned every day, I expect one day someone I know will wake up and apologise. Not holding my breath though.

Just to turn the convo slightly, does anyone notice how easy many sisters put on weight, then lose again, then put on again?
Just as an observation alot of sisters really struggle with their weight. I know many that ballooned after their marriage or first child. I know its not uncommon for that to happen anyway, but do you think the pressure of "the truth" makes many comfort eat?
I was wondering this as thats exactly what I did. Stuffed my face when I the pressure was on (all the time) then throw it all up. I ballooned to over 16 stone regularly.
Since leaving I've lost 5 stone and have control back.
Anyone else notice or experience this?

Since we all left (me and hubby included) our lives have never been richer or happier. To give you an idea what I'm on about, my youngest son is 9 years old and he's had a rough time over the last year. His stress levels were so extreme and his behavour so bizarre that child pshycologists diagnosed him as autistic. This diagnosis was recently overturned when they realised just how badly we were being shunned at school by the "loving" JW's we all knew. His behaviour was down to STRESS caused by this shunning.
Now he is SOOO much better he actually went in for a talent contest at his school and stood up in front of an audience of 80 or more and performed some card tricks. He was GREAT!! I was just so proud of my fantastic little lad.
Then to top it all my 3rd son has just won a music contest called Wight Noize. His band will open the Isle of Wight Rock Festival in June this year on the main stage!!! I'm so thrilled and excited for him!!!
Oh yes! Life outside the Org is so sweet
