My parents have just booked their room for the Bournemouth UK convention in June. I don't want them to go on Sunday and listen to that talk., I really don't.

BASHING the families of disfellowshiped ones
by Pistoff inas if the first assembly day was not bad enough, talking about the greedy, fame hungry witnesses who go to college and will not get blessings from jehovah, sunday was worse.. .
i could tell the wife was not happy the minute she came through the door.
after letting her get her "lemonade" in a glass, i said, "so, no rough talks today?".

Best for me was'
1. Crisis of Conscience (of course)
2. In Search of Christian Freedom (finished the job)
3. Gentile times Reconsidered (totally blew away the 607-1914 possibility, then I was really free)
4. More Jesus, Less Religion by Steve Arterburn (taught me how damaging legalistic religion can be and how real christianity should be)
5. Combatting Cult Mind Control. (Saw for the first time how I was controlled and why I fell for it for so long)

the usual bashing of motives: those who want great wealth, prestige and seek it in a college educationcollege graduates don't always get jobs in their fieldsdrugs, drinking and sex are "rampant" at collegesthose who want to "snatch us away" are near if we go to college (isa 54)if we seek a college education, we are not spiritual mindedthe most disturbing for me was this:.
those who choose college will not get blessings from jehovahand of course there was the obligatory interview with the college graduate who disdains the education whe received.. .

i remember the night when we had the special talk about there being a great need in the field and some would be sent out.

Do you wish SUFFERING on some human beings? Should you?
by BonaFide inwith the recent illness of a gb member who has hurt many people, some have commented that they would like to have him suffer, various ways have been mentioned including having his mind fine, but his body suffering.. we all here have a hatred for child molesters, abusers, those who make others suffer.. and there are many examples in history as well.
hitler, josef mengele, john wayne gacy, and many others.. is it right to want them to suffer for what they have done?
should they be made to undergo the exact same suffering they inflicted on others?.

Yes I was also move by Lady Lee's reply.It showed me that, no matter how hurt and angry we are by the actions of others, when it comes to the final moments in many cases our compassion takes over and we see the truth of the matter. Lady Lee didn't see the monster anymore, just a frightened old man in need of comfort and reassurance. And because she is the better person, she gave that comfort.
I do wonder if many of us here that have been hurt by Jaracz's policies or by the man directly, would we really whisper in his ear that the Org is a fake in his last moments? (as some have suggested) Probably not. We may think we would, we may even wish we could, but given the opportunity, we probably wouldn't.
Thats because I believe we all are better than him, and in the last moments, we'd prove it.

Cognitive Dissonance
by mindmelda ini just got off the phone with my mom and during our conversation (which was good, actually, mostly personal, family stuff), i got a big hint of the cognitive dissonance that witnesses often operate under.
you have to understand, my parents live in an area that is about 75% lds, or mormon.. she was mentioning a young lady my aunt is studying with, and she said the following.
