  when you were a devout witness, what were the teachings that you couldnt accept, even though you believed most of the rest?.

  Among many things, some of them already pointed out above:

  That the Human race is on a downward spiral, getting ever worse the farther we get from Adam's perfection. In conjunction with this, that the "System of Things" is degenerating, Satan's influence permeates the world, things are getting worse day by day.

  It didn't make any sense to me then, nor does it when I hear my family try to make the point now.

  The Watchtower is full of bad news, calamities, famine and earthquakes, never seeing the progress.

  I see in these boards "JWs left truth because they thought the world was coming to an end in 1975, they sold their houses and left their jobs." There was no mentioned of Armageddon in the publications set for 1975. All the society said that it has been 6,000 since Adam was created on 1975. Some JWs took that as a sign and did stupid things. It was their individual fault, not the organization. They deserve what they got for not reading the bible.

  If what you say is true, that these people did a stupid thing by selling their homes and dumping their worldly security, and that it was the individual's fault in doing so, then why did the Watchtower Society recommend IN PRINT doing exactly these things pre-1975?

  Ah, but I see I am 9 minutes too late for Guyfurna's self-imposed discussion cut-off. Likely he will never open Watchtower literature from pre-1975, never question whether what he believes is in fact what happened, will never look up one damn thing at all.

  Och, rotten news, but glad to hear the prognosis is positive. Tough, young body indeed.

  An area of health care that has come a long way since the days when I had a tough, young body is post-operative physiotherapy. Pinpointed, controlled and monitored exercize designed to maximize the recovery from injury. This field of therapy owes a great deal to the sports industry, where maximized recovery and speedy healing can mean millions of dollars.

  There are charlatans operating in this area, and there are dedicated professionals. Though you may be vulnerable at this moment Alan, I have no doubt that you will engage your bullshit detector and select an appropriate administrator for your daughter's care and recovery.

  We found the pen thief !

  i always need a pen in my hand when i'm working - i jot things down and do a lot of scribbling (i'm sure a psychologist would have a field day with my doodles).. over the last few weeks though all my pens have been disappearing.

  i blamed angharad who had borrowed them and not put them back, she thought it must be the kids who wanted to draw with them (they've discovered a great paper supply which i like to call 'the printer') but they said they hadn't.. this morning, the culprit was discovered .... i put my pen down on the desk and up popped one of the cats, picked it up in it's mouth and calmly walked off with it.

  we followed it and found a stash of them behind a kitchen cabinet along with a good selection of the kids stickle bricks.. now, i just need to teach it to bring them back!

  My cat cannot abide an intact rubber band.

  If you leave one lying around anywhere he will find it, steal it and take it to its doom. The rubber band can often give up an impressive fight for its life which requires the cat to employ all his finely honed hunting instinct and tactical skills. When the band has been snapped the hunt is over, the kill complete.

  I keep the rubber bands that I wish to use safely out of sight in an upper cupboard.

  Nimrod - the original freethinker?

  in an earlier discussion on this board about whether the nwt mistranslated the verse in genesis about nimrod being "a might hunter in opposition to jehovah," there was some really interesting research material presented.

  as i read it i began to realize that there seems to be a central reason why nimrod has been presented as one of the truly evil men of human history.. the witnesses emphasize that he was the one who started war, becoming a killer and tyrant.

  but in one of the quotes, there is a more likely reason for nimrod being vilified and demonized.

  In the context of the JW teaching of "Jehovah's universal sovereignty" and allowing man's rule to continue so as to prove man's efforts to be lacking and unworthy, the Genesis 11 account of God's reaction at Babel is as infuriating as the ruling of a corrupt judge and as disappointing as watching a child who wants to change the rules of a game when he starts to lose.

  Here Nimrod had the first Biblically recorded attempt to implement the concept of centralization, and God simply could not let it succeed. Jehovah stepped in, diddled the languages, ensured that this human effort would fail, sat back to watch the chaos he had introduced and then proceded with his own agenda.

  The "Can man rule himself?" experiment can be demonstated to never have occurred given Jehovah's self-serving meddling with our very means of discussing how we should rule ourselves and who should be ruling.

  personnally, i thing that the movie "the matrix" and the movie "the truman show" really describe my experience in the wbts.

  when i discovered the truth about the "truth", my perception of the reality became really different.

  all that i have been taught was just a big lie.
