Good points. Too bad that the posters who need to read this probably won't. I dislike when someone calls a new member with only a few posts a troll. Totally unacceptable. The person making the statement should have his account restricted to a few posts a day. It's not good for business. It's like if I owned a restaurant and had a regular customer hanging out telling new customers who walk in how bad the food is. I'd tell him to shut up or take his business elsewhere. No need for people who drive business away.

I've been trying to get away from cold all year. Left Maine, Calgary, Denver and ended up in SoCal. I'm still freezing. Damn. I never used to wear thermal underwear (even in Canada) and now I do . Winter is winter. Ya, peanut butter and wheat bread is the best, but after a few months of it it just isn't the same. I need a good steak.

February 2011 KM - no more daily text before service
by Red Piller inheard this today from a good source.
my guess everybody is delaying leaving the service meeting - and this is an attempt to fix this.. that's what i see in our service groups - no one is in any rush to go out (again).

Anyone still feeling apprehensive about celebrating Christmas?
by Think About It injust go ahead and do it in some way if you like.
put off the wts thinking and enjoy your family and life.
it's really no big deal.

I always disliked christmas as a kid, long before I even became a JW. Maybe it was cause I didn't get what I wanted. I wanted stuff I could use to have fun but only got clothes and encyclopedias. The jw kind of fit in my thinking on that one. Nowadays, if I can find a good party..sure I'll celebrate...

What proportion of Jehovah's Witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?
by stapler99 inin another thread it was being discussed how inefficient the door-to-door preaching is, and i thought this raised an interesting question - what proportion of jehovah's witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?.
in my experience, i can think of two or three people that my parents have studied with and who were later baptized.
but i know of so few baptisms that it is hard for me to think about it.

The witnesses are not programmed to actually convert anyone, their job is to warn people, if someone joins thats a plus. Most witnesses don't tend to think that if they have 0 converts that it is due to their doctrine. However, it would be safe to say that because of their doctrines they believe not many will join.

Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 Winter Tires
by Simon inso, after 3 and a bit winters in canada i finally invested in a set of winter tires.
up till now i've had a good set of all-seasons (goodyear assurance tripletred) and they have been very good even coping with a sudden calgary freeze last winter that saw accordian buses sliding back down the hill we were on (scary!
) and general chaos on the roads.. but, driving on the deerfoot on solid polished sheets of black-ice in rush-hour traffic is not nice and you could feel the car getting more than a little vague at times.

Tires definitely make a big difference in winter. I used to keep my all seasons all year, but one time I changed to winter tires, man, what a difference. After that I was sold to winter tires. They can be a little noisy when on pavement but I learned to live with that. So Calgary got hammered I heard. I had to get out of Canada once again, just can't take the cold anymore.
