I always disliked christmas as a kid, long before I even became a JW. Maybe it was cause I didn't get what I wanted. I wanted stuff I could use to have fun but only got clothes and encyclopedias. The jw kind of fit in my thinking on that one. Nowadays, if I can find a good party..sure I'll celebrate...

What proportion of Jehovah's Witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?
by stapler99 inin another thread it was being discussed how inefficient the door-to-door preaching is, and i thought this raised an interesting question - what proportion of jehovah's witnesses will make a convert in their lifetime?.
in my experience, i can think of two or three people that my parents have studied with and who were later baptized.
but i know of so few baptisms that it is hard for me to think about it.

The witnesses are not programmed to actually convert anyone, their job is to warn people, if someone joins thats a plus. Most witnesses don't tend to think that if they have 0 converts that it is due to their doctrine. However, it would be safe to say that because of their doctrines they believe not many will join.

Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 Winter Tires
by Simon inso, after 3 and a bit winters in canada i finally invested in a set of winter tires.
up till now i've had a good set of all-seasons (goodyear assurance tripletred) and they have been very good even coping with a sudden calgary freeze last winter that saw accordian buses sliding back down the hill we were on (scary!
) and general chaos on the roads.. but, driving on the deerfoot on solid polished sheets of black-ice in rush-hour traffic is not nice and you could feel the car getting more than a little vague at times.

Tires definitely make a big difference in winter. I used to keep my all seasons all year, but one time I changed to winter tires, man, what a difference. After that I was sold to winter tires. They can be a little noisy when on pavement but I learned to live with that. So Calgary got hammered I heard. I had to get out of Canada once again, just can't take the cold anymore.

You can tell them politely that you need your space, time to think and sort things by yourself. What's wrong with that?

Do JW's read other books?
by InterestedOne inwhen i ask my jw friend if she has read various classic books, she says, "i don't like to read.
" however, she of course reads all the wt stuff.
i don't know too many jw's, but the ones i have seen in the meetings seem mostly uneducated and, even when speaking from the platform, seem almost illiterate - that is, unable to pronounce certain words even in the wt literature.

I love to read, one thing is for sure, I was not an avid reader of their stuff. I'd start reading a watchtower or awake and couldn't finish it. I got bored reading their literature, really bored. I tried so many times to try and read one of their books cover to cover, but was never able to do it.
I really wanted that four year degree..

North Korea just attacked South Korea, wonder where this will head........
by miseryloveselders inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40329269/ns/world_news-asiapacific/.
seoul north korea bombarded a south korean island with dozens of artillery shells tuesday in one of the fiercest attacks on its neighbor since the korean war ended in 1953.. .
there's more to the story, but copying and pasting was somewhat awkward.

definitely george w bush and the republicans have the balls to accuse obama for how bad things are... it's going to take years to undo what he did.
