what you reward you tend to get more of.. what you punish tends to atrophy.. the balance between a good act and a bad one consists of the consequences.. society has found many ways to treat bad behavior.
the worst being imprisonment and execution (if not torture) for high crimes.. but, there is a core philosophy among altruists and christians of a certain stripe who advocate forgiveness.. so, we ask the question : does forgiveness make any sense?.
when we do harm we cause an effect.. the effect injures others or their property.. to restore what is harmed a system of justice has developed to deal with administering the pressure toward restoration (when possible).. fines, community service, reparation for damages all constitute that restoration process.. insurance companies act as brokers in the case of "accidental" causes and effects and their remedy.. but, in the realm of religion the principle of forgiveness rears its ugly head!.
just testing the new web browser (spent the day downgrading vista to xp... (i use the term 'downgrade' loosely)).
does it format paragraphs correctly?.
does it indent quotes?.
Didn't read.

it's been a long time since i posted here but i often read your messages when ian (dansk) logs on.
as most of you will know, ian will be going back into hospital on monday for an allogeneic stem cell transplant and will be away from the forum for a good few weeks (hopefully he'll be back home within 4-6 weeks).
last time he was in hospital many of you sent messages to his ward and i know they cheered him up immensely.

if we cut out all the crap, the jehovah's witness religion kills people through their 'blood' policy.
people die from following it.. therefore i am ashamed to say that i was part of it for so long.
i used to say, as many who are still in still do, that it's not a bad way of life.. yes it is.
You do what you can live with. Some people can't live without their families and continue to attend meetings and stay in go standing. Knowing the truth about the truth. There are many here that will help you through your journey. However you leave the cult it is not easy and there are risks. Just remember there is always some here to talk to, you are not alone.

religion has taught that without a belief in god and in absolute standards there is no genuine moral conduct.
but for many alive today who do not hold a belief in god, is a moral and good life possible?.
not to be confused with sin, which is essentially a religous idea defined as disobedience to god, morality concerns itself with observed consequences, so a wrong act can be determined by the effect or harm it causes to others.. for example religion teaches that in the eyes of god homosexuality is wrong.
IMHO, Society would be more moral without religion, my view is tainted from being in a distinctive cult.

Does it matter? It's the same parking lot. Between the two in the back by the freeway.

i was talking to a friend of mine about perfection last night.. he made a comment that there was no way to have perfection, unless you made one thing and set that as perfect.
everything after that would be a copy and otherwise would always in some way fall short of perfect, the original creation.
we were talking about art.. and then he made a comment that god did not create us perfectly.
inborn tendency toward wickedness
F*ing wack jobs. There are bad people and there are good people. It would fit in a bell curve with a few very good and a few very bad and the rest of us.

wal-mart announced that, sometime in 2007, it will begin offering customers a new discount item ---- wal-mart's own brand of wine.
the world's largest retail chain is teaming up with ernest & julio gallo winery of california to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2 - $5 range.
wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to put a bottle of wal-mart brand into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for inexpensive wine," said kathy micken, professor of marketing at university of arkansas, bentonville.
I hate F'ing WalMart! WalMart reminds me of the Watchtower Society. This is true, I was at WalMart and one of the employees was trying preach to another, when the second employee expressed his dislike for being preached to at work (using some expletives) the management called the police and had him taken away. Sounds like a cult to me. . Philip
