I got all excited and then realized you meant Vancouver BC . I know we're much smaller and unsophisticated, but if you end up in the OTHER Vancouver (Washington State) I'd love to meet up!

divorce is much more common in the jehovah's witness community than they would like to admit.
probably more so than the population in general.
if you have been divorced do you think that the watchtower society contributed to the divorce, or caused it, or is it just possible you married some jerk or abuser and divorce would have occured no matter what religion you were, or even if you had no religion?
I married someone I would never and should never have been with. Not a bad guy, incredibly weak and a crossdresser (and quite possibly gay) to boot, but still an ok guy, just the wrong guy for me. So in as much as the WTS was the cause of my unfortunate marriage, I suppose it could be said they caused the divorce. Though I prefer to take the credit for that myself!

the dems are tearing themselves apart hillary will not go down with out a fight and obama is nothing but fluff..."members of congress the president of the united states john mccain....(roaring cheers)...dems don't know when to stop and hillary will take the entire dem party down with her mark my words...
Hmm, what an interesting perspective. I'm looking forward to see how it actually plays out.

were most witnesses very intelligent, in your honest opinion?
To me it's not about intelligence as much as being able to reason and be willing to question, to not accept things at face value. No matter how intelligent you are, if you choose to believe that the earth is flat, no one will be able to convince you otherwise. Others have said it as well, deliberate blind ignorance. They've set up their boundaries for the world and whether there are things going on outside the boundaries doesn't matter. To their minds, those things don't exist.
That being said, I think there are personalities that are more inclined to choose that pattern of thinking and processing than others. Some people WANT to be told what to do, how to think, who to be. It's just more comfortable and less threatening for them. *shrug* Most fundamentalist religions are brimful of those kinds of personalities.

i received an email from my sister in law.
she was relating an experience given in a talk at an assembly.
a young couple wanted to have children, but they couldn't conceive, so they decided to adopt a child.
Oh YUCK!!! Not THIS one again!! Honestly someone should collect all this bulls*** together so we can just pull it out and read it along with them when someone starts reciting one of them again!

for me - rarely would be the correct word.
i don't miss the indoctrination.
i don't miss the wasted time in service.
Nope, in fact I'm profoundly and constantly thankful to be out of it.

so.... on top of everything else i have gone through from this cult..... my mother has moved in with us because her apartment with the jw landlords flooded and they could not be bothered to fix it.
so, as a good christian daughter and son-in-law, we didn't bat an eyelash about collecting her and her belongings and incorporating her into our family.
when she needed help moving out, nary a jw showed up to help, nor did they bring an empty box - nothing...... it was my husband (worldy) and i (df'd apostate type).
I'm going to agree with Gopher on this one. Was your mom trying to show you what good guys the elders are by expressing concern that you and your husband would beat her and they'd protect you?? If so, I don't think that was the best way to demonstrate their good intentions...

yeah, a no brainer.
i'm living with my da'd brother and never passed my new info on to the brothers when i left so i thought at first my mom (who is still firmly in the cult) had passed the address on to the local wolves, but apparently it was just the usual saturday morning not at homes being bothered.
i watched them pull into the neighborhood and pegged them straightaway for dubs.

I watched them pull into the neighborhood and pegged them straightaway for dubs. I actually knew the guy who came to the door. I used to be friends with his daughter long ago in a universe far far away. Of course I was still in my pajamas with bedhead having just woken up (my seven year old is staying with his dad so I actually got to sleep in for once) so I just watched through the blinds, feeling very very weird and a little nervous. I hate that they still have that effect on me, but considering 36 years of brainwashing I'm not surprised...

i'd like you all to tell me 2 or 3 things:.
1- were you raised a witness or not?.
2-if you were, was your family very "theocratic" or not so much?.
Yes
Theocratic
atheist

in the field service, i never rang the door bell.
i would knock all the time, because a person could be working midnight to eight and i could wake them up.
ok, the real reason was that i didn't want them to answer the door.. and i would knock like this: "knock knock knock".......then i'd wait about 30 seconds and then another "knock knock knock" but not any harder...and i'd walk away with contentment.
Depended on how big of a nutjob I was partnered with. If it was a crazed drone, I did the minimum I could get away with. If I was by myself or with another wannabe escapee from the Borg, I would knock as softly as possible or not at all and hold my breath as I skittered away from the door!
