Is there a JWD mindset?
by beginnersmind innot sure if this is the correct place to post this but i thought it would be better in here out of the choices.
the title was to hopefully make you at least be interested in this post whereas the politically correct non generalised question might be "is there a mindset of some on jwd?.
a while back i was browsing the forums and 2 posts stood out.

Thanks again for all your replies.
Leolaia i know what you mean about comparing any two threads giving different results. I know to have been more accurate the same people should have posted in both threads but that would have been very unlikely. I guess i was just making an observation from those two threads and throwing it out in a general way. Not scientific but i thought an interesting question to ask what others felt about it.
Reefton Jack good proverb. I think i read that in a former post of yours with another one that escapes me at the minute.
greendawn thanks for your observation. I think if there were more JW's here to argue their case from what ive observed that is what the discussion would end up being an argument.
Outlaw so anybody who doesnt agree with you is a dimwit? lol you sure you havent carried anything over from JW's assuming that you were one and arent anymore?
Hortensia picking up on what you said in your first paragraph was kind of also in my mind when i posed the question.
Just to be a bit clearer on what i was asking. Obviously everyone is different but as a fairly high percentage on here are ex-JW's and carry over a negative experience (baggage) some to a higher degree than others and even hatred for the religion, they share something in common. From a psychological point of view wouldnt that make them more likely to accept negative info about JW's and "filter out" (quoted from Greendawn) any positive info therefore having a particular mindset even if it is a general one? I wasnt stating an opinion on wether i think this is good or bad just purely from psychological viewpoint. Maybe if i asked the question in a general way and changed JW to some other religion/cult therefore removing any baggage and it being about 'me' i might get a different viewpoint from some?
I think its only fair to give a brief description of my 'baggage'. In the 'truth' for a number of decades. Didnt fade just stopped going some months ago and havent been to a meeting since. I dont know wether that makes me just an inactive JW or an ex-JW as ive not ben disfellowshipped or disassociated. I dont carry any hatred or bitterness but i dont know wether that will change or not in the future.

cultswatter If it was fact that as you say 99% of JW doctine is lies then that in itself isnt proof that a piece of information is correct and the truth is it? Every single bit of information should be evaluated individually on its own merits is all im saying.
DJK This is a jehovahs witness discussion forum and the point that the blood policy was a publicity stunt i would have thought would have been high up the interest or impotance chart but i take your point.
Tuesday Of course you dont have to source if you give an opinion as the one with the opinion is the source but i take your point. It was a while ago that i read the post and your comment has refreshed my mind a bit. Maybe the actual phrase "publicity stunt" wasnt in the book but what was quoted from it was basically saying it was a publicity stunt and thats why that phrase was said. The book i think was Edmond C. Gruss - The Four Presidents of the Watch Tower Society.

A while back i was browsing the forums and 2 posts stood out. One was talking about the blood banning policy and that someone had read in a book that it came about purely as a publicity stunt. Now to me if that was true it would be huge and i think it would take some major concrete proof for me to believe it. The posts on the thread about this were in acceptance or positive of this information no questions asked and nobody raised any doubt. Another one the same day was about Michael Jackson and i think it was about going into a hospital or something and one of the very first posts was "where did you hear that"? "Whats your source?" etc ie doubting the post.
I asked myself why is it ones will not question something which if its the truth is a major thing and surely would need a lot of proof but on the other hand ones will question something of relatively little importance? Is it a mindset of more willing to accept negative info about the JW's? Im interested in the psychology of it all so if you have any thoughts on it please post. Please note im only asking a question which i asked myself and i find interesting not accusing everybody of this.

reasoning
by BR25 ini read most of the posts on here and i was just trying to get an understanding on certain topics.
i read some peoples material and why they dont believe in the jw faith.
i understand that some people left the jw faith and some people on here may never have been jws or believed in it, so i understand why you post and give info back and forth, but i have trouble understanding some of the disfellowshipped ones on here.

I do think you make an interesting point although i wouldnt have put it quite like that if i was writing it. I think your post has been slated slightly unfairly as you do say "some who have been disfellowshipped".
My point is most people dont just wake up the next day after being disfellowshipped and automatically stop believing in the jw faith, but then they come on here and try to make it ok, and everyone makes it ok for them which is alright. You can do what you want, but I think alot of disfellowshipped ones come on here to grant themselves some kind of immunity. Like I said before you just dont wake up the next day and stop believing.
However when you make the point above you say "a lot of disfellowshipped ones come on here......." and that doesnt help your cause against generalisation. So while i dont agree with the way youve written it you may be right in what youve said about some. However they are not likely to come on your thread and agree are they?
About this post
How about if a JW husband (rank and file) commits adultry and is disfellowshipped and an Elder commits adultry and is not disfellwshipped.
Or an Elders daughter gets pregant out of wedlock and is not disfellowshipped and a daughter of a R&F gets pregant and is disfellowshipped.
Or an Elders son is caught in a homosexual act and is not disfellowshipped and a R&F's son is and is disfellowshipped...
How right ZeroDay is; each one of these events has occured in my wifes congregation, makes me sick!
So in that congregation all 6 circumstances have happened? So not only do you know the reasons why the 3 rank and file were disfellowshipped you also know that the exact same things were commited by an elder or his son or daughter even though they werent disfellowshipped? Does everybody know everybody elses business in that cong? Must be gossip central. In the cong i was associated with i would say disfellowshippings were an even split between the rank and file and elder/families if not more on the latter. As there were considerably more rank and file than elders/families it meant if you were an elder or a family member you were more likely to be disfellowshipped than a rank and file right? Or is my maths wrong?

3.9% interest
by indahsempurna indoes anyone else find it terrible that the society is charging interest for congregations to build kingdom halls????
why the hell are people putting money in the "special" box marked kingdom hall fund??
my boyfriend who already hates the witnesses found this absolutely horrible.

Can anyone elaborate or point to a more detailed discussion on how this works please? Your telling me that the donations for the Kingdom Hall fund ie what ones give to help congregations less fortunate to have their own halls are in fact loaned to them and not only do they have to pay it back they get charged interest as well??? If thats true i think thats despicable! Also after its all payed up it belongs to the society? I pity my lack of knowledge on this subject.

NEED HELP: What's wrong with CURRENT Borg policy on molestation?
by Open mind inok, first off, please don't shoot the messenger here.
the dateline show on jws hiding pedophiles was one of several "defining moments" in my process of questioning "the truth".
it disgusted me.

Scully i agree 100% with what you say. I was coming from the perspective of a parent whose child was abused by someone in the congregation. Like you say if the parent is the abuser it changes that prespective and if a child reports it to the elders they should do all they can for the protection of the child and they should report it. The difficulty would be to know if the child is lieing or not which is not out of the realms of possibility and the hurt that would cause for the parents. Although I dont think thats for the elders to decide it shows that whatever policy there is innocents will be hurt wether its the child who has been abused or the one falsely accused.
