  Comparing Jesus and Santa

  i recall a quote by the watchtower some years back that said in effect;.

  "if you teach your kids about santa claus, and they find out it was all a lie, they might begin to think that what you taught them about jesus is also a lie.".

  I have friends who do or don't believe in God--I just don't like it if either
  get 'centric about it. Taken to the extreme, that's the real danger as many of
  either kind have shown. Whichever you pick, "proof" or "lie" about God is a
  forced choice that's unfriendly regarding the believer and disrespects what they
  actually do. There's knowing or not that you're doing something in faith in a
  possible God.

  The extremists on either end have more in common than they realize--trying to
  prove there's a God by saying they'll show you the ark of animals or digging in
  the hill to analyze the animal fossils and prove there isn't. It's like they're
  both trying to watch the sun come up by staring intently into the west. It's a
  faith matter.

  If either hurts anyone, I'm with you in being against it. But you want to
  guard against joining the 'centric ones of either group. They're the ones that
  really waste your life.

  Another problem for the WT, Isaiah 44:24

  here's a problem for the wt with their god father and "a god" son theology.. the wt major on proverbs 8 and give the title of "master worker" to jesus and insert the word "[other]" into john 1:3 colossians 1:16 etc.. however, there are plenty of scriptural problems, consider this one.

  I think the most common stance the JWs leaders have used is that nobody could
  imagine phrasing to indicate God's own wisdom personified and sent to people, so
  that can't be what was meant at the time (by John 1:1, etc.), so nobody should
  think it. Except who cares if the JWs leaders say they can't imagine it--they
  did at the time, in the wisdom literature.

  "A redundant and cruel God should inspire no one." True. If all there was
  were the bad things about God or life it wouldn't be worth it, but it is. It's
  the 'centric believers or non-believers make the worst problems of the see-able,
  touchable world--no faith or metaphisics required to know it.

  than belief in God.

  I say take the ones who were on the offense in religious war, not those on the
  defense or a lot of nice believers who didn't take part,
  take the ones who were on the offense in state atheism, not those on the
  defense or a lot of nice non-believers who didn't take part,
  take the ones on the offense regarding race, such as those who lynched African
  Americans or threw them off slave ships like they were just chattel because the
  food supply got low, not those on the defense or who wouldn't take part,
  same with nationality, etc.,

  and gather all those 'centric people together and nothing has caused more
  unnecessary hurt or death in the world than them--people getting too 'centric.
  That's when the walls of alienation go up, and people distrust or even hate
  who's on the other side, and people get hurt or killed, and you don't need that
  any more than I do. I think that focuses more clearly on the problem and
  doesn't mischaracterize a lot of nice people (as by characterizing them by the
  worst of them or as having a hope commitment to be cruel to others or such).

  We're never going to have all the same believers or non-believers, race, etc.
  We can get more relaxed about the differences. That's the real modern, forward
  thinking way for people to get along.

  Mass Murder

  knowing that most people condemn ethnic cleansing and the extermination of the jews, how do you as a jw's rationalise mass murder by god at armageddon?.

  i always had problems reconcilling this and was wondering if anyone really could..

  ^ Ironically, too unbalanced.

  The God concept has to be reconciled with the good AND bad of the world--
  of 1,000 BC, today, or tomorrow--that He's thought to preside over. A purely
  bad characterization would be as much a mischaracterization as characterizing
  the world as just bad. Job wouldn't have found any reason to believe in God or
  just life generally.

  I don't like the law of the land being religion--and you don't want to neglect
  to add state atheism--instead of separation of church and state because I don't
  think people should be hurt or killed over either one (in the case of religion,
  short of a divine intervention, and I haven't seen one). (See the list of links

  Likewise, the JWs leaders are notably controlling and use uniquely harsh
  shunning rules, go beyond faith in the possible God to misusing research sources
  to make specialties seem substantiated, not characteristic of what goes on
  generally or necessary to personal faith.

  To characterize all of religion or faith by the worst examples above glosses
  over Jesus and followers not requiring a country with a militia to defend it or
  people executed if they deflect, to go among the Jews and Gentiles without
  giving offense, sacrificing of the self to gain others for God, etc. The people
  who came along centuries later and made it or Islam the law of the land were a
  regression, not an improvement.

  Faith is a personal choice like subjective freedom about what song you like.
  There is no religious or anti-religious authority who can stop that. The thing
  to worry about as a way people get hurt unnecessarily isn't God or not God,
  this or that nationality, race, etc. It's when people get too 'centric about
  any of them that they show unfair regard or treatment of others that you have to
  worry about them (see the same link as above).
