  i've been watching from the sidelines for a while... reading about your experiences and it has helped me a lot!!!.

  i am a 27 yo girl, i converted into a jw @ 20, at was going thru a difficult time in my life and they bastards sucked me in!!!

  i did not realize how controlling things were going to get... about 1 year into my study i moved w another single sister and then baptize, looking back i think i went thru w baptism because i fell pressure by the "loving" congregation that wanted the best for me... i remember coming out of the pool and one of the brothers saying "another victim" and taking a pic of me... anyways, that wasn't the worst of it.... remember single female!!

  Converts and near-converts, what did you give up for the Watchtower?

  if you're born-in you probably won't understand the subject question.

  maybe you will if you've taken up any bad habits since leaving the watchtower, if you've left at all.

  but if you were a convert (or near-convert, like i was) did you have to change your lifestyle in order to conform to the expectations of the society?.

  now i'm not saying that you need to live a promiscuous life, but for the love of all that is natural, a young person should be able to test the waters as long as they are safe in doing so.

  looking back at the jw mentality of waiting until you get married only blinds the mind and eyes of both parties involved.

  i see this mentality creeping into non jw religions as well, with the "purity ring" concept.

  I think it's creepy that fathers give their daughters these rings as a symbol of a contract of chastity. I can't think of anyone who I would less care to speak to about my sex life than my father. It's just too weird!

  Are You The Type Of Person That Really "Loves" People On This Site?

  i know some here seem to truly be interested in everyone's welfare.

  they seem to be really troubled/happy by another poster's health, life, children, job, sex life, worries, anxieties---you name it, they're very involved in "caring" about people that they hardly know.. i have forged some friendships, i've met some great people on this site.

  i've communicated with many nice people here.

  I care about everyone on JWN, even the trolls, because we all have a shared experience of being under cult mind control. There a few, who I've come to know in real life that I can honestly say I love. CS the Apostate and my beloved SD-7 are very much like my children. EmptyInside is like a baby sister to me. Crazy Blonde B is my kindred spirit. There are others who shall remain nameless for brevity or their privacy.

  This past weekend I lost my mom

  the cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.

  we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.

  how do people move on from such a massive loss?.

  Is there a correlation between personality type and leaving the WT?...

  on facebook tonight there was a post asking to take a personality test, in posting the personality tests a trend started emerging that certain personality types seem to leave around the same time.. i came out as an intj which is introverted intuitive thinking judging.

  My dad wont make it too much longer, advise/experiences needed

  hello all at jwn,.

  so my mom called to tell me that my dad wont be able to come back home, he has been on kidney dialysis (along with having congestive heart failure and diabetes and dimentia...) but now he is breaking down and will have to be admitted to a hospice center for the remainder of his time left (without dialysis wont be two weeks).

  most of you know my situation, faded (not dfd or dad) but most of my family treats me like i am disfellowshipped except my mom and she keeps getting warnings from elders to cut off dealings with me- my dad is inactive but as head of the household he demands that i be able to visit and take care of mom and dad (so my mom must be submissive to his wishes).

  CHG, I'm so sorry you're facing the loss of your father. I can't imagine the pain you're feeling. But please remember that while you're losing your father, your mother is losing her husband.

  Put yourself in your dad's position--wouldn't you want to know about the guy who's so important in your daughter's life? Make your decisions with your Dad in mind, not the others. It ain't about them.

  GLT, while I agree with your sentiments, CHG's father may be very upset that her intended is not a jw. And if she's df'd close to the time of her father's death, her mother is going to suffer even further losses. Now is the ime for CHG to be with her family and lean on CSG in private.
