Could a Cult personality be someone's Authentic Personality
by cantleave inwe all know theory, that a cult personality masks the authentic.
but after reading some of the cult indoctrinated posters here , i am beginning to think that they are showing their authentic personalities.. they don't appear to show any true human emotion or demonstrate any independant thinking ability, ony what they are told feel and think by the cult.
is it possible that some people are born to be cult members in order to survive?.

Excellent question. I wonder about this with my mother, as I have only ever known the cult personality. Is it is really just a cult personality, or was she
attracted to a cult because it suited an already existing personality.
I think the same thing about my mom. Being a jw is the only sense of credibility she ever had. She's unwilling to give that up for anything or anyone.

Fake Movie preview - something I do for fun...
by sd-7 ini used to write some of those on my facebook account.
i'd make up a really bad movie and come up with lines, a title, and throw some explosions in.
because previews are supposed to make the movie look 10 times better than it really is, by showing you all the coolest stuff in like, less than 3 minutes.. i had a crazy thought this morning, of like, a "based on a true story" movie about rutherford and russell.

"All five children are out of the organization. One left a few months ago."
I'm so glad to hear that. I bet Rebecca standing up to that kind of mental torment taught her younger siblings a valuable lesson. For those who are in a similar situation as she was, I say, just live your life and wait patiently. I waited for my precious baby brother for 18 years. My being out that long gave me the opportunity to help him make the transition when he decided to leave the cult. Our uber-dub mother shuns both of us now, but he's doing great!

New here - hello!
by sickandtired ini can't believe i'm actually posting here.
i've been lurking for a while and i've been having doubts about this being the "truth" for years and sometimes feel really stuck and hopeless about my situation.
i'm married to an elder (who is 110% jw) and i was for the most part raised in the "truth".

I worry because so many that I have seen fade, DF, DA (whatever) or even just go inactive (guess that could be a fade), DO NOT seem to go on to happier, more meaningful or successful lives. Instead, the majority of our friends in this situation are now divorced; their kids got pregnant or got someone pregnant; a couple of them have had kids in drug rehab; and they are not more successful (financially) -- the losers are still losers, the winners are still pretty much the same (except some gave a lot of their accumulated wealth to two attorneys).
DoC, wow, the possibilities are endless.
First, how many of those who have left know the truth about the "truth"? The ones who haven't learned it yet are set up to experience a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure, because they haven't overcome the cult indoctrination.
Second, problems like divorce, unwed maternity, drug and alcohol usage occur within the organization, but it is hidden for fear of gossip and punishment.
Third, just because a da'd, df'd or faded person's problems are out in the open, it doesn't mean they're necessarily unhappy. While married to my jw husband, I withstood constant physical abuse and mental terror. In trying to "be a better wife", I kept those things hidden from the congregation at large. But when I finally had the comon sense and courage to divorce him, I was very happy.
IMO, you really are seeing what you're seeing, but you're not looking at the full picture.

Please don't talk to the elders again, because it will increase your chances of being df'd for apostasy. Just keep up the "I need to think about it for a while", so you'll have a little more time to work on your mother. Even if she doesn't come around before you da or are df'd, she may have a change of heart when she ses how happy you are to be free.

The effect we are having on the Watchtower is HUGE
by jwfacts ini was inspired by a recent thread i know i aint gunna crumble the wt, but a girl can dream to look at the effect we as individuals are having on the watchtower society.. 3dogs1husband quoted a story to show that even helping only one person is worth it.. it is encouraging to note that the one person you may have helped has lead to millions being helped, due to the power of compounding growth.. compounding growth is well illustrated by the rice on a chessboard problem.
if you start with 1 grain of rice on square one, and double it to 2 on the second, 4 on the third, 8 on the fourth, by the last (64th) square there would be 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.. likewise, if you help one person out of the grip of the watchtower this year, then next year you help one more and they help one, in a few years that is going to have a formidable result on the number of jehovahs witnesses.
look at the following statistics.

Basically every time any innocent or normal person gets DFd and non-Borg people find out, it's a really bad witness. They tell others, who are disgusted by it.
So truem Rebel. Every one of my non-jw relatives will have nothing to do with the Watchtower due to the circumstances of my df'ing.

Trying to Fade, Now they want to interview me on the SAD!!!
by burnedout ini resigned as an elder some time ago, have been working on fading, the wife is getting used to the new 'me' (not stressed, better husband and father, etc.
), been missing a lot of meetings... even received a few statements such as: 'hi burnedout, it's good to see you!!!
last sunday, i took my one of my sons to the local dragstrip to show him the races, oops missed the meeting.
-
jamiebowers
By doing this interview, you will be encouraging others to bring their children up in this cult. Bad idea when you're taking your kid to the drag races instead of the kh. Don't let them drag you back in with this imagined "privilege". And I can just hear the jealousy dripping off of the tongue of that sister who overheard the conversation between the elder and your wife. Be very careful...that sister will probably be watching you in order to find a reason that she should be ding the interview instead of you.

Update #1
The elder came, saw, and left. Victor? Logic and reason.
I refuted every single point. Not to puff myself, just that I was able to respectfuly stand my ground.
Here comes round 2. My mother asked for a more "knowledgable" elder to come. I await his coming, knowing truth and conviction cannot be defeated. This is last round, and I know I won.
More updates as I can.
Good luck on these "spiritual boxing matches"!
