From what I've heard, whether you da or are df'd, the announcement made is, "So and So is no longer a jw," so the result of shunning is the same.

I have to agree with S&R...sounds like a herniated disc in the back is pressing on your sciatic nerve. I've had the same problem for 30 years. Because a doctor tried to bully me into having back surgery many years ago, I avoided getting treatment. Now the nerve damage is permanent, and I don't have full use of my left leg. If I have to walk any distance or stand for long periods, I use a wheelchair.
There are now many alternatives to surgery. Please pursue them. I don't pray anymore, but my positive thoughts for healing are certainly sent your way.

by MsGrowingGirl20 ini'm on page 90 right now...the info is definitely new and gives me a totally diff view as to how i used to think of faithful and discreet slave.
i was thoroughly disgusted with the way the brothers handled the oral sex and leadership problem and the insight on the scriptures book...... still have alot of questions though.

Welcome to JWN! This is the place to describe how you're feeling about what you're learning. Please don't do it with your jw family and friends until you've decided the best course for your life. Many have stood in your stead and can advise you.
I'm curious as to why you're reading CoC. Please let us know as long as it's not a violation of privacy. Hope to hear lots more from you soon!

"You should never look for/expect happiness in this world"
by ilikecheese inmy jw boyfriend says this all the time whenever i'm venting about life and some of its disappointments, career aspirations and how hard they are to make happen sometimes, problems with friends/family, or just random stuff that gets to me.
i'm not a negative person or anything; i only get moody occasionally.
i am a woman; it's kind of required.

You should never look for/expect happiness in this world
Please be aware that the Watchtower pounds this thinking into jw brains, because it is a way to get them to spend most of their time and effort on the cult and nothing else. Please don't marry or have children with this guy until he is sure about the Watchtower. You think it's a drag now; having him think that he's your head and/or he has to save your children from Armageddon would be a whole lot worse!

I would be making up for the almost quarter of a century that my mom has shunned me by helping deprogram from the cult.

"NEW LIGHT" FROM BROTHER WALDO D/O SANTA MARIA ,CALIFORNIA 1/22/2012 "HOW JEHOVAH IS LIKE BROTHERS ACCUSED OF BEING A CHILD MOLESTER!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis ini was shocked to hear how the slander against jehovah's name that we see in the world can be compared to a good man accused of being a child molester.
he went on to describe how terrible such an accusation would be, and how "friends" of the accused would know he's not capable of such an act and would rally to his defense.
at several points in the talk, he refers back to the child molester "example" and how eventually, despite the hideous slander heaped on a man in this situation (depicting jehovah in the bigger picture, we assume), that man's good reputation would be restored.

I think it's a prelude to some news. I remember that happened back in 2002? when it was on NBC. I remmeber the talks from the podium before it aired. I joked back then that the meeting was going to be sparse as they will all be watching the expose' of hiding Child molesters in the congregation.
I hope you're correct on this. Even if another scandal doesn't wake up the rank and file, at least current child molestation victims may find the courage to come forward.

If what he said in a Washington Post interview last week is true, he was used as a scapegoat. He claimed that all McQueery told him was that he caught Sandusky in the shower with a young boy. Paterno reported it to higher ups at Penn State, which is what he was supposed to do. In the meantime, he was pissed at Sandusky for spending too much time with the charity and not with coaching.
Paterno also said that at the time he wasn't even aware that boys could be raped. This rings true to me, because my dad, who is 11 years younger, asked me several years ago about male homosexual sex. He was shocked when I told him about anal sex. It never dawned on him that men would do that to each other.
Paterno ended the interview by saying that the children were the victims in this situation, not him. He also said that he was sorry for what had happened and would've done more if he would've understood what was really going on with Sandusky.
Look, I hate child molestation cover ups just as much as the next person, maybe even moreso since it happened to me. But from what I've read, Paterno was ignorant of the facts about Sandusky and about molestation of little boys in general.
