So far the only decoration we've done for Halloween is a dummy. My husband took an old pair of jeans and work shirt and stuffed them with leaves. The ends of the sleeves go into a pair of work gloves, and the pant legs go into an old pair of work boots. The head is a basketball wrapped in black electrical tape, and the face is drawn with white auto body touch up paint. He's perched on a lawn chair at the front of our house. For some reason kids find it fascinating and are usually more interested in it than candy.
This year we're also going to cut different shaped eyes into toilet paper rolls and insert glow sticks to put in the bush and trees in our yard. I found the idea on Facebook, and it really looks creepy! We usually have about 500 kids for trick or treat, because the Kiwanis Club has a cake walk afterwards. We may not have as many this year, because it is going to be held on a different day.

Secret Watchtower Letter: PARENTS HAVE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHILD'S SAFETY
by steve2 inin a separate thread, cedar's response to the watchtower's hot-off-the-secret-press-to-elders letter on child abuse is featured.
cedar's article is a powerful, well-composed overview of that letter.. tellingly, in the watchtower letter you will not find any direct exhortation requiring parents to first go to the elders when their child discloses sex abuse.
no, the watchtower is much too clever to directly state what parents should or should not do.

What really galls me about this letter is that the Watchtower says that it is the responsibility of parents for a child's safety all the while refusing to warn parents of the predators in their midst.

The best way to help any JW out is to remain active
by Most Noble inattacking from the outside will always prove to be unproductive.
it is more effective to remain inside the domain while raising people's consciousness and letting them see all the flaws behind the farce.
i have tried it and i have gotten 47 people out in 6 months, while i am still seen as a publisher in good standing.. .

JWN's Tuesday, AKA Tim Kilgore on Youtube stopped counting at 400 for the number of people he helped out of the Watchtower cult. And he did it while outside of the organization.

@Z-Monster:
I have lurked on this site and its predecessor since shortly after the U.N. fiasco. Oompa's story is very moving. I cannot imagine how much intestinal fortitude it took for him to get out of bed every morning. To all of Oompa's friends and family, you have my deepest sympathy, May he finally be at peace.
Welcome to JWN! Oompa would be thrilled that you've been reading here and that he prompted your first post here!

Thanks for starting this thread. After having cried for three solid days, I started thinking about some of the funny things Oompa used to say. The one that cracked me up the most was when he bought a cellphone specifically to talk to ex and exiting jws. He called it his apostaphone, and he talked on it in his apostatruck.

Stop fighting about Oompa.
by Robert7 ini am writing this because i am so upset about the bickering and fighting that is going on about oompa.
this was an amazing wonderful, peaceful, giving man who never met a strager who is now deceased and you are taking his name and running all over the place with it using it for your own agendas.
he is not a statistic.

@FlyingHighNow:
Our mental health system is horribly inadequate. It is tragically inadequate. They failed Oompa, Stacey, you did not.
Stacey, she's entirely correct. Oompa should've never been released from the hospital so soon.
You first sought this board for relief from the Watchtower and met Oompa. Now you're coming full circle by using this board for solace from your grief and to share insight into his life and tragic death. You are more than welcome here, and I want thank you for your boundless friendship to a man that many of us cared about.

Thanks Wes and Stacey. I didn't know Oompa nearly as well as you did, but it wasn't difficult to understand that he was as fragile as he was friendly and as lonely as he was loving. He just couldn't recover from the loss of his family. I'm so sorry for your grief.
