I agree. The letters were nothing special, just typical Jehovah values you now go out and preach type things. They read like a Watchtower article.

Another J W e mail
by NikL ini noticed another thread on this site relaying a stupid e mail making the rounds of dubdom.. well i just got this one and i thought i would share.... powerful illustration.
after the prayer, the local elder slowly stood up, walked up to the.
platform and, before he gave his public talk, he briefly introduced a guest.

It looks like somebody's playing a cruel joke on the JWs. I originally saw this e-mail years ago in a non-JW form. It was about a preacher and a traveling preacher. Somebody must have changed preacher for elder and added the CO part to it. Unfortunately, many a JW will eat this up with out thinking. This is what the e-mail looks like in it's original form.

I was actually thinking about starting this topic yesterday. I hope he's okay. He's probably been very busy with all the drama that I'm sure he's being having to go through.

How to make a false prophecy
by Norm inwhat happened with the 6000 years?.
jehovah's witnesses are generally very ignorant about the watchtower society history.
most of them would benefit greatly from reading older issues of the watchtower and other literature published by the society in earlier years.

I wonder how long it'll be before most JWs start saying that the society never taught that the people alive during 1914 would see Armageddon? I think the generation teaching might end up like the 1975 doctrine. The old timers will remember it, but the new recruits won't find out about it until somebody brings it up in the door to door work. And thus the cycle will repeat once again.

good in jehovah's witnesses
by John Doe ini thought it might be nice to see some positive things mentioned about jw's.
now, i know mentioning these things may be hard given the experiences here, but i've yet to find a group of people who don't have something positive about them.
if there weren't something positive, no one would ever join.

Yeah, expect a backlash, John. There's a lot of negativity here about the Witnesses. I suppose it's to be expected from a site composed almost entirely of former members. I personally prefer posts from members that don't harbor such nastiness and hatred in their hearts. It reminds me a lot of the mentality that a lot of Witnesses had when they talked about the "world." I'm quite put off by it, to be blunt.
Some of the best people I have ever known are Jehovah's Witnesses (including my parents). Some of the worst people I've ever met are also Jehovah's Witnesses. There are good and bad things to be found in any group. It's too bad that some people are blinded by the rage and hatred that they still harbor in their hearts to the point that they can't see this. I don't understand why people act as if every active JW is an evil demon. The people are being misled by a religious ideology that we once bought into ourselves. If we're going to call them evil just because they're JW, then by definition we were evil ourselves when we were practicing members. I don't buy it. There are a lot of really sincere people trapped in the religion. A lot of them don't like to have to follow along with their teachings, but they think they are being obedient to God by doing so. I hope they all eventually wake up and see the light. I also hope that a lot of the posters here wake up and realize that not every JW is an evil person. Certainly a great deal of them are, but we shouldn't just throw a blanket over them and denounce each and every one of them at an individual level.

The Wave: A short movie about mind control
by neverendingjourney inthis is a very good short movie about how mind control works.
it's based on a true story of a high school teacher that started his own cultish student organization modeled after the nazis.
it's very easy to see the parallels with jws.

That's fascinating stuff. I once heard that Mr. Jones was fired by the school for his experiment. I wonder if there's any truth to that.

There is a parallel with the JW religion to everything presented in the movie. The only exception I could see is physical violence against dissenters, but that's only because the government prohibits it. If not, I'm sure that would be used as well. They could probably find some justification for it in the Bible.

This is a very good short movie about how mind control works. It's based on a true story of a high school teacher that started his own cultish student organization modeled after the Nazis. It's very easy to see the parallels with JWs. It's an excellent way of seeing how mind control works. Of course, the movie is a little cheesy and isn't particularly well acted. It was part of ABC's After School Special series that ran on U.S. television years ago. I saw this movie years after it originally ran when I was in school. It made an impact on me, but I never made the connection with the JW religion. The similarities are obvious to me now.

What's the story with the pyramid? I've heard some people imply that it was built per Russell's instructions and I've heard other people say that it was built by dissident JWs that were kicked out of the Watchtower by Rutherford. Does anyone know for sure?
