Signs of the Times

hi all, i haven't been around a lot, mostly due to study commitments.

the course is going well although i got very stressed out last year at the workload and have decided to take more breaks and take longer to finish it.

i'm looking at seven years at the mo!

for me talking about the signs of the time is no fun. its because the average witness would never realize that in any century and in any time the people would have felt alike. russel thought the 19th century is worse and noone could ever reason about it that its not the last times. in the middleage the people feared the end of the world. as a fact the todays western population is in (relative) health, peace and unity. we have food, we have water, we have peace, no cold war. of course if you lived in the middle east you may feel otherwise. but this was the case in all centuries. the *only* thing that changed is the technology. we have greater weapons, higher lifestyle, better communications and so on. but essentially we could be as dumb as in the 19th century russel was. the REAL last days may occur in a 1000 years when humans nearly destroy earth in a battle between mars and earth and the big railgun =D j/k i guess you know what i mean. there isnt a sign which is so clearly that you cant debate on it. its always in the eye of the watcher. and of course there is no increase in earthquakes. i guess that rules everything else out. marc

Talk on Congress

ive been attended (i do not know the english word for it) the last smaller-than-district-two-days-congress and their was a "joke" from the overseer in a talk i got sick of.

he talked about guys he has talked to in fieldservice (but i guess its completely made up).

he asked them what their god is.

haha! oh my =) of course i meant assembly! its just that in my language its called "congress" - lol. we dont think political by the word congress =) i tried to correct this in my post, but the forum just gives me errors :(

the first guy showed him his house and the second his harley davidson.
he continued by saying that these gods will lead to death in armageddon and how dumb it is to refuse the JW god.
and then he made a joke.
the harley-davidson guy will get killed in armageddon, but his harley davidson will survive HAHAHAHAHAHA

the whole crowd died of laugther.

for myself i thought: what will god and jesus think of this? god said he feels pain for any human regardless how wrong he is. and this overseer LAUGHS about the death of one of gods children. its not that they admit it and say its righteous. THEY LAUGH!
when will they stop? when his (the harley man) 4 year old kid who never had the chance to understand the bible inflames to a living torch? or do they laugh because his toys will get into the new system?

i remember myself laughing about such inhuman bullshit when i was younger. and i know many witnesses telling similar jokes.

its a spit in gods face to laugh about such things. and jws are the guys who avoid blood for false reasons because they want to honor the gift of life. its all about death, death, death. nothing more.

im sick of it.

Was this an "experience" or an urban legend?

i remember this story being told in the 1970's, back when nathan homer snore knorr was the wts president.

this story was probably told at the hall, or perhaps at a jw gathering.

that part is a little fuzzy, but the details of this story remain clear.. two "brothers" were preaching door to door in new york city.

ive heard that one too. not long time ago ... ~1995 or something. but i do not remember which president it was for me.
i only remember the whole hall in loud laughter.

MEMORIAL Q: How does WT Explain Away 1 Cor. 10:17?

since the wt is "famous" for having a "ready answer" to every scripture that proves them wrong, what is the "official wt teaching" on 1 cor.

"14 therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

15 i speak as to men with discernment; judge for yourselves what i say.

thats impressiv to me. i always would have used Matthew 5:5 to "proove" that there must be two classes.

i dont get it abbagail.
you basically say the gentiles will reign over the jews?! or who in fact will have the earthly hope?
sorry, but for it sounds very weired and not refreshing. can you explain it for me a second time? =)

one thought pops into my mind anytime i read about these things.
is it logical to believe that the bible is so uncertain about its message when god sent it to us to SAVE us because he DONT want ANY of us to die? why have nearly 2000 years of bible interpretation didnt established a perfect view of the things?

for me it looks like the bible should be so easy, when god wants us to be saved (in the case the jws were right):

"THE HOLY BIBLE. Chapter 1 (of 1):
come on guys, here are the facts:
1. jehovah god is god
2. jesus is his son - two beings. he died for our sins.
3. the holy spirit is no person, but gods force.
4. we have 2 classes here. one are have heavenly hope other earthly.
5. the earth class is bigger and will show up when the end is near.
6. the heaven class will reign over paradise with jesus.
7. the individual knows to which class he/she belongs.
8. dont celebrate or use any pagan things or celebrations. only celebrate the last supper (bread and wine to remember the son once in a year - earthly hopers dont partake)
9. love your next like yourself (rules out all sins)
10. go preaching this message
11. dont use blood - even not for future uses of blood (only if you split it up before)
12. a new organisation will show up in the end - follow them even if they do unchristian things.

no seriously. i would expect that IMPORTANT letter more specific. hey look at the facts. EVEN the CHOSEN GODS ORGANISATION dont get the bible completely and has to change the doctrines continously.

i know what you mean. many comments on this forum doesnt seem to be intelligent. some of them are just hateful fun about a religion. such comments are a kind of rubbish with no real sense - true. we all know that. additionally some of the comments seem to suggest things that are most-likely not better than the corresponding jw doctrine.

but consider this:
the user of this forum are in a great number disappointed of the jehovahs witnesses. they were hurt, they dislike the cult to a certain degree. so it comes they dont post *always* serious debates but also jokes, fun and stuff that isnt completely deepthought. we can add the fact that there is no organisation called "ex-jws" with a belief system. anyone who left the jw became someone else. let it be an atheist, another type of christian or whatever. some are so disappointed of everything that they just dont believe in anything at all and just live their lifes.

you need to ask for reasoning on a certain subject. what *may* be the truth about a certain bible passage or stuff. dont expect a biblical or non-biblical perfect reasoning on any subject automatically. its not a religion here. its just a forum =)

this statement was often echeod to me during my formative years.

i remember my very first day of elementary school (stateside) at the age of 4. my parents were flustered because they couldn't believe they actually had to start their only child into public school to begin with; after all, the end was right around the corner!

this was 1984, the year the first apple mac was introduced, 80's music was loud and in your face, the delorean was cool, and miami vice was just in production.

my parents didnt really discourage me to go to school or college (but neither they courages me - so i didnt go to college... even with my good grades lol), BUT
i remember my mum telling me over and over again when i was like 5 that she doesnt think i would see highschool in this system and it seems like a fact to her that i would never go to work. but here i am awaiting the big 30 with my wife and my job.
