Wells was a CO but sub DO'd a lot I believe. Goff actually served one time as our DO for the CA... he even commented on it.... how he was gone all the time...once out of the 3 years this was his district. (midwest)

Does anyone recognize the last name "Gamble" for a CO? In my conversation with the 2 sisters yesterday they went on and on about their new CO and how nice he was. I dont know if he is black or his wife is, but I heard they were not the same race (a big deal in this area for years because they never sent black COs and definitely not mixed couples). Younger..I am hearing 40s.

Thankfully my card is not in a congo in the town I live in.. or even the circuit I live in...part of the fade strategy.

uhhh...no one unless you are on deferrment as I am because I went back to school after making about 6 months worth of payments.

Has anyone looked at some of the numbers in the actual HR1 bill? I was trying to find a breakdown of the spending and tax cuts for an economics class but I haven't found one yet. Some numbers are crazy: up to $100 million in matching federal funds for "revitalization of the National Mall" if the private sector coughs up another $100 million. And a whole bunch of money going to National Park Service...hmmmm... a lobbyist for NPS interests has a Sr. VP for Governmental Affairs whose name is Craig Obey..... and the chairman of the Appropriations Committee and primary sponsor of the Stimulus Bill is David Obey. Hmmmm...cooincidence? No. Craig is father to David. Yet they say there is no sting pulling. Craig just asked his buddy congressman who is known for backing NPS projects to put that little bug in his son's ear for him. No direct connection that way.

Crooks. All of them. Change my a$$. Business as usual more like it.

50,000 disfellowshipped, 30,000 reinstated

as mentioned in the thread - http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/171251/1/jws-on-bbc - on the bbc website under the beliefs section they state that "elders disfellowship 50,000 to 60,000 witnesses around the world every year.

each year, however, 30,000 to 40,000 are reinstated having "come back to their spiritual senses".".

does anyone know where they could have got those stats?.

I don't recall the reinstated number, but the 50K DF number was in a public talk outline. I went and looked at #115 ("How To Protect Yourselves From Satan's Snares) but it did not give a specific number. I do not know if that is because it was an updated outline that omitted the number or if I found the reference elsewhere when I worked that talk up eons ago.

It does match up with what we were told in elder's schools and MTS. However, I seriously doubt the 30K reinstated number.

WHAT IS WATCHTOWERS TAX GAP?

a tax gap is the difference between what a corporation pays and the theoretical amount it would pay if they didn't take advantage of loopholes..

One would have to know how much income WTBTS has to know the answer to your question. However, during the past five years, 60 percent of American corporations pay no federal tax anyway. Since 2003, corporate income taxes only account for 8% of overall government income receipts. I am sure WTBTS would find their way into that 60% with current tax laws.

Property taxes could be theoretically calculated, but some of WTBTS's property in Brooklyn Heights has not been on the market for so long it would be difficult to state what market value would be, especially in today's economy.

Really, there lies the solution to our economic troubles: Remove all religious tax exemptions except for services that the government would otherwise provide (soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc). Close all tax loopholes so that all corporations pay their share of federal, state, and local taxes. Sure, all of those new tax costs to businesses would be passed on to the market place and the eventual buyers, but then at least we would be paying the true costs of running the country and then only if we consumed those goods and services. Our overall tax burden would be directly related to the amount of products/services we consume.

I would pay no taxes for religion because I would consume none of their "goods" or "services."

so we talked briefly by phone after she read this email/letter, and we talked about the masturbation point and married sex stuff....i asked what were the biblical reasons for fds teachings....she said for masturbation it was "deaden therefor your body members"....i said that did not mention masturbations....then it hit me.....crap....masturbation is how you deaden your body members!!

!......esp as a kid....your all excited (horny)....so how do you deaden it?....the answer is obvious.........oompa.

This is exactly what happened to me. I went back to college (to get a 2 year career degree)...useless except for 2 things: My ethics class first semester and pscyhology the last semester of that first degree. Both opened up my eyes to different ways of thinking...ways I liked. Took a couple more years before I walked away. I liked college so much I went back and will finish my transfer degree this summer.

WHAT IS/WAS BIGGEST TIMEWASTER IN JWS

I have JW time wasting down to a science. Examples:

Ministerial Training School - 8 weeks (352 hours in class plus about 100 hours of homework) and change I will never get back. All I got was this lousy T-shirt framed certificate (that I had to frame myself).

Temp at Bethel -- 4 weeks in Walkill I will never get back.

Temp at Bethel -- 3 weeks in Brooklyn I will never get back.

Pioneer School -- 2 weeks I will never get back.

Kingdom Ministry School -- several weekends I will never get back.

Countless hours in elder $hit meetings/busy work.

10 years (give or take) of Pioneering.

Many weekends sitting in a cheap a$$ tent (if we were lucky) in volunteer service on quick builds putting fu$king stickers on people's helmets to "prove" they signed in. It was either too damn hot, too damn cold, too damn rainy, or too damn windy. It was never ever nice when I was there. And why did we need 4 people to sign in volunteers? Or at midnight to check in drywallers? All we did was 10 minutes of hurry up and sign people in and 4 hours of sitting around eating cookies and drinking weak coffee and being bored out of our minds. All the single sisters were taken (or married off) by age 20. (and then I wonder why I ended up single...LOL)

I had another (unspecified) assignment for years that I did once a month for 8 hours. Also working my ass in between long periods of boredom. Any thousands of hours in other volunteer assignments. Not that it was all bad mind you. There were some fun times...but in hindsight it was all pointless.

Time Waster? Bitter? Nah. Stupid? Yes. However, I am free now. No more time wasting.

Who was the first person to become a Jehovah's Witness in your family?

my mom,dad,uncles,aunts,and grandparents were all raised catholic.

they were all baptised and married in the catholic church.. one day in the early 1960's,a witness preached to my uncle.

he started a bible study and later had his immediate family join in.

clean the fairgrounds with heaps of other witnesses when I was about eleven in Springfield IL before a District Convention.

I remember when I was a kid doing pre-convention worksetting up at the racetrack at the old fairgrounds in Springfield. I remember very hot, muggy midwest summers of the convention there. with lots of horseflies.

My mom was the first to be studied with in 1970.. perfect storm: dad away from the apartment for a month at a time serving in military nearby, two of us kids under 4, mom bored out of her mind and only knows the immediate neighbors.... lives a block from the KH...special pioneer couple come a knockin..... oh...and it was in Alaska....so she was really really bored...and had 5 and 6 hour studies couple times a week. Dad came in after that and left the military 3 years early (1975 ya know..... read that 3 years short of a military pension.... dumbass). Probably saved a marriage that would have ended if dad had finished his next (and last tour).

Dad died "faithful", mom retired now and "pioneers" (without actually signing up for it).... its her social world I guess.

My 2 younger brothers never got dunked...lucky them... it only took me a couple decades to figure it out.

Catholic Funerals...

well jimtx's post reminded me of the funeral i recently went to in the catholic church.

but jim brought up something that had struck me as unusual during the funeral (memorial) service.

every time the priest said something, a though, a prayer, or reading a passage...the people would do a chant..they were all in unison and apparently they do this a lot.
