  Resume help

  to use spaces or not to use spaces that is the question.. when writing your resume and you use hyphens in the dates, do you write them like this.

  when you write the words 10 key do you write it.

  10-key or 10 - key ?.

  I agree the way you have it looks better..and the 10-key (no space) is always right. the date thing has gotten a little fluid in recent years. Also the type of font affects how it looks and how close the spacing of the characters are.

  I have an older style book (4th edition Gregg..1996)....I need to get an updated one.

  a lot of characters are combinations of characters. if there is one in particular use a lot, you can create your own shortcut combo In Word 2007 go to the menu bar, choose Insert tab, go to the Symbol on the ribbon (far right usually) and click on the bottom choice... More Options...this will bring up the Symbol dialogue box... either choose the character or if you want to create your own combo hit the shortcut key. After that you only need to do the key combo not all the rest.

  that certification had to be worth something...

  How do you type the word "resume" and insert that little dash above the "e"?

  the way to do that is to hold down the CTRL and the single quote mark and the e at the same time to get é or the accent mark è

  so resume becomes résumé.

  and just to comment on the date range issue. If you are designing your résumé to be scannable, then simpler the better....and the extra space between the date and the dash makes it easier for OCR to read.

  i really get hot under the collar when i read the stories of ex-jws being told to leave weddings, funerals, and family gatherings simply because the.

  wt has overstepped their bounds and passed public judgement on these people declaring them "unfit to be around".. .

  these judgements are based on adherance to wt interpretation of scriptures and organizational rules and laws they have devised from this "pick.

  You'd have to find a law that prohibits a non-host to ask a person to leave private property.

  If the owner of the private property allows a guest to do anything, what can you do? Asking you to leave because you are not a dub is not illegal. If they didn't like you because you are black or homosexual, or Jewish, or a Jehovah's Witness, or any other division of the human race, so be it. It is not illegal. It is why private clubs are still allowed to exist and exclude members. (ie, the KKK is not forced to allow whites into their little private group). Unless the property owner objects and shows that the non-host was exerting undue coercion, nothing to be done.

  We may not like it and it certainly seems reprehensible for someone (JWs) who claims to be "Christian" to show such utter lack of love, but there is nothing you can do about it. It is not illegal... such people are just being an ass. And if being an ass were illegal, there would not be enough people left walking free to be the guards in the prisons for all the locked up asses in the world.

  Now if the non-host allowed someone to do something illegal, such as allowing underage drinking, and the private property owner allowed it, then of course law enforcement would be interested...and both the non host and the private property owner would be held legally, civilly, and criminally liable for allowing it. Whole different story.

  Elders "BEND" the scriptures

  did you ever notice that elders tend to "bend" the scriptures when counciling you.... to fit their view of you or of the situation?.

  i wonder what goes on before hand.. if they are going to council someone over a certain matter... do they talk between themselves and decide from what angle they will approach the subject at hand?.

  they complain about false religion taking the bible and making it fit what they want to do in their lives, but i feel that they do the same when they feel a certain way about you or a matter they are counciling you for.. .

  I never did.. as in any large population of humans, I think there is a small percentage of elders that do "get off on it." The same can be said with managers in corporations, teachers/principals in schools, or anyone else in a position of authority.

  I once told an elder that if I ever went back (and that will never happen), there is no way I would be an elder again.. I can't be judgmental like that... and now that my life doesnt involve it, I look back and think what an ass I was..even if I never intended to be... the nature of the job and position of being an elder seems to suck you in whether you want to or not.

  Ask some from this board how judgmental I was when I first got here... I am truly sorry I was that way... the tendrils of being a dub elder take time to die... I hope I am not considered to be that way now.

  absolutely. You can be certain this is the way it goes, if for no other reason than to keep everyone (the elders) on the same page when talking to a person (rank and file publisher). Cant have any open dissention in front of them. Usually there will be one elder that takes the lead (even if not a JC one elder usually takes the lead in the discussion interrogation). If it is just 2 elders, the second elder will often be a newbie elder or one that is usually not real assertive. If it is a JC of 3 or more elders, one elder will take lead, often (but not always) the chairman. The others will contribute a scripture or thought or two just to not be bumps on logs... it has all been planned out..who will open with prayer, who will close, who will read what scriptures... who will ask what questions...

  It will sometimes be a good cop/bad cop scenario... and they will play off each other...keeps the publisher detainee off balance. I dont think elders do this on purpose..that requires too much thinking.... I think it just happens naturally. That part was never planned out as far as I knew. I do know that I tried to influence a JC forming to not be all heavy handed bad cops to give the poor saps a chance....

  of course, I went off the reservation many many times and asked unplanned questions or brought up unrehearsed questions... the elders HATED it when I did that.... probably why Elder Jackass didnt't like me and got me axed at the first opportunity.

  Anyone know Brown family from St.Louis, MO or West Lafayette IN?

  many moons ago my family was close to a family of dubs by the last name of brown.

  i believe the first names of the parents were floyd and dena.

  they had a bunch of kids.

  Working out of your home

  some days i love it, others i am supposed to work and it's just so easy to get distracted with home stuff going on.. i will just get this laundry done, then this and that.

  i want my home to be in order before i start working.

  i got up, got dressed, walked out the door and left it all.

  I do not have a set schedule for my job. I found that when I was busier (back in my dub elder days, going to school FT, working 30 hours or more a week) I got more accomplished because I had to. Of course, my stress level was through the roof.

  Now that I don't have the dub "busy work" going on, I don't know what to do with myself. I work mostly Sat/Sun.... this semester I have classes 2 days a week. I should be waaay ahead on most of my courses.. instead... I just meet deadlines. I always do good work... I have a 3.67 GPA to prove it.... And this week I am off school and work and no car...... Yesterday I got my car and garage completely cleaned out ....today...I got nothing accomplished..... but my stress level is a lot lower.....

  .. it comes down to motivation...I agree with what carla said... when a bill needs payin you will get workin. Pool doesnt get filled if the water is off and the pump doesnt run without electric.....

  Are ya posting pics of your jewelry yet?
