It was sarcasm....seriously...doesn't come through well in a text based forum (should have inserted a rolling eye smiley)....

I guess I should have clarified...it was hot outside...and the guy wasn't doing anything. Just standing there...along with a dozen other brothers in "traffic" not doing anything. The brother was standing at an entrance controlled by a traffic signal...thus, his presence there was redundant....that was what was really so funny to both of us...not so much the tie...that just caught her attention.

They are supposed to, but sometimes someone in the Chairman's office drops the ball. That falls under the pervue of the Program Overseer, Assembly Overseer, and the Chairman. All participants are supposed to get a good look over before being walked from Chairman's office to the stage holding area.

If you're a parking attendant, watchman, money-box sitter, attendant, etc. they are required.

as a side not....I was on the way to the office Saturday when we encountered traffic.....yep, DC letting out of the Family Arena.... my GF seen the funniest and strangest thing.... some black guy in a dress shirt and slacks ...and a ...TIE ....DIRECTING TRAFFIC...

...she just couldnt understand that......... rolled her eyes.... i just laughed and told her ...yep, I did that too.....silly cult...who directs traffic with a tie on?

I just dont even pay any attention to MJ crap...or any celebrity stuff to be honest.

Too much good in my real life to worry about that stuff. Hell, I have barely watched TV in the last week...except for what the GF son has on in the background...and we watched Damn Yankees (ok...I slept through most of it)

Dreaming of retiring in Florida?

here is the low down on maintenance and costs.. first of all with a brand new air system by trane (2 years) our bill is still 400 a month for cooling a 1650 square foot house.

electricity down here is very, very expensive.. mold and mildew during the summer months will take over a pool, deck, or the side of your house with in days.

my mom and step dad cannot sell their house up in Dania.... they retired and moved to Ozark, AL... just enough to so my step dad doesn't have to learn Spanish (his words not mine...lol).... they could have gotten $200K five years ago... now they struggle to even attract $100K..... if they sell he will still pull $50K in equity out...

but no kidding about yard work, etc. I will NEVER move to florida, and especially SOUTH florida. Not even sure if I will visit there again.

Personally, I like having four seasons...though here in the midwest, we seem to jump from summer to winter quickly in recent years.

i have a few that i remember that were interesting.

of course, those that i supposedly helped.. but i also remember one man at an apartment.

i started to talk about the universe, and how the planets are aligned perfectly, and the earth is the perfect distance from the sun to support life.

bonafide........funny you mention this......my GF Toni specifically remembers me hitting her family's door back in the mid 80s when she still lived at home. I recall working the street and even the house she used to live in (she showed me)...but I have no specific recollection of her there.....and yet she still loves me and doesn't hold the intrusion against me........LOL

ok, i just have to vent for a minute!

i have known these two teenage girls for six years now and in that time they have wiped buggars on my furniture and walls, pooped their pants and continued to deny they had done it and refused to clean up and change their clothes.

they also routinely get poo and menstrual blood on the toilet seat and don't clean it up until i make them.

so how do you deal with an 8 year old boy who likes nothing more than to play nintendoDS (or other games on the internet) for hours on end, then watch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network when the adults go to sleep? I have ways to deal with it...slowly of course.

He was with me for an hour the other day while his mom was away with her parents.. I had her son put the game away...and had him help me outside with chores (that I was behind on). Last week when we did this he helped me spray weed killer with the garden hose. Yesterday, while his mom was gone, and he was again at my house, I had him help me clean up an area near my garbage cans that had accumulated junk.... in that junk was a bunch of aluminum cans that had missed the recycle bin.... let him burn off energy stomping cans for me....

then we moved on to the leftover bag of top soil that was covered with cardboard. Pulled off the cardboard and there were MASSIVE EARTHWORMS! ....big ol, 9 inch long, 1/2 diameter, honking earthworms....so cool!.....especially to an 8 year old boy.... let him play with those guys while I finished removing the bag to the backyard and scooped up the nice compost...I then had him hose down the concrete.... I did most of the work, but he was a big help.

when his mom got back to my house, I had a shiny garbage can/recycle bin area....and an 8 yr old that hadn't watched tv or played a damn game in an hour. I know why he spends so much time doing those things.......because video games/TV occupy kids so the adults can get something done..... I fall into it to now... but between the two of us reinforcing changing behavior...things are changing....slowly....like steering a supertanker in a crowded harbor....push too hard and you crash.

my point I guess is that, like vikesgirl, you just have to snap the kids out of their routine...what they have been used to getting away with...you can't do it overnight (as much as I want to), but you can move in that direction. Cooperation between both adults (step and biological parents) is crucial... I was a master of manipulating when I was a kid...

I don't have stepchildren....yet. In the short time we have dated, my GF's 8 yr old son has done some things that bother me. I have been plain about that, both with him and with her. I am very lucky that the gal I am dating (and in a very serious relationship) is OK with me correcting her son. She and I communicate very well, and for that we are both lucky. Poster theBorg is right.....As long as the parents (or in our case the couple) present a united front and don't let the kids get a wedge in, the kids have to back down and fly right. In our case, her son does. He is a good kid...just being a kid.

As for your situation...I agree with Jamie and crapola.....get your husband in line. If you cannot, the marriage will suck at best, crumble at worst.

My personal experience in such matters is limited to the above comment...and my own experience as a kid that liked to play mom against dad......

And my relationship is not perfect by any means, I stepped in some serious shit today. Our first real disagreement. (Not the first stupid thing I have done or said)...... Flowers sent to work tomorrow kind of disagreement. () Neither of us are yellers or fighters...I was dead wrong in what I did and I knew it. I knew I had crossed a boundary. It was a test and we made it through because we had established a foundation of communication. Fern... If you can talk with your husband and get you and his ducks in a row, the kids will follow as Jamie said.

It's not OK to blast music in your driveway if you are in a neighborhood.

july 4th is ramping up....several neighbors feel its ok to blast their radios.

by blast, i mean i can hear the music from a block over.

i have rock coming from the back of my house, spanish music coming from either side of me, and christian rock filling in front.

my mom and step dad have a house in Dania that is made of wood...pembroke pine...the exception to the no wood rule of South Florida apparently. Apparently the termites dont like the pine. The house is for sale since they moved to Alabama..

and when the "music" is so loud it rattles the windows and walls, it is too damn loud. In our town of 30,000 people...it is spread out quite a ways...yet we only have 5 FT cops patrolling in the day and 4 at night.... good luck getting them out for noise complaints.

Family Vacation in Colorado. Suggestions?

i would really love to take my family (including a couple of small kids...and maybe the dog) on a road trip to the colorado rockies in late summer.

i'd like to spend at least a week out there.

any ideas on places with some good scenery, activities, places to stay (a cabin would be cool).. i haven't been out there before, and i don't know if i want to just stay in one area or make some sort of "grand circuit".

I loved Boulder, not far from Denver...I hiked into the mounains, took a tour of the Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory, which was really cool. They let you go into a big room where they have to keep all of the bags of spearmint and peppermint seperate from everything else. Clears the sinuses nicely. Overwhelming....

...only fly in the ointment, and WTWizard made me remember...do NOT stop at the Kingdumb Hell as you pass it on the road to the factory. LOL

There are some facilities to take hot air balloon rides but I think that has to be planned ahead and done early, weather permitting. I just missed that opportunity a couple of years back......ballooning in the Rockies... great idea...

downtown Denver...16th street pedestrian mall is nice if the weather is good...great for people watching..... There is a free tram that saves you a lot of walking that runs every few minutes... Science Museum in Denver looked interesting...I wish I would have had time to really check it out...I was working all but one day that week....

...anything in the Rockies or the National Parks...choose the ones off the beaten path....

I do not have any biological children of my own...and I never will. Why? Because I devoted my younger years to the cult. Do I resent that? Yep. Do I dwell on it.... no....not any more.

At 42, it was unlikely that I would marry a woman young enough to have kids. ((Even if I did, I watched my dad go through hell when my youngest brother was born...32 years ago.... my dad was the age I am now......42. (mom was 33). Little brother was born when I was 10, my middle brother was 7.... and my little brother was not planned but he was and is loved...despite the tremendous heartache he has often caused.))

Now that I have met someone who, though still early in our relationship, looks like she is "the one" ...we know we are not having any children together...the risks to her health are too great to chance it...and we are both too old to be raising kids into our 60s... I look forward to helping her raise her 8 year old son. I hope I can have a good influence in helping him to grow up to be a good man in life...someone that is caring and non-judgmental. And we will still be young enough when he flies the nest to do some travelling together.

I have heard JW parents at the KH say this (the topic subject) about their kids....usually self-righteous pioneer wannabees.... let me tell you...giving up your chance at kidsin this system....with a fake promise at kids in some fantasy paradise at some continuously shrinking future date.... to knock on thousands of doors over a lifetime to get maybe one or two recruits to the cult....just to watch 4 or 5 others leave out the back door....that is an excerise in futility. No thanks. I abhor violence, but I cannot stand stupid people like that...but this is an exception...Please smack the hell out of the next JW parent that says crap like that.
