Hello -
without hijacking another thread... my daughter is turning 12 in April and I'd love to hear about your Mall scavenger hunt party! Did you let the girls loose in the Mall by themselves?
I LOVE the idea - please share!

okay, so after coming to an agreement with my wife about letting our kids do holidays our son is having his birthday coming up this weekend.
i'd like to take him out for a lunch or something with a couple of his friends but i have no clue what to do or where to go.
isn't that sad?
Anyone else feel a bit guilty celebrating holidays openly after not doing so all your life?
My daughter's 7th birthday was also our first family celebration. I was too afraid to even put "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" on the cake - I ordered a cake that just had her name instead. Then we saw my JW dad the day after her party and she is showing him her presents and asks "how come you didn't get me a birthday present?" Panic!
It gets easier - especially as the kids get older and start looking forward to their parties. We had a roller skating party last time - that was a lot of fun!

1) Bad drivers!
2) Phone breathers (those that breath loudly into the phone)
3) Car rattles, car vibrations, or any kid of noise that shouldn't be there!
4) Long lines - especially being the last person in a long line. I'm very impatient.
i have two cats.
one is a fat female cat.
i have one of those soaker tubs and when i soak in it, she will sit on the back ledge and bury her head in my hair and just purr up a storm.
My cat Katie is so cute - she does this thing where she runs ahead of me, then plops down on her back in front of where I'm walking. I can't walk past her without petting her tummy! Then when she has me down on the ground, she licks my hand, both sides, for as long as I'll let her. It's actually kinda gross, but totally endearing.
watching the clip of george bush sr patting terri hatchers ass after lunch and a kiss on the cheek makes me wonder about a few things.
first - at what level of intimacy do you allow said pat or grab?
would you let an acquaintance do it?
I think George, Sr. falls into the "dirty old man" category.

was there something special that happened, an event or maybe a deception, that triggered your point of no return as a jw.. .
.
.
For me, personally, it was when my first daughter entered Kindergarten and was invited to a birthday party. We were still on the fence and told her no at first. Then the holidays came around - and there really wasn't any reason to prevent her from enjoying these childhood celebrations that we were deprived of. My husband and I talked about it for weeks and finally decided that we had no intention of returning to the KH and had no intention of raising our kids as JWs. I remember telling my husband, "I can't raise her with in a religion I don't believe in anymore". So after the first birthday party, we jumped in feet first and that was the end of it. Now, I am so sad that we don't have memories of our kid's first, second, etc. birthdays.
anyone ever wonder why ...if there is no hell and we are not going to burn etc etc because god is a loving god......why do we bother because w'all going to die and we are not going to be observing the righteous jw's enjoying through a glass window while we are suffering on the other side......just wondering?
?
What are the qualifying factors that would send one to hell in the first place? Is hell reserved for the child molesters and murderers or for every-day lying/cheating? Adultery? Being a shitty parent? Having a general lack of morals?
Then I wonder, is there a certain amount of goodness that one can practice after being a full-blown sinner in order to prevent hell?
For me, it's easier to believe that hell doesn't exist.
