Awakened,
You are a meanie, in a very funny sort of way. Good stuff!!!!
HS,
This is what I was commenting on:
"...in my opinion, natural evil is moral evil; in my mind, there is no distinction between moral and natural evil."
Help me out. What am I missing?
Cheers,

How did the JDUBS feel about physical fitness?
by asilentone inhow did they feel about physical fitness?
did they say anything to discourage physical fitness?

Neither fiscal fitness nor physical fitness are things that a "mature Christian" should be pursing.
The advice was that walking in the ministry was the best exercise you could get.

Hi All,
There is no questioning that the disaster in Myanmar is tragic on a monumental scale.
However, to characterize a natural event as "evil" is probably not so useful in trying to understand our world and how it works. Cyclones/Hurricanes/Typhoons are no more evil than a carnivorous animal that kills other animals to feed itself and its offspring. For both tropical storms and carnivorous animals it is just the way nature has unfolded. In fact, tropical storms and weather systems are an absolutely necessary natural mechanism for redistributing heat on the planet. Without these systems the tropics would quickly overheat and regions that are now temperate would probably be uninhabitable because of desertification.
Any "evil" in nature stems from the way that humans deal with nature. In the Caribbean, where structures have been built for hundreds of years to withstand 200+ mph winds, these kinds of storms are just part of life. The tragedy in Myanmar is an example of how poor planning (by the government) and inequitable wealth distibution have limited the options that people have to provide safe and secure homes for themselves. Unfortunately, this is a harbinger of things to come.
As the world's population continues to spiral out of control and climate change begins to accelerate, these kinds of disasters are going to become commonplace in the decades ahead. In fact, it is probably safe to say that these kinds of disasters will become so common that we won't suffer any more long-term alarm than is produced by a major airline disaster today. Approximately 75% of the world's population lives within 60 km of a coast. Rising sea level and a hotter planet are a perfect recipe for a lot of death, pain and suffering.
A geologist's perspective.

GB sidles out of 1919 and puts 1914 in the bin. (WT study.)!!
by hamsterbait inhas anybody noticed in many recent watchtowers that christ is now said to have "turned his attention to the earth in 1914.".
unlike the 60's they do not say christ "came" in 1914. the "proclaimers book " p137 says the bible students came to discern that "christ did not return, (even invisibly), in 1914.".
the way is now paved.

HB,
THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This article could be the catalyst for all of the disappointed old timers to take a step back and say, "Whoa....."
I was convinced, before I left the BORG in 1997, that there was a real feeling of discontent among those who had pinned their hopes on the BORG's explanation of the 1914 generation and who also lived through the 1975 debacle. Do you remember how the BORG always used to quote the scripture (Psalms or Proverbs???) that 'expectation postponed, makes the heart grow sick' ??? This is going to come back to bite them in the ass.
Thanks for the headsup on this WT article.
Cheers,
Alex

Jehovah's Witnesses are CASTING A GIANT SHADOW
by Terry infolks are about as happy as they decide to be.. looking on the bright side of life gives you more of a foothold when things go awry.
nurturing hope builds a foundation for you which enables you to save for tomorrow and build toward the future and hang on when things get tough.. people dig their own graves when they become pessimists.
"why bother" replaces "that's worth a try!".

Terry,
All excellent points. The Dub mentality of constantly dwelling on what is wrong with the world ends up engulfing their thinking to the point that they cannot see anything positive.
It's no wonder that so many of them are clinically depressed.
They deprive themselves of everything that contributes to psychological health -- no future hopes for a good life unless Armageddon happens, no food for the mind with higher education, no decent jobs that allow Dubs to provide properly for their families, no freedom to think for themselves about anything, no prudent planning for retirement because it would show a lack of faith in the nearness of the end.
OMG they are really pathetic human beings.
Cheers,
Alex

3 important questions to ponder.....
by crazyblondeb inthree things to ponder:.
1. cows.
2. the constitution.

Alpaca
Deb,
Good points.
How about this -- the government can keep track of a single cow and where every single hamburger from that cow ends up but they can't figure out how to make sure that our voting system is secure and tamper proof.
Cheers,
Alex
