Derek,
I notice the article mentions that the eldest son has already joined the army. I take it that you do not consider that to be scrounging? Where one goes the rest may well follow. If not the army, then some other job where they can pay for themselves and contribute towards society. Give them a chance, they may all surprise you.

Re the comment on my post saying "this is complete bollocks", if you want to be offensive, diamondblue1974, then just think about how crass your own comment is, after reading the following:
You plainly don't understand human psychology. All people who don't have a serious problem want good, well paid, interesting work. There is a certain satisfaction in earning ones own living. That some people are unable to is an indictment against society, not the individual. There are too many unscrupulous "entrepreneurs" and 'fat cat business men who will get other people working for them and pay little or nothing in return for hard physical graft. They will then at their convenience discard them like so much rubbish. As for the huge pay gap you try to justify, no one, no matter how skilled or qualified they are is worth the enormous wages some people 'earn' but everyone should have a chance to earn a living wage. The article showed that Mr Gillespie would have worked if he could have earned a living wage to support his family. Your attitude reflects that of the kingdom hall hypocrites, uncaring, unfeeling and unkind. I remember how they used to say, 'If I can do it, anyone can'. But everyone is not the same are they? Who are you to judge?
How do you know that those children will never learn to pay for themselves? They certainly have more chance to make something of themselves now, given a decent environment than they would if they were forced to live in the poverty and squalor some people here seem to think they deserve. Wednesday is right when he says children should be considered a blessing but certain people on this board have already judged the children in this family to be unworthy of a decent life.
As for irresponsibility, I say that the very act of publicizing this family's situation is irresponsible. What does the Daily Mail think will happen to those children when they go back to school after the holidays I wonder? -

I perhaps shouldn't say this. Don't want to offend anyone, but as soon as I saw it, I thought, "YUK". It looks like it's going to drool and slobber an awful lot to me and I bet it's got terrible dog-breath! As you might have guessed, I'm not a dog lover myself but each to their own eh?

50 things to do with a house brick
by SnakesInTheTower inso whilst googling for an image of a salt lick for an earlier post, i ran across this little item....must originate in uk, 'cause some of the references are obviously local humor.
i might need an explanation for some, but dont bother, ruins the joke.... enjoy.

I am reliably informed that bricks make very undemanding pets:
They do not require exercise;
If you do take them for a walk, they do not jump up at complete strangers, covering them in muddy paw prints;
They do not cover the sofa in hair;
They do not chew the furniture;
They will not jump on your knee while you are reading;
Their intelligence is greater than that of the average politician. As a consequence of this they can at times be extremely helpful, for example, holding open the garden gate while you carry the watering can;
They do not require a litter tray;
They do not bark at night and disturb the neighbours;
Food requirements are minimal;
They may be safely left outside in all weathers;
They do not require special bedding;
They do however require the occasional clean up with a stiff brush to remove dirt and parasites;
Apart from this they make an excellent companion, being loyal and uncomplaining. -

Sorry for the double post but I can't say it strongly enough, those pictures are horrible!!! I feel they should be removed from this site. I came on here for therapy to help me get over the trauma of being a JW and this is what I find. I may never recover!

They have at least managed to produce 12 potential, future tax payers. It may well be, that in the end this family will have contributed more to British society than their 'hard working' neighbours, who after all, are only working hard to line their own pockets. Why should anyone unfortunate enough to be at the bottom of the wages pile have to do without? Why should a shelf stacker at a supermarket earn so much less than a stockbroker?
Many people in Britain today are failing to save enough for their old age. When this couple's neighbours need care in their old age, those 12 potential, future taxpayers will be the among the ones who pay for or even provide that care. Since the neighbours think everyone should provide for his/herself, are they going to refuse any help they may need in the future?
In any case, who says looking after a family, let alone a family of 12, isn't hard work? Bringing up those children is a far more worthwhile job than almost any paying job their neighbours are likely to be doing.
I say good luck to this big family.
