Hi looseend, thanks for your recommendation, I might try it. I just googled 'creationism', and it came up with an 'informative' site: www.creationism.org. It gives a good insight into the creationist way of 'thinking'. There is some 'science' on it too. Anyway, thought it might be useful, if you haven't already looked there, that is. Academic research and writing can be a real pain can't it? Hope you are doing ok. Remember to take a break every so often! Alpha

Hi looseend, You could try "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins or one of his other books. Obviously he is a pro-evolutionist and his points are powerfully argued but, to be fair, he does look on both sides of the coin and covers many of the opposing views. The notes section at the back gives lots of useful references so you could do further research. Good luck with your paper, Alpha

just to introduce myself

Hiya alotlikemay, nice to meet you. When I joined 'the truth' I was very lonely and desperate to have some friends. I was in for around 15 years. I'm a shy person and 'reaching out' was a real effort but no matter how hard I tried I could never quite manage to belong to the 'in crowd' and I never had any real friends. I really feel that being a JW stunts a person's social development. Been out now for 13 years and only recently have I begun to make what I would call real friendships. I'm glad you're finding some good friends now you're out. Here's hoping both you and I meet some more real friends here too. Luv Alpha

Would anyone like an invite to the memorial?
by Axeman injust visited my 80 year old mother who rarely goes witnessing.
noticed a pile of tracts for the memorial she has been given to distribute.
50 houses is a lot for an old lady you'd think jehovah's organization would cut her some slack.

I'll have one. In fact, since there are five in my family, we'll have one each, (if it's not cheating, that is). I'll put them all in the recycling bin our local council has kindly provided. I've always been interested in caring for the environment. ;)

How Long Did It Take You To Snap Out Of Watchtower Think?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial; font-size: 18px; color: #000099; } .style2 { font-size: 16px; font-family: arial; color: #000099; } .style3 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } --> how long did it take you to snap out of watchtower think?it took me better than a year to let go of watchtower think.
the teachings held on to me.
more so than the emotions and i did not have family in the organization to tie me down.. disconnecting yourself from watchtower thinkwhen you first discovered what the society was behind the scenes how long did it.

It's been 13 years since I last attended a meeting but I still feel guilty, guilty, guilty about celebrating Christmas; accepting Mother's Day gifts from my children; buying Easter eggs and birthday presents etc, etc, etc. Just the idea of having someone elses blood transfused into my body disgusts me. As for accessing this site and actually posting- well, my well trained JW conscience has gone into overdrive!!! Trying my best to ignore it though ;) Alpha

Characteristics of Narcissistic Mothers
by rebel8 inhttp://www.geocities.com/zpg1957/narcissists.htm i've had some narcissistic types in my life and boy, does this article ring true.
(this is not true of my mother but just like a mirror image of my sister.
also reminds me of the dynamics of the wt org.

Thanks rebel8 for posting this info. It describes my mother in law perfectly. I'm going to bookmark it so I can show my husband later. It will help him understand some of the things that went on in his childhood. He is still trying to come to terms with the way she treated him 40 odd years ago! An extreme example, for anyone who wants to find out more ,is, "My Story, A Child Called 'It', The Lost Boy, A Man Named Dave," by Dave Pelzer. It's well worth a read.

1. The presiding overseer in our congregation slandered a close relative of mine. The things he said were vicious, spiteful and wholly untrue but almost all the congregation believed him. My relative was devastated and had a nervous breakdown! 2. When I confronted the overseer, he denied all knowledge and accused me of being the liar. Some of the other elders had been present when the overseer slandered my loved one. They all chose to deny the truth and support their colleague instead of the victim. 3. My relative wrote to the Watchtower Society giving details of what was said, witnesses etc. Their reply, which was addressed to, "Mr" not "Brother", denied there had been any wrongdoing and directed him back to the elders to have his, "thinking straightened out". For various reasons I had been unhappy with the WTBTS for some time. This was the final straw. I couldn't go along with it anymore
