Quendi I'm not sure about that. I suppose if we could survey a significant sample of JWs we might actually determine that. Or by "religion/cult" do you mean the leadership?

Rutherford "Reformed" the org. from Russel. 1980 was a big reform at Bethel. How do you like the changes ?
Balamsass, didn't Rutherford stage a coup which is how he got the reigns? If one single person was able to do it, then doesn't that show that it can be done?
1980 is another great example. The fact that they had to purge all those people shows there's a moderate element within the religion.

Robert King isn't 'moderate'. He is pro JW, but thinks the Governing Body is wrong where it doesn't agree with him.
Black Sheep, maybe that's not so much a matter of moderation and more about mental illness.

Reform movement= apostates (wt definition) that are stuck because of family and don't believe the crap anymore, hoping for a change. Good LUCK! Oh, I'm not supposed to use that term Lucky.
LOL, JakeM2012. I know the leadership would like to brand them as apostates. If enough of those spread their ideas and called for a change instead of hoping for a change, what would happen.

There is a whole sub-culture of apostates who believe that the WT Society, though corrupt, is still some kind of vehicle for Jehovah's purpose. Such ones propose that bible prophecies regarding the restoration of the Jews can be applied to the restoration of the organization. I'm not saying this is what these guys believe, merely that these are the extremes that some "reformists" can go to. If that's the case, perhaps "moderate" isn't a good word with which to describe them!
I guess I would agree with you about that, Cedars. Not all Moderate JWs are the same. Like you said before, at least it's a start.

If enough JWs pushed for a doctrinal change it would occur. I think we underestimate the power of the group.
That's an interesting thought, Qcmbr. The Society, as far as I know, is directed by committees. I suposed if enough people open to change got on those committees it may happen.

I think moderation would be a good thing. Maybe this would loosen some of the chains that the GB control.
I agree straightshooter. As it is, I think the leadership realizes they're losing control. They're just not liking.

I hear what you're saying baltar447. I'm not saying the leadership doesn't use coercion. I'm not saying it's not a cult. What I am saying is not every JW is extremist. That's like saying that all "apostates" lie about the organization. Just like it's wrong for the leadership to paint all who leave with the same brush, it's wrong for us to paint all who are JWs with the same brush.
