Why is the chicken-crossing-road joke a classic?

"why did the chicken cross the road?".

if someone asks this, the one thing you know they aren't going to say is "to get to the other side".

that's the classic, original answer that is apparently encoded in our dna, and quite probably on the very vibrations of the universe itself.. you expect something unexpected:.

i'm not sure if it was mentiopned.

but i think that we are talking about not just one call from each person, but we are talking about spending a good length of time calling repeatedly.

othrwise it just won't have much of an impact.

other people dropping little hints, tidbits and questions that eventually led me out of the org. Once a fact is put out there, it tends to linger and eventually get spread.

A lot of us here do.

I got a ministerial servant out and an elder ( he's now a sporadic meeting attender only to appease his wife and keep business contacts).

My son is thoroughly deprogrammed.

Discreetly planting "little hints, tidbits, and questions" in the minds of friends, family members, and acquaintances that are JW's is very different from calling Bethel and solidifying their persecution complex.

When a doubting Witness knows he/she can be "real" with you, they will call when they want to talk/vent.

You just have to be there to listen to them, without judging them like those "still in" do.

In the questions reviewed prior to baptism ( OM book), it is clearly explained that Jehovah's Witnesses do get baptized in the name of the Father ( Jehovah), the Son ( Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit ( Jehovah's active force).

Christian sects or individual Christian believers questioning the authenticity of such baptisms is another matter.

Yes.

I know they believe in Jesus, but is the Good News that they deliver about the saving grace of Jesus Christ?

Or is it all about God's name being Jehovah?

That part of the message is intended to make them unique amongst all the other Christian sects.

On a personal note, I invited Jesus into my heart.

If all the money is reinvested into worldwide work- then it seems that those running the show are also believers and that makes it much harder to feel purposely deceived and more misguided by the misguided.

That seems to be pretty accurate.

The purpose of the organization is to perpetuate itself.

The motives of those in charge aren't quite as clear, but some, if not most, seem to be true believers.

I think it was Ray Franz that called them "victims of victims".

in defense of the Holy Trinity

i need some help on the holy trinity.

my husband is studying with the witnesses (he's not one of them yet), and is totally buying into the idea that god, jesus and the holy spirit are all separate, not (as i've tried to explain) separate, but also one in the trinity.

i have pointed out the scriptures in john that reference god as the word, and then jesus as the word later.
