  Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?

  i know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.

  but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?

  i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

  The only thing that was specifically banned was Halo: Combat Evolved, from the PO.

  Not too long ago, Bethelites were dismissed for playing Halo.

  first time posting, long time lurking.. came upon this site on accident a few years ago and dismissed it as a site for disgruntled people; however, in the past months i actively searched for it as it stuck in my mind.

  believe it or not, i practically read all of the topics.

  i felt, wow, i wasn't alone in my thinking and feelings about some things.. it all started years ago in my last year in high school and then into college.

  i looked at the 2005 sevice report and found that islamic countries have one of the highest populations but the fewest jehovah's witnesses.

  take bangladesh.

  there are only 111 jehovah's witnesses out of a population of 144,319,628 people.

  The WTS likes to "piggy-back" on Christendom's missionaries, past and present. They're very open about that. "Let's let the big guys do the heavy lifting" is the mentality. Why invest in a new market where no one sees your product as relevant when you can go to an established market offering your product as the new and improved version of something the population is using and familiar with.

  i heard it said recently on this forum that there was no such thing now as disfellowshipping or disassociating.

  you are either a jw or not... is this correct?

  and how much should i read into the thing about 'not talking to the inactive' now, as per advice given at the latest assembly?

  Hello Jeffro,

  The likely reason was the large proportion of leavers who disassociated™ over doctrinal concerns. Other members are less likely to want to find out about such concerns if it is simply implied that the leaver committed some 'sin', and usually the implication is 'fornication'™.

  i was thinking of this the other day.

  though i am not christian or any other religion, and at times even question the validity of god (which becomes more appearent with all the shit that goes on in this world every day), i stopped and thought, what if?

  what if after this life those who did not believe in a higher power, ie god, go to meet this maker.

  I answer yes to your question. Why? I'm a reasonable and compassionate guy and if I were God I would cut the doubting some slack for the very reasons you mentioned in your question. Having said that, I'm sure that God must be far more reasonable and compassionate than am I. So doubters are good to go. I also believe it could get slightly more complicated. I believe in morality. Defined how in the absence of sacred text? Deliberate action or inaction that causes or does not prevent suffering is immoral. Deliberate action or inaction that alleviates or prevents suffering is moral. And everything else falls inbetween. These would be good standards for defining morality. And if God wants to vaporize me or anybody else, I guess that's ok too.

  they have run articles on conscientious objectors, shunning, banned movies and music (how to choose entertainment), proper subjects for prayer.....there have been more than 5 or 6 matches.

  2. I think in lieu of homobation, we could substitute mastursexuality. Or we could employ both terms. Ex.- Mastursexuals engage in homobation with great enthusiasm. or His frequent bouts of homobation reassured all who knew him that he was a flaming mastursexual.

  3. On a more serious note, if your double was wearing a leather mini-skirt, then yes he was asking for it.

  i just dawned on me that we must be in paradise now!

  after all 1975 brought the end of the world, for which end we all sacrificed having children, careers, interesting work, hobbies and oral sex.

  i missed some of those things [some more than others], but in the end it was good to set foot in that new earth, especially once we got the stench from the 6,000,000,000 dead behind us, and the shite off our 'newly inherited' luxury automobiles [those damndable carion birds].

  For that, stillgroggy, a new term would be coined............................homobation. And a series of Awake articles would warn against the evils of the practice.

  This does raise another question. Could my wife find this new development in any way useful or advantageous?
