  Welp- Talked to an elder

  spoke to an elder and mentioned i had some concerns that need addressing.

  he asked if it's about the organization and i answered with a simple yes.

  it's something i don't want to do, but for some reason the better half thinks it's necessary, as if i need a different perspective on my research and maybe he'll be able to shed some light on my doubts.

  Got a few giggles from another discussion board RE: "Why don't JWs vote?"

  re: serena williams' comments about jws not voting......of course the non-jw members wanted to know why.. the first giggle i got from all the non-jws posting who wanted to know why she could dress so skimpily, pursue her tennis career and wrap herself in the american flag while still proclaiming to be a jw.

  i'd go so far as to say all of the non-jw posters were questioning this.. the second giggle was the expected knee-jerk defensive reaction from the jws on the board......i.e., "here we go judging people from appearance again," and "how come nobody's judging this celebrity/that celebrity?".

  then, the expected "how come everybody hates jws" comment from another one.

  confronting distortions with the truth: my recent battle with jw apologist websites.

  i have recently become aware of jw apologist websites that have used my dad's name as well as my own to distort the role the societys' teachings played in my dad's refusal of a life saving kidney transplant and inevitably his death.

  my dad's story is told in brief in numerous places on the internet.

  Yea, I'm high as Jesus right now... I have to get high to deal with the Republicans in this country and the followers of GW Bush.
  
  Get this, one came to my house this week told me Obama was a Muslim, hated America, "won't salute the flag"... all of which is nonsense.. when I showed him proof oterhwise he walked off and later repeated the same foolish accusations... we have real problems in this country right now and this is who gets to vote.

  Reclaiming my national identity

  i love this country.

  it is the home of my childhood and though there was a lot of pain there were the good times - going off to the park and looking for frogs and snakes, getting stuck in the mud, learning to swim in lake ontario, watching my 8 yr old brother jump off the 25 foot tower in the swimming pool below.

  i was older but he had the spunk.
