Cool all of your avatars are very cool. Mine is the famous burning monk. I find it is a great symbol with a lot of meaning when it comes to religion and control.

Unrealized hopes and dreams - crappy reality of life
by tartarus ini am thankful to jehovah's witnesses who taught me the bible.
i still believe it is the word of god.
i have studied other spiritual traditions and have compared different teachings and haven't found one that gives such a positive outlook on the future.

Welcome to the board. It's not easy at first especially if your raised in the JW (like me) it takes some time to heal. I am so much better now that I am free and there is no way in hell that I am going back. I like to compare the feeling to a animal who spent most of his life in captivity, you send it out in it's natural environment and it becomes scared and it must learn how to survive. For us it is similar but once we have tasted what it really means to be free and depend on our self you can never go back.
When it comes to the future of the world try to accept the things you have no a control over, the earth and life on it has changed many times for over 4 billion years so I think it is a bit arrogant to think we little humans are going to do much damage. I find also that this world today is not as bad as the JW would make it out to be, try and inform yourself on the good tings we humans have accomplish compared to what our world looked like before. Take back the control of your life don't let fear and a publishing company convince you that you need an org. to make you happy.

New freedom....new god/s?
by whitman ini'm curious as to how far everyone has explored their new found freedom having left the borg.. has anyone been interested in, or interested in becoming, or just vaguely interested in the following - the raelians (they do have good geometry), any ufo cult, rastafarianism, amish, trekkies, the john frum movement, the discordians, buddhists, hindu, scientologist or any other that isn't listed here?

I was interested in Satanism for a wile, I still find it interesting but then again it's not really a religion because they don't even believe in Satan or god, it's more of a way to "get back" at Christianity. Now I am more interested in meditation, yoga, martial arts and opening the chakras. These of course are not religions but they do have a "spiritual" side.

Dogs in field service
by keyser soze inthe thread about angels in the ministry reminded me of this.
there was a lot of rural territory in the congregation that i attended, which meant a lot of houses with dogs out running loose.
some of these dogs were fairly vicious.

Those dogbite incidents illustrate the danger of JW urban legends which give people a false sense of security. These legends often include miraculous deliverance, and certain ones among the JW's buy into it and think Jehoober is going to swat away any danger when they're out counting field service time.
I agree and I remember hearing all kinds of myths like this when I was younger and I would never put them to the test. I remember on time when I was about 14 years old and I was out in FS with this middle age pioneer woman. We were at this house that you can tell nobody was home and if there were they probably were sleeping. I knock very lightly and the pioneer said to me that I should always knock loud and at least three times. I ask why because I told her it was obvious that no one was there and if some one was they probably did not want to be bother. She told me about this guy who was going to hang himself but a JW at the door insisted on knocking and the guy opened the door and was saved. I said to her I doubt that there is a suicidal person behind every door.
This reminds me also of another JW urban legend, several versions of which I have heard. The story goes that two JWs go to the door, the householder is pissed and holding back a vicious dog. He threatens to unleash the dog if they don't leave. The second bro, who in most of the stories I heard, is described as an ex-military guy, a new JW and learned to handle dogs in the military, then pipes up and tells the hh that they will leave, but don't release the dog on them or he will kill the dog. The hh then releases the dog and the ex-military bro kills it with a single blow.
I remember that one.

The Douchiest Phone Message In History
by Elsewhere ini'm giving you until a 3:00 pm deadline to listen to this phone recording and post your thoughts on it.. http://www.holytaco.com/2008/06/27/the-douchiest-phone-message-in-history/.
in all my years of studying douchebaggery, never have i encountered anything like this.
its such pure and unadulterated douche that i wish i could bottle it and use just a drop of it at a time.. the back story on this is that a girl named olga was out with her friends in the marina district of san francisco (known for being a popular hang out for douches), and she talked to this guy named dmitri for all of two minutes.

That I hope is fake. If it's not then this guy is a sociopath. If this guy is for real I hope he never gets to spread his genes.

Did he get "healing"...get back "some dinity"? Of course would have to ask him about that. But did he, or did he come away more angered, with less dignity?
maybe I guess it could of help or not but I think for me it would have felt good even if I probably would not have acted as aggresivly.
He played the game by their rules. They got what they wanted, he lost. They knew what they were about, especialy the "cousin". Put the bite in his mouth, saddled him and said giddy up. What could be better than a loud, wild eyed apostate being escorted out the door. jw's eat that s___ up....
You have a point, I guess sometimes we apostate need to act in a way that does not bring reproach on the apostates name

well, should have tempered my observation with the observation that Blaze of Glory exits are also pretty cool. I don't think anybody should leave with their tail between their legs. Just saying that demonstration of non-hurt/damage would shock the average JayDub more than a crazy Satan controlled apostatepants. They're ready to see apostates, they see few conscious-free, Ex-JayDubs, who can look them
in the eye, smile and act like a normal human being.
I never want to let a JayDub see me looking angry at them. I am unconditional love and a shining example of a human being.I agree, we all "evolve" at a different pace. There is a part of me that can relate with the guy who made that video. I guess a life time of suppressing natural feelings can leave us with some damage and it can be difficult to face all of it. I know that I for one have a lot more healing to do.

It must of felt sooo gooood to do that. Some people pay a lot of money for therapy but this guy found a way to "take the power back" maybe it was immature but I could feel the frustration and the built up anger in this guy and I find it weird that some don't seem to get that. Come on we all know how this cult treats us, how they made us feel like shit for so long, I agree that this was maybe not the perfect way but who cares? if he got some healing and got back some dignity out of it and he did not really hurt any body so what? When you consider all the damage this cult did and is still doing to good people I think this little emotional explosion was justified, but then again that just my opinion.

This system just cannot get any worse"
It is going to, near term.
Fasten your safety belts.
This system can get worst and it can get better, it depends on us and nature.

Well like most have pointed out there have been times in human history that were a lot worst. I think that when high control groups like the WTBTS say things like that it is because they are loosing more and more control over their subject, we are living in the information age were you can look up almost anything. People from all aver the place that have access to the Internet can see how much freedom there is in other places on the earth and start to think " hey I want that to". This creates intellectual revolutions and people who were under mid control start to free themselves.
