How many here gave up having a family for the sake of the "truth"?

this is a sensitive topic for many of us i know, but i am wondering how many here actually gave up the idea of having a family "in this system" for the sake of "kingdom activity or service"??.

I thought the admonishment to not have kids was like back in the 30's and 40's. I'm almost 60 and was a born in and there were always kids in my Hall and the surrounding congregations. They should've made it grounds for getting DF'd, would've been interesting to see how it played out

Yes they would, the hoarder would be told to go out in service more, remember?

I guess you've forgotten how knocking on doors or standing like a statue in a subway station is the cure all for everything in JDubland.

I didn't click on the attachment since someone above said it says "not available" but I remember about a year or so ago watching a rerun of the show about a guy in his 40's-50s and as they scanned the filth I saw a few publications in the background. He lived alone and I believe he was married at one time.

i know of the local congregation's issues, per an elder i know quite well.

he has said that nearly everyone in the congregation is suffering emotionally and mentally.

he said he has never seen so many witnesses with so many problems.

Yeah, I remember that making the rounds that her family were JWs. She even makes the lists of celebrities who are JWs all the time

so tomorrow is going to be my last encounter with a jw friend of mine for various reasons on her side.

(long story).

i have spent a lot of time discussing various concerns about the jw teachings, but havent been able to make any progress in helping her to question or doubt the teachings.

She's blinded by the "JW" light, she will just dismiss everything you say OR she still may dismiss what you say but she will never let you know if you planted a seed to make her think about something that you said

People's Court - Fiancee has two daughter but not married

part of the story on people's court this afternoon is that this women's mother wants her to baptize her two daughters in her monthers religion which is catholic, she offered that the father of both her daughters, aged 3 and 18 months is a jw and they both decided not to have their children baptized.. so, she uses the word fiancee, they have two kids and are not married, is there some new flip flop law about premarital sex now, or this guy put on the repentant act twice and was probably dfd a few times, i'm sure he's not the only one carrying on like that, but i found that part of this women's story interesting.

also glad it was mentioned on a show that draws a lot of viewers, it will probably raise some questions with nonbelievers who thought the dubs didn't carry on like that..

Hospitality hour?

so i just talked with my jw mom and of course she had a very busy weekend with the memorial and then sunday meeting.

then she said that she went to a hospitality hour after the sunday meeting.

has anyone heard of this?

So I guess the little party they used to have after the weekly Book Study, although I don't think they did that every week, I think my mother said one week out the month they used to bring food, has now been extended to the Sunday meeting.

One thing I noticed, I see the Memorial doesn't have people lined all around the wall and a whole lot of seats were empty,as a kid the KH was packed to the gills with people. I guess folks are getting hip to the the Dubs by watching Dateline or Nightline and reading about the child abuse cases.
