Christmas, Mother's Day etc etc..
by Mikado init's mother's day today, a lovely tradition that probably raises lots of thoughts and emotions in ex jws... i was walking around the local supermarket and remembered my family's next door neighbours, who were very intellectually disabled.. in hindsight they probably weren't able to look after themselves, as they lived in absolute squalor.. they didn't have two coins to rub together, yet they went to the effort to buy my family a card and get them a small gift.. i was newly out, and watched in absolute shame and horror as my mother said, in a very superior manner " we don't celebrate christmas", .
it's something i think of often with shame... i too was that superior... to my shame..

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?
by Black Man ini often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

While we're throwing out names of Bethelites, anyone know Keith and Becky Hopper? Last I heard they were still there, they were in my mother's Cong and he was the top Elder of the Cong. can't think of what you call it now.

A woman who has no appreciation for a nice Dutch Oven.
I appreaciate a Dutch Oven, I find they're quite nice for making a stew and roasting a chicken . . .
(I get what you're saying Keyser, I have the "Fart-O-Tron" saved to my favorites on my computer when I'm in a silly mode and feel like laughing)

JW Witnessing Trolleys. To approach or ignore what is your preference and why?
by KateWild ini saw two brothers this morning next to the main train station in liverpool city centre this morning.
they were not actively approaching anyone.
what i found strange was that they were from a cong that has different territory, so i don't know why they were there.. anyway i knew them both, and they know i was df'd, i was in my car and couldn't park up for a chat, but i did beep and wave to them as i drove passed and they waved back.

Sometimes I like to approach and ask them questions about and quote some of the stuff from their publications from more than 10 years ago, I like to hear what some of them say, which is usually quite idiotic and I leave wondering if they really buy in to the bull crap in their hearts but are just putting on a show

Yes, I see you shunning me!
by Blackbird Fly ineven tho i grew up in the org, so much that once seemed normal behavior now seems so bizarre and even cruel.
i have run into at least 3 people from our old cong since the memorial (i didnt attend) anyhow i have noticed how each time they go out of their way to say hello and flash me a big bright smile, only to immediately avert their eyes and end any possible commitment to a conversation.
i dont really care as i dont have anything to say to them anyhow.

If it were a salon owned by some one else she could've been reported for that.

what to do when you have a crazy friend?
by losingit init's hard for me to start this topic bc i feel like i'm being judgmental, a quality i don't like in others and one i try to stay away from as much as possible.
i really do try to be an understanding, caring person.
i essentially believe that all people are good and i am shocked to my core when i am betrayed.

Whatever kind of lifestyle your friend is living, the issue is how often do they burden you with details. If you have to listen to the details of the relationship. Everybody has a story from some folks have to realize that, and decipher which folks live off the drama of their stories and which folks you just don't blab everything to.
Ever since I was teenager when you really get into the boy-girl relationship, it even bugged the Hell out of me then to listen to, " Bob says he likes me but I don't know if I like him, Jim asked me out but if I go I wonder if Bob will find out, or maybe his sister will tell him and. . . ", never could stand that !
