due to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?
About 16 yrs ago when I was an elder, a mother of a 3 yr old accused her husband of molesting their own daughter. Both active JW. I remember being perplexed as to what to do. The testimony of the mother was convincing. The denial of the father was convincing. Our hands were tied because there were not 2 witnesses. She had the courage to pursue the matter legally. The court required supervised visits with the father. She kicked him out of the house. Looking back I am so happy she had the balls (pardon the Fench) to do the right thing. She turned out to be the sweetest girl on the planet and recently got married. Bottom line: no congregational was taken.

hello, i've been lurking for a few months now.
like many others here i've been through quite a bit lately, and what i've learned (thanks to jwd) is very eye opening to say the least.
will write my story when i have time.
Hi Jibberish. Thanks for sharing your story and welcome to the board. I am going to PM you because your experience may help me relate to my own daughter.

being raised as a jw is a double edged sword.
on one hand, you get a phenominal boot-camp education on the bible, what it means, how to use it in your life (even long after leaving the society).
on the other hand, it makes looking for a new home-church a bit of a challenge.
It seems to me the key question is: Are the people you are going to associate with, whether socially or in worship, living the Sermon on the Mount? In other words, Is there Christian fruitage? "By THIS all will know you are my disciples..."
As far as doctrine is concerned, I have found it's important to be open to the idea that what I was taught as a JW may not best represent what the Scriptures teach anyway. For example, IMO the Scriptures show that Jesus is not Jehovah but is far more than a created angel. Since no human or group is ever going to get it 100% right isn't it more important to recognize the genuine love for God and neighbor in our fellow Christian?

WOW! I couldn't sleep and popped on here and what a great story Missanna. Thank you sharing. I love the freedom we have here to speak from our hearts and you certainly do that. I wish I had more people IRL to do that with. Best wishes Skeptic1914

in his book kingdom of god, john bright writes the following:.
although the new testament teaches us that the people of christs kingdom are his obedient followers, his church, there is never the slightest hint that the visibly existing church can either be or produce that kingdom.. there is no tendency in the new testament to identify the visible church with the kingdom of god.. the church that makes such an identification will soon begin to invite god to endorse its own very human policies and practices, will equate the people of god with those nice people who share its particular beliefs and participate in its services, and will reckon the advance of the kingdom in terms of its numerical growth.
but it will not be the new testament church!.
The church that makes such an identification will soon begin to invite God to endorse its own very human policies and practices, will equate the people of God with those nice people who share its particular beliefs and participate in its services, and will reckon the advance of the Kingdom in terms of its numerical growth.
Interesting stuff DM. Thanks for sharing.

My cong's CA was this past weekend too. You don't go to Queens, NY Assy Hall by any chance? Actually I wasn't there either because my Mom had just died. Actually the reason I've been going to ANY meetings for past couple of years has been so as not to complicate matters with my Mom in ill health (she was a wdow, living alone and I am the only living child). It has paid off because now that she has died all the [conditional] "friends" have been able to interact with me because I'm not OFFICIALLY out of the org. So you need to consider the consequences of a mtg w/CO & DO. At this point I would LOVE to meet with them. Skeptic1914
long story short: my daugher was df'd about 7-8 yrs ago.
bitter and resentful toward me, abusive jw ex-husb and the elders that didn't want to listen to her side.
saw her briefly at my younger daughter's wedding in 2003.. my mom died last week.
Given that you and your wife are out of the organization
An assumption my dear Jim. My wife still claims to believe its the "truth" but has been inactive for over a year. I have been inactive for over 3 yrs and the elders know I'm not buying the "Brooklyn" Bridge. So far they have tolerated me. We have been going to most Sunday meetings. So we are not OUT....yet.
