Turning a the Memorial into an Apostafest
by MsMcDucket injust going to see all the faders and disfellowshipped (or otherwise) that the families have dragged in, so you could plan a meet up?
you could tell who they are because no one would be talking to them..

A very naughty pal once suggested dressing in outrageous outfits (her in leather, me in my gypsy skirts and shawls) and go to Memorial and chug the wine and complain about the bread.
We refrained from doing so. Couldn't help speculating on the reaction though...

What's your culinary specialty?
by pmouse inreading hortensia's topic "menu" made my mouth water.
i remember in the 70's (when we used to be able to have lots of jw social get-togethers like picnics and parties) some of the friends would bring pot-luck specialties that were to die for!.
everyone has a dish they consider their "specialty" which gets high praise and generally requests for the recipe.

I know why so many men like tuna casserole. Think about it. It has tuna and mushroom soup... what does that smell like? Hot sex! it's comfort food because it's a familiar smell...
Last night I had no cream soup so I made a cream sauce instead, and the boys called it 'lesbian tuna casserole'. When I don't have noodles, I use boxed mac&cheese.
2 boxes mac&cheese
2 cans tuna, drained
I can cream of chicken or mushroom soup
I 1/2cup milk
1/2cup butter or marg.
2 cups frozen peas
1/2 teaspoon cayeene pepper
Cook mac just to hard al dente, put peas in colander, drain mac over peas to thaw them. (I cook this in an oven-proof pot; one pot to clean.) Add cheese sauce packets, milk, spread, and soup to pot, stir to mix, add mac and peas and tuna, season with cayenne and whatever you like. No salt! This is salt overload from the fish and mac sauce. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Bake 375 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Super simple and older kids can make this for themselves. My kids like crushed potato chips on top.
I've used garlic mushroom soup for this. We like cream of chicken soup better than mushroom. Use plain egg noodles if you don't like cheesy tuna.
Cheap food is my specialty...
any bread bakers here?

I spend most of my time listening here. When I need a change I whip out the jazz cds or some old hippiedippy stuff from my past. Tull, Traffic, Hendrix...old blues guitar tunes or maybe some newer ones. Mostly I am happy with the folk coz they play celtic, world music, all sorts of cool stuff. My canary grooves to folk alley, he started singing again after over 2 years of birdie silence on the second day I left folk alley playing all day. He seems to like banjo and mandolin and girl harmonies.

How did you dispose of your JW books? (Or did you?)
by exwitless inlittle drummer boy and i have a small house and we do not have room for the wasted space all of these books are creating.
here's a brief rundown of what we have:.
several nwt hardcover bibles, chinese bibles (lots of chinese students in our town), insight on the scriptures, concordances, a few bound volumes, song books, km books, reasoning books, the entire bible on audio tape, and more.

Most of my books were tossed when I moved long-distance. I did keep a large size NWT, which I took great delight in tearing to tiny tiny bits during my 'discovery phase' of cult recovery. I still have my 1980 Aid book, the one they hate to have people see because Ray Franz worked on it. Anyone wanting that book, let me know. For sale really really cheap.

This is what my oldest son always wants when we get together. Too too simple, adaptable too. Tater Tot Casserole 2 lb very lean ground beef(if you hacve to use cheap ground meat, brown and drain first) 2 cans of green beans I can mushroom soup 2 cups sharp cheese, shredded I package tater tots Pat the meat into a 9x13 Pyrex dish, season as you like. Drain the veg and scatter over the meat. Spoon soup over all, top with cheese, and arrange tots over the top. Cover with foil and bake about 45 minutes at 375 degrees F. Remove foil, bake another 15 minutes or so. Cool ten minutes before cutting. You can use any veg, canned, frozen, or blanched fresh, and any soup you like. My son sometimes makes it with canned chili, corn, and a can of black beans. Mmmm. Now, tuna casserole... love it or hate it?

I am still trying to pay off bills my ex left when he did his rapid exit from our lives. Unbeknownst to me, while I was lost in my struggle with pain and its effects, he was busy accumulating enough debt to choke me speechless when it came time to try to sort out his messes. Joint account left overdrawn, bounced checks all over town, payroll advance loans and loans from friends and family all unpaid, a student loan disbursement used to leave the state instead of for tuition... I am still feeling the effects of his debting, redirecting the debtors calling about debt he has incurred since he left, arranging to pay of what I can on things he accumulated during the marriage. It's a mess.
However, for the first time in years my household bills are all paid on time and I am chipping at the past bills. Grateful as hell to SSI and ADC for supporting us, grateful twice over for a cheap (albeit fleabag) rental and for a brother who shares rent. Life is simpler now and I look forward to simplifying even more as I pay off the past due crap and am able to forget about that aspect of the marriage's failure.
Having two major surgeries has improved and simplified my life too. It was so worth the pain and inconvenience to have the hips replaced. It's much easier to think rationally when you aren't feeling bones grind with every movement.
Slowly, slowly, I am shedding past encumbrances, fears, pains, disappointments, and pointless debting. Simplicity is my goal. I'm not there yet, but then isn't there a cliche about success being a journey not a destination?
some say I've been simple all along...

Do you still believe that you have a chance of living eternally?
by JH inor, is it completely out of the question, and you know for sure that this life is it, and there is nothing else after.. maybe you believe that there is a possibility of eternal life, but you don't qualify..

There is an excellent tune by a folkie named Iris DeMent which speaks my feelings on the subject with simple eloquence. Here is the lyric:
Let the Mystery Be
Everybody's wonderin' what and where they they all came from
everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
when the whole thing's done
but no one knows for certain
and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say once you're gone you're gone forever
and some say you're gonna come back
Some say you rest in the arms of the Saviour
if in sinful ways you lack
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden
bunch of carrots and little sweet peas
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Everybody's wonderin' what and where they they all came from
everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
when the whole thing's done
but no one knows for certain
and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory
and I ain't saying it ain't a fact
but I've heard that I'm on the road to purgatory
and I don't like the sound of that
I believe in love and I live my life accordingly
but I choose to let the mystery be
Everybody is wondering what and where they they all came from
everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
when the whole thing's done
but no one knows for certain
and so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
I think I'll just let the mystery be -

Be forewarned: people can change! I'm not MD any more, she died a rather spectacular virtual death, but I am still alive and hoping to reconnect with the real world outside my four walls, if only virtually. Especially hoping to find Ginny Tosken, that little minxie...
Much love and goodwill to all ex-JWs as they work toward total freedom from cult bondage.
Love,
LynnA (scarred warhorse, retired)
